And one more thing I can’t resist because I’m so excited about it: Benintendi is heating up in a big way. He’s flirting with .300/.400/.500, and his SLG is boosted by a bunch of doubles and triples, which is nice to see. I’ll take .300 with 40 doubles, 15 triples, and only 20-25 HR any day over .275/25/2/35 any day. Mostly for aesthetics (cuz TTO bores me), but more because it suggests to me that the hit tool development is showing up. With 8 SB/0 CS, he’s looking like he’s on the verge of becoming the above-average-across-the-board player we’d hoped. His further ascendancy adds a very dangerous element to this offense. .244 / .331 / .390 (142 PA) through May 8 .377 / .458 / .754 (83 PA) since
He's now in the top 30 for wRC+ among qualifiers, with 139. And look at this WPA leaderboard: 2.60 Mookie Betts 2.30 Andrew Benintendi 1.80 Travis Shaw 1.77 Jed Lowrie 1.68 Jean Segura 1.62 Asdrubal Cabrera 1.60 J.D. Martinez 1.57 Mike Trout
There's now a bigger gap between 2 and 3 than 1 and 2. Both are huge. And what do the first four guys have in common?
If you look at WPA / PA, Mitch Moreland's going to be top 15 or so.
Drifting off-topic a bit, I'm confident that Xander will be a force sooner than later. The biggest X factor that could make this a top-to-bottom scary lineup is Devers.
Obviously, I don’t see Beni making any sort of MVP run this year, because of Mookie and Trout. But he’s making a push for top-10 in the AL in hitter WAR right now. And I think he’s got one in him coming up. Maybe not a winner, but a top-3 type finish in the next 3-4 years. I love his approach, and his swing is about as pretty a lefty swing as I’ve seen in a long time. I think one of these years he and Mookie are going to duke it out for a batting title, and a legit one...over .350. I think Bogey was hurt by the injury when he was scorching hot, but he’s still hitting for power and I agree that he’s bound to have another carry-the-team type stretch before August rolls around. And absolutely...Devers has had an extended struggle but not at all something unexpected in his first full season. He’s at least kept hitting for pop. He’s another guy who’s eminently capable of an extended scorching stretch (a las his arrival) where he’s a real difference-maker. Given his up-the-middle approach and historical BABIPs, I think he’s due for some positive regression back towards the .320-.330 range. He’s at only .281, which isn’t awful, but is certainly well below where he was last year and for the vast majority of his time in the minors. AND, it could be totally illusory but what if Sandy Leon is doing his stupid-good hot stretch thing again? He’s super streaky, but we know he has those in him. He was just awfully ice cold, but he’s been the polar opposite the past week or so. We could be on the verge of the sort of hitting stretch that characterized their hot start, except instead of Bogey-Mookie-Moreland-JDM (took him a little bit to heat up), it’s Beni-Bogey-Leon-(dare I say it?)-JBJ. FWIW I thought pre-season that they’d lead MLB in doubles and had an outside shot at 220 HR, and probably finish top-3 in RS. And this offense, even with the bitter cold 7-8-9 sure looks on pace to make that look a little conservative.

The MFY were unbelievably lucky too: Gardner homer has a 31% chance probability, stanton hitting an infield single, a zild pitch hitting the backstop and getting back right at Sanchez to throw Kemp out at 3rd...Black magic man! Hopefully, their luck runs out in the second half because they just won again. They also made five errors and a few wild pitches. Here's hoping for things to even out and they get beat in different stupid ways in the 2nd half causing pain and sorrow to their fanbase in MLB office.

I’m not a Hanley hater at all, but Mitch Moreland is doing everything to make Cora and Dombrowski look like geniuses. Was that a fantastic under-the-radar (or, more, panned-for-being-above-the-radar-but-unimpressive) signing or what? He’s easily already earned his salary, and by making Hanley (sorry big fella, I really do like ya as a person, just not as a player) expendable and preventing his option vesting, it’s a boon for next year, too.

Jeez, Dave O'Brien putting Remy on the spot asking about how much the pay is for players making appearances in the legends suites. (they were talking about Fred Lynn) Total d*** move by him. That's the kind of stuff that gets someone fired. Dave needs to stop trying to yuck it up the way Jerry and Don did. That partnership was effortless. This one is so contrived. Remdog is a very funny curmudgeon with insight. Dave is a golden voiced, RBI obsessed control guy who keeps getting his facts wrong. Even today's schtik about Fenway memories as kids was forced. It could have been good, as Remy nailed it with the seat banging and net noises. It's time for Dave to focus on the game, stop trying to replicate the joy of Orsillo, maybe learn the players and some stats. And boy was he off base about the Legends Suite; demeaning for everyone.

Extend Joe Kelly! He's a cheaper version of future Kimbrel.I'm trying to parse this statement in my head, but can't. So I'll just toss out a generic "let's not get crazy here" hoping it applies and leave it at that.

Joe Kelly is exactly 12 days younger than Craig Kimbrel.

Can someone please explain to me why he is not playing Moreland today when Houston is starting a lefty tomorrow and we already are not playing Mookie, our starting second baseman, and the better hitting of our two catchers?
We need to win this game, especially since tomorrow's game with our starting pitcher is not looking good.

2 bullshit replay reversals. Joe Torre is wide awake at this time of day and isn't having any of the Sox being safe at any base.

Devers... I need you to get going bud That would be nice. . . . But, Bradley is going better and so are the catchers. Pedey will in a week or two, he just needs to get his timing down. Really so much more potential for this offense. And if Devers adjusts to the adjustments and gets back in a groove? Damn!

Really awesome & EFFICIENT start from Erod! Damn, this is incredible. We need more of this from Erod.
May bad. I'll ever comment on how well Sox pitchers are doing again.
C'mon Erod! You were there. Finish the damn thing off.

Joe Kelly is exactly 12 days younger than Craig Kimbrel. And it took him about 8 extra years to figure out how to pitch and isn't going to be approaching a 9 figure free agent deal. As of now, he's pitching even better than Kimbrel. I think Kelly would be a fine replacement for closer next season. I don't really have any interest in Kimbrel at what he's going to want. Kelly's track record should make it so he's far cheaper.

Please do not put Kimbrel in for the 3rd straight game when heading into Houston. Any other pitcher is about 99.7% sure to hold a 3 run lead.
