Reports coming out that Brady hasn't committed to play next year. I could care less if he misses workouts, but really there's a chance he won't play next year? After forcing us to trade Jimmy? When he made his power play, I was OK with it, given he at minimum played out his contract and we got two more years. If he walks away now, I'll never look at him the same way.
I guess this helps explain the Gronk talk that he'll only play with Brady. It seemed like a crazy statement, but obviously Gronk knew more than us.
The draft just got a lot more interesting, not in a good way.

The Patriots should draft a QB and sign Manziel however.

Most likely he does, but I'm not sure it's a lock. If it was he would say so. You don't want to go into the draft not knowing. One thing to draft a guy for a few years down the road. It's another thing when you might need him this year. I think it's like 15 things. I think the reports of problems were right on, worse than we wanted to believe. Now Gronk is so so, Solder is gone, Cooks is gone, Amendola is gone, Lewis is gone, and we all know his wife wants him to stop playing. The whole Jimmy thing, the whole Brady trainer thing, it's not good.

This is why you don’t make any player no matter who they are as bigger than the team. They had Jimmy and felt he was the guy and they should have chosen him over the 41 year old. Montana and Manning both played for other teams.

Montana and Manning both played for other teams. Exactly. NE has a history of trading players a year or two early... before their value is zilch. If JG knew he'd become the starter and if (it's a BIG if) JG would accept NE's offer, then I'd have traded Brady in a heartbeat. As we so often hear, it's a business. Not much room for loyalty. Sad, but it's the reality.

They are going to be without Brady regardless within 2-3 years. It’s not about how important he has been to their success. Also, don’t be surprised if you see a noticeable dip in Brady’s play now that Jimmy is gone. He got better each year once it was clear that Jimmy was legit a threat to replace him. That wasn’t a coincidence, now the second he’s gone this crap starts.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of the Adam Schefter article. It's two "league sources" who said that they think that Brady will play next year but can't be sure. Maybe there's more to it that Schefter can't explicitly reference, but if that's all there is, not sure that's really much of a story. I mean, what does it even mean to "commit to playing" anyways? Brady has missed the offseason program in many years past and Schefter later reported that Brady's absence is not related to Gronkowski's absence. It's not the case that ownership or the coaching staff asked him to commit and he refused (if it was, that would be the lead of the article).

Who really thinks that Brady would be risking his legacy by acting like a baby? I give it a ZERO POINT ZERO chance of happening. When he retires, it will be planned and it will be celebrated.

Brady hasn't missed OTAs in eight years and has never missed all of them in his career. He did miss part of them from 2008 to 2010. So this isn't even close to normal for him.
Add what Rip pointed out, Brady isn't acting like he did last off-season. The I'm playing to 45 stuff is gone, replaced by reports he's not committed for next year. He's missing OTAs to spend time with family and his personal trainer. If it was just his family ok, but his trainer, the guy Bill just kicked out of the team facilities middle of last year. The same guy Bill ripped Gronk for seeing over the team doctors. There is nothing normal about any of this.
I also don't think Brady ever does a farewell tour like Ortiz did. That would really shock me. It's going to come after the season, not before.
Montana and Manning had very serious injuries. There teams didn't move on when they were playing at MVP levels. The Packers did with Farve. I don't blame the Patriots, one or two extra years of Brady could give you a better chance at another tittle over a decade of Jimmy.

2008-2010 only 3 year stretch where Brady didn’t make a Super Bowl. Of course 2008 he blew out his knee.

Adam Schefter has not yet reported this but I have it on good authority that Dan Marino has NOT informed the Dolphins that he will not be un-retiring this year. League sources wonder if this could mean Dan is planning a comeback. The same league sources note that the Dolphins could easily move on from their current QB. No one close to Dan Marino has yet spoken for the record. In other news, Dak Prescott has not told Jerry Jones he plans to play QB for the Dallas Cowboys this year. Some league observers wonder how he feels about the Cowboys severing ties with his best receiver this off season. These same league observers expect Dak will be a keen observer of the 2018 NFL Draft. "If they don't get him a receiver or two ... ho boy," said one informed observer. Stay tuned.

Brady has to understand that New England needs to get better on defense if they are going to win a 6th or 7th super bowl. 505 yards in the super bowl with not a single punt should be enough to win the damn thing. The Patriots didn't lose the super bowl because Malcolm Butler didn't play. They lost the super bowl because their front seven couldn't get to the quarterback, couldnt stop a running back, and didn't have the athleticism to defend rpos. I know that the Eagles Receivers had almost 200 yards receiving, but when was Foles ever pressured?
New England became out of balanced these past few years. Wouldn't be surprised at all if three of the first four New England picks are used on defense.

The Patriots currently have over 14 million in cap space. Going by Mike Reiss you'll need 4-5 million to sign the draft picks, less if they trade down. You then have Allen who is the 7th highest paid player on the team at 5 million, which is about 4 million more than he deserves. Then like another 5 million in Patterson and Britt, which is crazy given what Matthews just signed for. You've got a bunch of good free agents and we aren't filling holes. You could dump Allen and sign Mercedes Lewis and save likely 3 million while upgrading. Heck Julius Thomas would be an upgrade over Allen and he won't cost much at all. You now have Niklas a very good blocking TE. Maybe they are waiting till after the draft, but that's when all teams know what holes they need to fill. Competition for those guys will increase. nfltraderumors.co/top-2018-nfl-free-agents-list/Cutting Allen and using that 5 million to sign Dez Bryant seems to make a ton of sense if you wanted to make Brady happy. Always wanted to see what Brady could do with a WR like Bryant. You want Brady happy, we need him happy.

I just don't agree, not in the role he would serve on this team. I wouldn't want to pay big money or a high draft choice on a guy like Bryant to be the #1 WR for Brady. Bryant was elite with Romo and isn't with Dak, which isn't really a surprise. Brady would certainly love adding a weapon like Bryant. Even just looking at Bryant as another end zone target and deep threat is a massive upgrade. www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-is-dez-bryant-still-a-no-1-wr

If he cost a million dollars and didn't cost draft capital I'd be fine with him. I just find it funny your high on Patterson and want no part of Bryant. Patterson has been a worse route runner and WR than Bryant by a massive margin. I think he can be good on some trick plays and special teams, but the cost is very high for that. Given how very few kicks are actually returned in todays NFL.

If Dez only cost a few million bucks then it would be different, but he’s not coming here. Also, I’ve never stated to be high on Patterson, but I think he’s supremely talented athletically and am interested to see him. I believe there’s upside there. Britt also has upside.

Gronk is starting to wear thin on me. I don’t want him to be traded but I’m at the point that if they traded him for a first and other picks I would understand

This whole offseason has been one in which you can't help but feel that the players are tired of the grind in NE. Probably goes back to the SB and Butler not playing. One big soap opera from the media but the players have fed the beast more than we are accustomed to.

Anyone willing to go on record with a guess on how the Pats draft goes?
Here's my guess: 1. Patriots trade up into the pre-teens for a QB (23 and 31) (Jackson or falling Rosen). 2. Patriots get a defensive "steal" at 43 and trade down from 63. (3rd and a 4th) 3. Patriots trade for a player with pick 198 (swap into the 7th) 4. They don't pick an OT until late and everyone freaks
What I'd rather they do is keep their top 3 picks (fat chance) and get three of the following: a defensive stud, an OT, a tight end and a 2nd tier QB (Rudolph or Lauletta), and have them actually be smarter than everyone else with the QB (a Garoppolo not a Mallett). I like the idea of Jackson, Mayfield or Rosen but think the team isn't deep enough where it should pay up for one of them.
I also hope they get an RB in the middle rounds.
Hoping Allen/Barkley go 1/2. I think that sets up the Pats better later in the draft.
