![](https://i.imgflip.com/2gfx1w.jpg) I remember when he almost won the Cy Young in 2004. Didn't know he was still around the game.

Blargh... am in a meeting, so I can only follow on gameday... but it seems like this may be one of Price’s best performances in his Sox career. His season is beyond my expectations, and I really applaud him for doing what he’s doing after the tension and injury adversity.

79 pitches through 6 - Price can go 8 today. 20 in the first, 59 through the next 5. He surely can, but I'd prefer to see him go 7. Let Pom and Thornburg do mop-up duty. Give Price the standing-o and rest that arm.

Another hit for Swihart. He needs to be the starting catcher at-least 50% of the time next year.

Now it's only Beni and Holt without hits - and they've each walked twice
CORRECTION - just Beni

That wasn’t sarcastic it was written before the “double”... i mean the pitcher got him to roll one over - just got unlucky I hate hate hate walking the bases loaded. You're going from a situation where a hit scores a run to one where a hit or a walk scores a run. (The direct comparison isn't perfect, but consider the implication of the fact that Xander's OBP is higher than Martinez' BA.) On top of that you're putting so much more pressure on your pitcher. I can't find the stats, but I'm pretty sure hitters do a fair bit better with the bases loaded than when first base is empty. If Nunez were batting behind Martinez, okay, but the dropoff from Martinez to Bogaerts (or Holt to Nunez!) is nowhere near big enough to justify the IBB. That’s pretty incomplete tho. JD could fly out or ground out and still produce a run. If Xander grounds out the inning is likely over. I’ll take the lessor hitter and the chance to get out of the inning.

But FWIW, run expectancy went from 1.47 to 1.64 following the walk. That stat is blind to hitter quality, but I just don't think the dropoff from JDM to Bogaerts can make up for that difference. And that's not to mention the fact that Xander's hit .327/.441/.636 in August.

When was Benny's last home run? Feels like he's due for one this weekend

David Price has arrived! What a gem. He's dominating right now.

Herculean performance by Price.
This series tells us two things - we can play with Cleveland - and we can come back and rally from a few tough losses.
Folks, this is NOT your 2016 and 2017 Red Sox. This is Cora's team.

What a huge comeback this series. Lost 3 straight and it looked like Cleveland might sweep us and the Yankees would makeup some ground quickly.

Benintendi has only two homers since the start of July, but he's got 15 doubles. And he has only struck out 28 times in 181 PA, which is how he's been able to hit .321 over that stretch without a high but definitely not absurd BABIP (.376). Today was just his second start in August without getting a hit.

In case anybody was wondering... Price's Game Score of 89 today was the best of his career.
He has posted 87 twice, 4/25/2010 vs TOR (9.0/4/0/0/0/1/9) and 8/21/2014 vs TB (8.0/1/1/0/0/0/9).

That’s fair and it technically didn’t work, but the pitcher did get Xander to hit a soft grounder that most of the time is an inning ending double play so we are probably splitting hairs.

This is one of the only times Thornburg should pitch. Up by or down by 7.
Jeez, 7 might not be enough for him

I don't think Eovaldi makes the playoff roster because I think the Pitching staff roster will be; Sale, Porcello, Price, E. Rod Kimbrel, Barnes, Hembree, Braisier, Kelly, Thornburg, Velázquez, Johnson Just a reminder that as of yesterday you thought Thornburg would be on the playoff roster over Eovaldi, lol

Like an extra pinch runner or something.

I feel okay with the split. Cleveland came in hot. No Chris Sale. Boston thoroughly outplayed Cleveland in games 3 and 4, and game 1 could have gone either way. I really thought Boston “got to” Kluber better than Cleveland got to Porcello. But Cleveland made their hits count a little more against Porcello. Fun series. Two really good teams. Wouldn’t be surprising to see either the last team standing.
