Price really has to show he is a big game pitcher. This is not how.

Pretty sure this start is not worth the $1m John Henry is paying David Price.
edit. The post game interview should have more than the usual sarcastic attitude.

Price is getting pounded. not a good sign. getting killed now. that is very poor. wow. he has got to pitch big when the time calls for it.

Feel bad for him, but somehow he has to find another gear against these guys. He has pitched well this year.

Both HRs on the two-seamer middle-middle.

He’s one of my least favorite players ever. I think he will opt out regardless of his market value. I think he made a mistake chasing the money in Boston and he knows it.

It looks like none of these games in this series are going to be high pressure/stress. It's either we won the game or lost the game in the first inning or so.

That's fine and I have no problem with that. But he is going to be here this year and we need him to pitch big in these games. He did well last year in the playoffs and he had a good year this year. Somehow the MFY just pound him.

now that wasn't a bad pitch, but Hicks was ready for it. He has to change his approach to this lineup. Pitch to the outer half and then bust him in. This is ridiculous.

Given the success of Price last year as a playoff reliever and the empirical fact that he simply has not performed well in the playoffs and especially against the Yanks, I wonder if the Sox brass (i.e., Cora) would be honest and strong enough to relegate him to the bullpen in the playoffs. It would be Sale, Erod and Porcello with hopefully Wright back by then.
Regardless, ESPN cannot be happy. 3 more hours of fill, fill, fill! Good luck with that!

It's reassuring to know that sabermetrics has shown that Price's 60.0% HR/FB in this game is just random variation.
My ex (who's also my roommate) will sit and watch parts of these big games. Rather than explain all the back story, I just told her "Price shouldn't come back to Boston after this."

The Red Sox definitely won the game they needed to win this series, but it is disconcerting to see Price pitch so poorly.
The Yankees can solve their problem rather easily by obtaining the starter they need and relegating Gray to the pen if they face the Sox.
The Red Sox answer isn't as easy. The best case scenario is that Wright comes back and can start. I'd take my chances with a reasonably healthy Wright and have Price in relief against the Yankees, like he pitched against Houston last year.
It's tough because there are spots where he needs to step up to get the press and fans off his back and Price can come up small. This is one of those night where he could have put a stop to the narrative and instead fed it.
This series is strange in that the bullpens won't likely factor into them. Probably a good thing for the Sox, but I think it would have shown that the Sox don't quite have the pen depth the Yankees do.
While I would have preferred 2 out of 3 I can live with taking 1 of 3 at the Toilet and still maintaining a share of 1st place.

Seen just now on WEEI site, Rob Bradford
"After the two innings, Price's ERA in Yankee Stadium stood at 10.40 ERA in five outings as a member of the Red Sox"
OUCH
Lugo, Crawford, Price - those former Rays really don't swim well in Boston

So - any bets on what Price will say about this one? Is a DL stint ahead? Will Cora give him cover, or call him out?
This is utter BS

it is one of two things. Either Price is the most unlucky SOB in big games, or he just doesn't have the guts to get it done.
Wait.....don't anyone answer that !!!

Luck evens out - as all here who see my posts know, I don't really believe in luck - just things evening out over time.
The truth - Price just sucks tonight. He simply doesn't have "it" consistently any longer. Not an ace, and falling further from the definition each year.

Goodnight, friend. I can't watch - listening over Roku - so blogging, working on a newsletter, petting my cats - letting the game fill in the background. Getting crapped on makes it easier to not pay attention!

Actually, he had a 50.0% HR/FB when I posted that (I had made the 60.0% calculation just before the last out), but after going 2 for 2 thereafter, he left the game at 62.5%.
The AL SA on FB this year is actually .633, but Price's 2.750 on the evening is somewhat higher.
For the first time since Opening Day, I scored every pitch of all three games ... until Price's exit. Now I've got better things to do.

Price won’t opt out. Could we deal him to a NL team if we eat 10m per year. New team gets him for 4/80. Not expecting anything in return
