X comes through and I was kind of getting concerned about him as well as Hanley.

I might consider walking Devers and then pitching underhanded to Nunez/Bradley/Vasquez. Devers might not make contact, but if he does it'd be a 3 run game.

Sweet! Come on - need to reward this great start by Price, and, if we’re really lucky, those Rangers of Texas.

Way to make that walk and wild pitch hurt, Nunez

If we somehow get this runner in, I'd be comfortable with Hembree doing the 9th.

Can we talk about Joe Kelly? I mean, Barnes pitched well tonight and he’s been generally quite good. But Kelly has been absolutely outstanding. Take out his first appearance and he’s given up ONE RUN and only five walks in 21.2 innings. Seriously. Take a moment to appreciate that. AND, look no further than today to see the new Kelly (whose peripherals match his results)...9 pitches, 7 strikes, three big outs. He deserves this W.

Cora is falling into Farrel's terrible habits. Hate to say it. Kimbrel has no business being in this game.

Kimbrel’s third pitch to the first batter has been called a strike more than once tonight. In the bottom of the 9th ?...No so much.

He's made for relief.

He's made for relief. I think Cora should’ve left him in, but I get bringing in Kimbrel after a rough outing. Really, Kelly’s just finally found some command. He’s getting guys to miss on pitcher’s pitches. And, he’s using all four pitches and not solely relying on the FB. A reliever with four useful pitches is exceptionally rare. They need to extend him ASAP. It’ll help with Kimbrel negotiations, and he deserves it. He’s earned it. He’s quietly become one of the best relievers in baseball...and he gets lots of grounders, has cut the walks, and **rarely** gives up the long ball. A few more Ks and he’d be the ideal fireman. And even that isn’t really necessary. He’s a huge rally-killer.

Btw, a quick look at the last three pitchers for the Sox tonight should end 90% of bullpen griping. Yeah, a quality lefty would help (Beeks), or a Thornburg return to dominance, but a quick perusal of fg pages for Barnes-Kelly-Kimbrel should make you feel very good.

Yeap, I'd argue that Kelly's worst pitch is his fastball at 98 mph. I like his off-speed way more than the fastball, but it all plays better in relief. It's just so confusing to me that the Sox took this long to keep him there the past 2 years.
