I just want Sale for the playoffs. How soon would he have to start game action? Around Sept 15th? Let the media squabble give them something to talk about. To me it’s amazing they just gloss over this team. There not impressed at all. All I hear about is Tom Brady getting along with coach.
This team is mentally strong. It might not have the starters like Houston or the bullpen like the A’s built or the Yankees have. I have to get a look at the Indians I like there manager and I want to see if they are top heavy or deep.

Ready for some Sunday afternoon baseball. would love to see one of those games where the Sox bats explode - would love to see Mookie and Beni get the train moving.
But...I will be happy with any sort of W!
MFY game - Happ gets to go against his old team. How do these things typically go, one wonders? Light him up, Jays!

I try to like Price, but it can be tough. I have no problem with being private and maybe even being a bit hostile to the Boston media. He seems to struggle with picking his battles, though. I can’t remember another Sox (maybe Carl Crawford?) who creates more trouble for himself. Teddy Ballgame? Though he wasn't tough on all media all the time. Just those he considered unfair, not a small number. To be fair here, Williams had a right to be angry with a couple...most specifically Dave Egan,..who was always on his case...hammered him endlessly because Ted didn't bunt and therefore was not a team player for example. Egan left Ted off an All-Star ballot where even picking him 15th would have given Ted another MVP just because he didn't like him.

My unpopular opinion: how a public figure performs in front of the media only tells you about what kind of performer they are, and nothing about the kind of person they are. All else being equal, I'm a little suspicious of people who come off well in that situation by saying the right things all the time (e.g., Derek Jeter), because that is almost by definition a sign of inauthenticity.
If Price's teammates like him, that is a million times more important than whether the media does.

IIRC, last year it was because he was injured and frustrated........ he was short.....now he is pitching well , what is the reason to act like tht ? that was a snippet of a longer session, so context is important, just appear to be a prickly guy at times. seems sad to me, when so much Is going right for him And the team

Whatever else, I’m just psyched Price is pitching as well as he is. Odd as it is to say, he is kind of quietly having a really excellent season. If he can keep this level for a few more years, I’m happy to have him not opt out and even pop off occasionally to the press.

If it's just "Boy, that Price guy is not very good at projecting a likable (or at least ignorable) public persona through the media," then sure. But 9 times out of 10, what people say is some variant of "Boy, that Price guy is a real [buttface, let's say]." See, for instance, a number of the comments here - and (credit to the commenters) these are among the more measured takes you'll see anywhere.

Interesting that before coming to Boston, he was: considered a well-liked professional baseball player who was a great mentor to younger teammates, especially pitchers; well-liked by fellow ballplayers throughout the game; well-regarded by his community for his philanthropy and public service, loyal to all of his former college teammates and stayed in touch with them while invested in their success; a prolific twitter personality; a positive clubhouse influence (per all of his former managers).
Change number 1: He came to Boston on a very big contact. Change number 2: He was pitcher approaching the downslope from his peak. Change number 3: He was ill-suited to the constant criticism that comes from a competitive media market with a lot of blowhards who either exacerbate or make up issues to fill the airwaves or remain relevant members of the "knights of the keyboard."
Result: not unpredictable that it is difficult for certain people to become universally liked in Boston unless they stay well within their allotted space and don't deviate from what many of us feel is their "place."
Nevertheless, sans his ill-advised confrontation (ostensibly to protect a teammate he felt was unfairly criticised while rehabbing), he is still all of those things he always was, just a little diminished physically.

This inning is stretching out Velazquez's pitch count. He might be done after 4 innings if he keeps this up.

I'm happy for Beeks - got to feel good for him to be doing this in Fenway. Great approach with JDM. Now, Xander - make him pay!
