Swihart still isn't getting that many plate appearances either, regardless of the Hanley DFA. This is the fifth game post-Ramirez and he's started two of them. That's progress. He wasn't going to go from not playing ever to becoming a full-time starter just because Hanley's gone. Yeah getting better. Would like to see Swihart try out RF in Fenway at some point, especially when Mookie is out.

Holt was also getting in some reps with him. Maybe it means something or it might just be completely routine.

Not that I recommend being without Betts in the lineup going forward, so far we are doing alright.

I’m not a Hanley hater at all, but Mitch Moreland is doing everything to make Cora and Dombrowski look like geniuses.

Jeez, Dave O'Brien putting Remy on the spot asking about how much the pay is for players making appearances in the legends suites. (they were talking about Fred Lynn) Total d*** move by him. That's the kind of stuff that gets someone fired.

Xander was just looking at a tablet device before going out to the on deck circle. I’m very curious as to what kind of information he would be getting. Would he be looking at video of his previous plate appearance, or just getting statistical data like what pitches the guy likes to throw in particular counts?
Anybody got an educated thought on this?

Porcello. I really love seven pitch innings.

I think it is statistical data on the new pitcher coming in. I've noticed it a few times before and it was always when a new pitcher is coming into the game. During one game, JBJ, another player and Tim Hyers were looking at it prior as the new reliever was signaled to come into the game. Just my guess.

I didn't even think tablets were allowed in the dugout. He was probably checking out the pitcher numbers because it was a new one.

Baseball is so weird sometimes. Two runs score on a ball fielded cleanly by the second baseman.

Hopefully, that bases loaded one-out double play in the 6th doesn't come back to haunt the Sox.

What a swing of events. From up 4 with the bases loaded 1 out to the other team having the bases loaded 1 out with the (still) tying run to the plate. Either way, great job by the "fire guy" and I'd say a good start from Porcello, even though the box score won't reflect it.

Fighting Joe Kelly is easily one of my favorite players on this team. He’s on any short list of players with whom I would really like to have a pitcher of beer.

Extend Joe Kelly! He's a cheaper version of future Kimbrel.

JDM is literally hitting like Miguel Cabrera in his prime. I'd have to say he has been the most initially successful free agent signing in Red Sox history.

Hopefully that shot by Leon keeps Barnes and Kimbrel out of the game.
