Yeah I'm borderline not even offering the QO to Kimbrel this offseason. This is stupid. They’re obviously going to offer a QO, but for around the same price you could probably add both Familia and Andrew Miller. I’d do that. I’d definitely prefer a draft pick to paying Kimbrel though.

Holy sh-t, we're up 3-1. It is in no way over but we're in a real good spot now... Tomorrow looks like a throwaway game....Price, Rodriguez??? With all the pitches Price threw in the pen tonight I am guessing it is going to be E-Rod.

So... resign Damaged Goods Kimbrel for 4y/48? We are going to need him one more time in this series. 4y/38?

So it seems like we're officially getting Price tomorrow according to Olney.

We’re in a three game series and we just need to not get swept.

I hope Price makes the whole world shut up about him tomorrow. Hopefully he and ERod can combine for 7.

Kimbrel did not have his best stuff nor did he have his best command. Somehow he managed to pitch two innings against the second best team in baseball, hold them to one run, and save the game. Never before had he pitched a two-inning save. It seems reasonably likely that the Sox will be in the series and Kimbrel will be a critical factor. If he does well, I bet the Sox will try to resign him. At the minimum they will give him the QO. I think they will do that in any case.

Damn, the more I watch this play the more it's obvious Mookie isn't even close to being beyond the wall. Of course Gary Sheffield, professional Nyquil drinker, sees the opposite. There were at least 3 hands over the yellow line and in the field. There were hands touching his glove before he went over that line. Folks were looking at Mookie and how much he was reaching in the direction of the stands. That automatically makes his glove look in the stands. But if you look at his body, he's a good distance from the wall and it's hard to imagine how a guy his size has his glove in the stands, completely past the wall, from where he is.

Watching the MLB network and someone (Billy Ripken, I think) actually spotted the guy grabbing the wall and reaching over and Trevor Bauer (I think) pointed out that Mookie didn't hit the wall for a while after the play. Both he kind of things I was pointing out.
But they don't know thee damend rule. One guy saying Mookie left his feet so that means he's not in the field, someone else saying if Mookie was 3 towns into the stands he still doesn't think it's interference.

Tomorrow's game should be all Price. It's time he shows up in the playoffs

Tomorrow's game should be all Price. It's time he shows up in the playoffs No way he can go too deep on 3 days rest and after all the warming up tonight. Maybe 3 IP from each him and ERod. Then see where we're at and if we go back to Brasier and Barnes or if we're down it's probably Workman and Hembree.

Who is available to pitch tomorrow? Brasier and Kimbrel are almost certainly off. Kelly threw over 20 pitches, so he’s probably off. None of our starters line up to take a ‘bullpen day’ inning unless Sale can do it, which I’m not counting on. Barnes and ERod could probably use breathers too, but I doubt we have that luxury. So it looks like your guys are Price, ERod, Barnes, Hembree, and Workman.
Price, if you’re ever going to reverse your playoff fortunes, we need you to do it now. I’d love to avoid pitching Sale again in this series if possible. He could use the extra days to recover from that illness.

Cora also said there's no circumstance where Sale pitches tomorrow.

"The fan interfered with (Mookie Betts) over the playing field. That's why I called spectator interference...The replay official said I was right. That's all. He said, 'I have nothing that can change it.'"

Whew. That game was really hard to watch and when Kimbrel pitched I totally couldn't watch. He's become quite unwatchable.
What a catch by Benintendi. Awesome defense by Betts, too, and of course the offensive hero is Bradley again, making a case for ALCS MVP if the Sox can nail down that 4th win.
I swear - sometimes I think this team just has a lucky horseshoe up its a$$.
Mookie's catch could have been ruled a double. After being deprived of a huge hit in the top of the 9th with the bases loaded that would have broke open the game Benintendi makes the game saving catch in the last of the 9th with the bases loaded. Who scripted that?
It's tough watching the pitchers pitch. They all look exhausted.
Porcello looked like he was spent from doing double duty. They've used Brasier a lot and he looked gassed when they extended him beyond his normal 3 outs. Cora picked Barnes for the highest leverage spot he could choose and once he got the out, Cora wanted no part of pitching Barnes beyond that - he knows that he's been pitching him everyday.
Kimbrel for 6 outs is terrifying. It's amazing he's incapable of getting through a post-season outing without giving it up. Sooner or later he's going to kill this team or the fanbase that's watching him.
I feel like Cora is trying to reach to get all 27 outs. And E-Rod only faced one batter, so is he being held back to piggyback Price who's going on 3 days' rest?
That game was just to crazy. Somehow this spent pitching staff is 1 victory away from going to the World Series, and they just bought themselves some breathing room if Price goes to 0-10 in his starts and/or Verlander dominates as he usually does. Now the Sox aren't forced to win both games at Fenway, which is a relief given how well Houston plays on the road.

Just so everyone knows- Kimbrel is 4/4 in Save Opportunities this postseason.
He's money.

An aging closer with poor control looking to get paid among the best relievers isn't worth it.

I'm going Erod and then Price if I'm the manager. Gives you the best chance to save an overworked bullpen. He's due for a big start! I just don't know how you start Price on short rest when he's been pitching like crap.

Only six teams in history have come back from a 3-1 deficit without home field advantage. I've put the W / Pyth W in parentheses for each team.
The 1958 Yankees (92 / 98) over the Braves (92 / 92).
The 1968 Tigers (103 / 103) over the Cardinals (97 / 96)
The 1979 Pirates (98 / 95) over the Orioles (102 / 98). The 2003 Marlins (91 / 87) over the Cubs (88 / 85). The 2004 Red Sox (98 / 96) over the Yankees (101 / 89). The 2016 Cubs (103 / 107) over the Indians (94 / 91).
It's rather amazing that the last two times, famous post-season droughts were broken, Theo Epstein was the architect of both winning teams, and Terry Francona managed first the winner and then the loser.
What's even freakier is that the feat has only been accomplished five times by a team with home field advantage:
1985 Royals (91 / 86) over Cardinals (101 / 100)
1986 Red Sox (95 / 90) over Angels (92 / 91)
1996 Braves (96 / 94) over Cardinals (88 / 86)
2007 Red Sox (96 / 101) over Indians (96 / 91)
2012 Giants (94 / 88) over Cardinals (88 / 93)
Perhaps the freakiest thing is that either the Red Sox or Cardinals have been involved a majority of the time, and the Sox are 3-0 and the cardinals 0-4. If the Cardinals ever get a 3-1 lead in the WS over the Sox, we'll all know what to expect.
Of the 11 teams that did this, 6 had an edge in regular season wins and 2 were tied, while 7 had an edge in Pyth wins. So neither seems to matter more than the other.
