A's and Astros are now tied in the west. Imagine a one game playoff Yanks/Astros.

David Price has been pitching like one of the best pitcher's in baseball when Leon started catching him. Leon has called for a lot more change ups behind the plate in Price's starts. I’m sure Leon has helped but I don’t think it’s Sandy on his own doing it. I recall a few weeks ago Price mentioning he watched some film with the pitching staff and he made some adjustments (throwing more change ups was one of them, changing where he sets up on the mound etc). I’d say the success over the last few starts is because of these adjustments, not necessarily who is catcher.

Now we are into a relatively drama-free, efficient game (short game!) mode. We are winning while our offense is relatively quiet - a really good thing - because the offense will wake up again soon.
Loving it.

NO need to walk the dog tonight, yay! I walked him. Nice to read about a really strong inning from Kimbrel.

NO need to walk the dog tonight, yay! I walked him. Nice to read about a really strong inning from Kimbrel. A strong inning with 11 pitches. It would be good for Kimbrel to focus on efficiency down the stretch. That will help keep HIM fresher. It is now about at the point where the Sox could be the Orioles for the rest of the season and they'd STILL win 100 games.

I don't think Kimbrel is a nibbler trying to pitch away from contact and hoping batters will chase. I think he goes through spells where he can't throw strikes. Particularly with his breaking ball. it's very similar to Joe Kelly. Kimbrel seems to do best when he is used often but not overused. The trouble comes when he has 25-30 pitch innings and then needs more time off. Hard for him to get on a roll when he keeps needing days off due to high pitch counts.

It had nothing to do with Leon, just ask him:

Lol, Price is obnoxious. I think it's mildly funny, but it makes him look childish. The media is going to have a field day with this. Price dug his own hole with that comment.

I think (hope) he's going to opt out even if he thinks he can't get a better contract.

I think (hope) he's going to opt out even if he thinks he can't get a better contract. I think so too. Obviously, I don’t know him or what his thoughts actually are, but he certainly seems like a guy that isn’t content. He’s a zillionaire and one wonders why a person in that position wouldn’t go find employment that is more enjoyable. Flip side is that you always here he is a great teammate, so he probably has genuinely close feelings for the people he works with, if not the city he works in. That is something he could replicate on another team. We we also don’t know how much value he places on winning, which this team seems likely to do a lot in 2019. In balance, it just seems like he’d rather pitch elsewhere.

David Price has been pitching well which is what ultimately matters.
I watch a lot of games and I like to think I'm rooting for more than just laundry. I listen to post-game shows, interviews, etc. It doesn't really tell you who the player really is as a person but you do get a glimpse of their personalities.
I usually enjoy those glimpses, but when it comes to Price, it's rather unenjoyable, probably the least enjoyable since listening to Lackey. I get that the media can be jackals at time, but there's a way to handle it that shows intelligence and class rather than being ornery and combative and dismissive.
Ah well, it's more important that he pitches like an ace than what he says or how he says it anyways. They need him to step up. It's awesome that he's stepping up now and it would be even better if he steps up in October as a starter - for once.
The game itself was pretty nice and tidy except for that brutal running play in the first inning where Brock Holt counted to 100 before trying to return to his base and got doubled off.
It was nice seeing Brasier volunteer his services as reliable high leverage setup guy. They need that in October. Still don't know how the first runner of the inning wasn't safe, though.
Kimbrel has a nice easy clean inning. His fastball command still looks a bit off to me, but he had a nice tight curveball that was nasty. If he gets that fastball command, look out.
Nice to see them rolling despite no Chris Sale. Sale should take however long he needs to be as close to 100% right as possible and still have time to ramp up. The Red Sox are handling this right and that's because of their nice cushion, and they have that nice cushion because of that wonderful 4 game sweep of the Yankees! The gift that keeps on giving!

I try to like Price, but it can be tough. I have no problem with being private and maybe even being a bit hostile to the Boston media. He seems to struggle with picking his battles, though. I can’t remember another Sox (maybe Carl Crawford?) who creates more trouble for himself.

I hope Pomeranz is not going back into the rotation. He's not. The Sox are having a bullpen day, and Eduardo is rehabbing Monday. At worst we are seeing 2 more bullpen days before Eduardo returns.

Just those he considered unfair, not a small number.
