So is Nader and the Clippers pick a good enough offer for Evans?
Maybe Yabu instead of Nader?
I could care less about that Clippers pick, who knows if it actually turns into a first round pick.

I would think the Grizz want a pick this year, so Nader and our first this year. That's is if Danny even offers a first, maybe Yabu and a second round pick. Something like that I would guess if the reports are true and they really want Evans. He will help, but is Evans really worth a first round pick ? I love how he drives to the basket, he plays good D, but I worry his 3 point shooting goes down. Playing a whole season he has never been above 33.8%. He also has had trouble staying healthy the last few years.
If Monroe is our big, wouldn't Williams be the better player? If you wanted to trade that Clipper pick, why not trade it back to the Clippers for Williams? His instant offense works well in a bench role, we know this. That's what I would do.

To trade for Evans with players the Celtics need to give up 2 of the following to make salaries work:
Nader Yabu Larkin Semi Theis Rozier
In my opinion, the last 3 should be off the table (Theis, Semi and Rozier). I could get behind any 2 of the other 3 plus a second. I can stomach our first but I’d try to get Yabu to be the first in the deal. We have no cap space so to sign a second round pick we have to use exception money but a First is a designated slot. Evans is a strict rental as he comes with no bird rights. Adding Evans and Monroe to the second unit would be pretty interesting though.
Smart Rozier Evans Morris Monroe
That’s not bad. Maybe Monroe would want to stick around here longer term too - can’t see him getting much money these days.

Per ESPN trade machine you can do Yabu straight up for Evans or Larkin and Nader. Those seem like the two most likely options.

If I'm the Celtics, I'm looking for more size personally. Morris just can't be relied on this year. Evans can play the wing or guard. It'd be hard to fit all of Rozier, Smart, and Williams on the same floor with the lack of size out there. Evans is just a better fit, plus Stevens loves those versatile guys.

When you have Smart and Rozier I just don't see the issue, heck Smart has played a bunch of Small Forward. We ran out Thomas, Bradley and Smart all last season. Lou Williams is a proven scorer, a game changer. Maybe Evans has turned a corner, or maybe it's just a great half season. If his shooting goes back to his career norms he would be a horrible fit. Yes his D would fit right in, he has great size. Thing is Smart and Rozier are very good defenders, you don't need another defensive guard. It all really comes down to Evans shooting and that is an unknown. Morris hasn't impressed me, he doesn't seem 100% in my opinion.

I can see filler and a late first or Yabu and like a future second, I can't see both. Nor do I think Danny would go that high, he just doesn't give away many assets. He's a rental, with no bird rights, having a career year, that could be flukish. I get the interest, but on Danny terms. I think a young player with upside like Yabu is a heck of a return for a guy like Evens. I would pay more for Williams, you get his bird rights. You can go over cap to resign him or work out a sign and trade to get something back.

The Clippers have a really good chance of being bad and that pick turning into a second round pick. Danny is the best at getting deals done, he's the best in the league period imo. I'm positive he gets another scoring option off the bench at the right price.

The Celtics like guys who can handle being switched defensively, Williams would be a liability defensively and teams would go to him and find the mismatch on him and target him. I personally see the Celtics preferring Evans, because of the versatility offensively and defensively. That's a Brad Stevens kind of player. I wouldn't care if the Celtics ended up with either one though. They need to get another scoring option, no matter who it is at the deadline. This team has a legitimate chance at the finals with the Cavs stumbling lately. Morris reportedly showed up out of shape at the start of the year and then had knee issues. Both could be related, but who knows. He's unreliable because he can't be relied on to play games at this point. I really like his game, but his durability issues are killing the bench.

The Pelicans might be serious contenders for Monroe. He is from Louisiana and they might offer him more minutes than the Celtics can.
I'm hoping that the money and the better chance to win outweighs all that other stuff out with Monroe. He's probably going to be the best buyout option the Celtics will have a chance to grab this year that fits their needs.

I’m not sure Williams or Evans really moves the needle all that much. It gives them a better chance of getting out of the East, but not by a significant amount, and they’d still be big underdogs against whoever comes out of the West. If the cost is spare parts (Yabu, Nader, second rounders), that’s fine, but I doubt that’s enough and I’d hesitate to give up a first-round pick for a rental that doesn’t materially improve their championship odds.

This years team is a lot better and deeper. Players like Tatum, Brown, Thies and Rozier have helped our D. We have the best D in the NBA, but struggle to score. We really struggle to score, can't say that enough, we struggle to score.
So we need to add more defensive players? Williams is clearly the better scorer and while not good defensively, he's not Thomas either. I think he can improve with us, just like Irving did. If Evans new found 3 point shot disappears he won't be much of an upgrade. Heck I really wonder how he performs in limited minutes as a scorer. He won't get anywhere near 30 minutes from us. I wouldn't mind getting him if the price was fairly low, but your throwing around packages that are fairly big. Look at the Bulls and Pelican trade, mid first round pick for Mirotic, a guy I see as having more value than Evans, he's not a rental with no bird rights. Thing is to get that pick they had to take on Asik and his horrible contract. 11.2 million next year, 3 million buyout in 2019. Just getting rid of that contract is worth a late first round pick. There is some upside in that pick, but Mirotic on paper looks to be the perfect fit next to Davis. That is if Davis will play center, which for some reason he hates.
I'm not totally against Evans, he's just not a perfect fit in my opinion. Not a guy that I trade Yabu and a first for. Heck the media has been throwing around Rozier name. I don't worry though, Danny is smart and won't be stupid. If I had to guess his offer is Nader, Larkin and a 2nd round pick. Grizz will jump at the first 1st round pick they get offered, so as of now I don't think anyone has offered one. I can see Danny maybe upping his offer, maybe Yabu or maybe a late first, but I don't see both. I know some are high on Yabu, but he still looks overweight and I really wonder about him. Doesn't help that we haven't hardly see him play. Even when Horford is out, he doesn't play, Semi does. So I wouldn't mind trading him, but what do I know. I would have traded Rozier last year and then he broke out.
A lot comes down to Monroe. Which this is awesome that we will know before the deadline. If we can't get him, we need a big more than a guard. I'd trade Yabu and a first for Randle is 3 seconds. He's a young player on the rise, he fits our timeline better, has bird rights and is a restricted free agent next year. For me this is by far and away the best option if you are trading a bunch of assets.

Just a thought— LeBron is looking for a team with stable ownership, a good coach, and a strong and young supporting cast. Bonus points if it’s in the East. The two teams that come to mind are Philadelphia and... Boston.
They’d have to move one of Irving, Horford or Hayward, none of which is ideal for a variety of issues, but it’s not impossible, and you can bet Danny has thought about it. A sign (or opt-in)-and-trade for Hayward would be the easiest move from an on-court perspective, but it’d be legitimately cruel for Gordon and Kyrie wouldn’t be thrilled about it, either. Swapping Hayward for Kyrie creates salary-matching issues, but I think that’s what I’d lean towards. Horford works as well but it’d leave a big hole at C/PF.

You don't think Williams moves the needle much? The guys a proven bench scorer that can just light it up. For me Williams and Randle are the only two guys that do move the needle if you look at Golden State. Two guys that can really score. Golden State loves small ball, you can play 3 guards against them or Randle at center. Not saying those guys make us the better team, but with our D they give us a fighting chance.

Williams is a good offensive player, but a really bad defensive player. You can’t play him alongside Kyrie, and part of the reason they’ve been so good defensively is that they don’t have any bad defensive players other than Kyrie. He’s also not a great fit for the system— has never been a good off-ball player, for instance. Despite being a good volume scorer this year, his efficiency isn’t great (he does get to the line a lot, which is nice) and is propped up by an unsustainably high 3P%. He’d be an upgrade, but not a material one.

HELL YEAH, that's a very good signing. Monroe is a very skilled player and although he obviously can't play in every single line-up, I have no doubt President Stevens will use him well. I'm very, very happy about this as I thought the team needed a legit big and Monroe is better than Baynes and readier than Theis.
Now go get Evans (for cheap) and just overpower teams with size.

Any suggestion that Evans is not a good shooter is a bit misleading. Yes his career 3 pt % is at 31 but as the league has evolved, he has gotten better. In 3 of the past 5 years he has been 39% or better and his carrier shooting % is 47% from 2 and 44.5 overall. Not too shabby......Oh yeah...and he's 6'6". He is also 28 and prime.

I didn’t realize the Celtics could break up the DPA money. So they used 5m on Monroe which leaves them just enough to absorb Evans. If they use it on Evans then no players can go from the Celtics which means they’d just send a pick; likely their first this year.
