Today would now be a good day for Joe Kelly to pitch. 8-0. Why not?

It was really easy to see on replay, but the ball was already loose so it didn't matter. And again, I doubt it's reviewable. But still, you're wrong about what you said about the runner. He is not allowed to swipe at the ball or the glove. He isn't. You're right, but he collided with the person tagging him first and again that one play would have been impossible to overturn even if it was reviewable. The only reason this has gone on for 10 posts is because you said he was allowed to collide with Xander while ignoring that we all said he can't swipe his hands at the glove.

Good job getting the runner on 3rd in with fewer than two outs.

The Sale trade was expensive, but it has been great to watch him pitch for the Sox

I'm thinking Workman/Kelly/Hembree the rest of the way unless one of Thornburg/Brasier/Velasquez can go back to back.

Why didn't Cora even bother to check to challenge then? Probably because no one saw it live. I also said it probably isn't reviewable.

Workman throws a fastball, it ends up 20 rows deep.

Workamn looked really good for a while when he came back up, but has seemed a bit shaky the last few weeks.

The only way Workman can even survive is to be perfect with command on that fastball and throw the offspeed more and more. Having a bad fastball is a negative.

Yeah, you've mentioned it for about 2 years now. Meanwhile, he's a lot better than what you imagine. It's a shame we don't have a Chris Sale type for every single pitcher on the roster.

Smoke and mirrors. Cora uses him correctly in mostly low leverage.

Bogaerts out, our best Tzu-Wei player in at SS.
Aftereffect of the "controversial" play, maybe?

To be fair to Kelly, a lot of these pitches are close, and some perhaps should have been called strikes.

2 walks and a line drive out. Joe Kelly will always be inconsistent. Unless he's absolutely on fire in September, I don't know how you trust him in October.

Just arrived at our Topsail Island rental, took a look at the score - Sox 9-1 after 8. Surely there can't be much to gripe about with that!
So the vacay starts out on a high note - off to the beach!

To be fair to Kelly, a lot of these pitches are close, and some perhaps should have been called strikes. And the first baserunner was an error, and there were two plays that were close to DPs. Wouldn't call it an encouraging appearance, but at least he got a scoreless inning in, in spite of some bad luck. Hopefully he can build on it.

Thornburg looked much better today. Hope the thing they found is fixed already.

Well, that was certainly encouraging from Thornburg. Great closing inning to a great game. Now on to Baltimore. A Machado-less Baltimore I might add.

Thornburg hits 95 on his first pitch going back-to-back days, sitting 94. Best he's looked with the Sox. If he's a guy they can get going, even as a 6th/7th inning guy, that would be huge
