I just don't get why it wasn't Brady. That is by far the easiest one and these is zero reason not to do it. At the risk of going down this rabbit hole again. ...The reason it may not have been Brady could be because it’s POSSIBLE he can’t do anything to his contract until August. Originally, it was reported he could because he didn’t add any new money, but that’s come into question since and it’s been hard to find any clarity on it. But it would explain why his contract hasn’t been done yet. I think that has been settled. He can do it.

Here’s a question: Murray or Haskins? I like Haskins a lot but I understand why Arizona is probably drafting Murray. Murray seems pretty damn good but I’ve given up on predicting QBs. There’s just a mental aspect of that position that’s almost impossible to get by watching tape and even college games. They can fool you pretty easily. Absolutely what's between the ears. Yet Haskins if he's smart looks like a prototype franchise QB. Lots of question marks given his lack of experience and talent level. Yet tons of natural arm talent. He makes it look easy. Two totally different QBs.

Just so you know this is what the Patriots compete against. This may be the worst quote I’ve ever heard from a GM. "When we look at players we look at talent," Williams said of Collins' signing, per NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay. "It's up to the defensive coordinator and the defensive back coaches to scheme him up. We're not in the room with the scheme. I don't know exactly what the scheme is." LOL We have the best who has ever done it but this just laughable. With all the coaching changes this could be a very trying season for BB, and even if they get to another SB he won't get any consideration for COY. I t's tough and lonely at the top of the mountain.

Well we now know why they needed money right this second. Made big run at Jared Cook, yet lost out to Saints.

Happy retirement Gronk! How fitting that his last reception was the final Patriots reception of Super Bowl LIII, the key 29 yard reception that set up the only touchdown of the game. Gronk goes out a champion. Now add tight end along with wide receivers as area of needs on a growing list of needs for the Patriots.

Congrats Gronk. Please don’t break your back wrestling!
Now the offensive receiving positions are probably the worst in the league.

Glad he waiting until all the right ends were signed weei.com reported that the Pats aggressively courted Jared Cook who eventually signed with New Orleans. Doesn't sound like the Patriots were counting too much on Gronk coming back.

The timing sucks. We have more money and all the top options are now off the board.

I read that Cook liked his chances of starting for New Orleans, which factored into his decision.
Cue the Matt Lacosse career highlight tape!

The timing sucks but I doubt the Patriots were really caught off guard with this. They need wide receivers, too, which they already knew, and they're pretty much off the board, too.

It's being reported that the Cook signing is not official. Crazier things . . .
Meanwhile, Miguel changed his handle so it looks like NE has over 17 mn in space now.

Who wants to bet Gronk is back in 2019 for the playoff push?

Who wants to bet Gronk is back in 2019 for the playoff push? That would be awesome and I was thinking the same ever since McGinest mentioned it a few weeks back, makes a lot of sense I hope he misses the locker room. Bad day for Boston sports. C's look bad a gain, Gronk retires and the Sox end up just waiving Leon. I think the Pats could be motivated to move up in the draft if Hockenson drops far enough for a 1st and 2nd/3rd would be enough. Might be too aggressive considering all the other TE options but all I know right now is that Tom doesn't have many weapons and they have some serious work to do. Any thoughts on when Gordon could be allowed back?

Given Cooks picked the Saints talking about opportunities and they did the Gilmore restructure to get money to sign him. I'd say they didn't know this was coming. I'm sure they knew it could happen, but not that it would. Otherwise no need for a Gilmore restructure. Nevermind the Gronk news has kinda stopped the Cooks deal or at least slowed it down. They wanted to add receiving targets, now have to replace another one.

Who wants to bet Gronk is back in 2019 for the playoff push? Hope I'm but I don't see it. Tons of opportunities for him doing things like WWE and movies. I'd go be the next Rock, Cena, or Dave Bautista if I was him. More money and it fits him, plus he's already a HOF TE.

I know he will get opportunities but I’d say the chances of him being the next Rock are less than 5% and Cena less than 30... I’ve seen w little acting Gronk tried and it’s not pretty. The Rock is actually a very goof actor for what he does. Cena is decent. All that said it doesn’t change your point. Those chances and distractions will be there and he will try.

I think the Pats had a pretty good idea he wasn't coming back but you're right - his money wasn't freed up on a timely basis, so yeah that's a part of the problem, and there wasn't much they could do about it.

I'm sure he can be in the next Sharknado movie and keep screaming "Tide pods!", but that's about the limit I see in his acting ability.

Gronk has a great personality and if he works at it I think he can be rather good. The Rock is obviously the gold standard, but even a Dave Bautista has been rather good in the right roles. He'll need a really good agent and have to pick the right roles.

Not great for his back, though. I hope he avoids the WWE beyond a little showmanship.
