Trade up

Hadn't read much about Cowart, but sounds like he has a lot of untapped potential. Sounds like a beast. Played really well at the Senior Bowl which is one of the best indicators of how they'll fit in the NFL. They gave up #162 and #239 for #159.

Traded up for a punter? OK Bill, you have enough success to never be questioned about anything.
Can't wait to see Walter's Football grade on that.

Good use of those 7th rounders to move up the draft board without really giving up too much. Ryan Allen only has 100k guaranteed and is in the last year of his deal. Highest ranked punter according to NFL.com.
Don't mind it. Any TEs left at this point are major projects and we're probably going to have to address that need through a trade. As someone else pointed out we have a boatload of picks next year and we could trade from that pool.
All our other needs were addressed, so I'm pretty happy with this class.

Ok back to regular Patriots picks... punter 😂 Why in the F would you trade up 4 spots for a punter?!?

They didn't really give up much... late 7th rounders are worth basically nothing on the Jimmy Johnson chart.

Normally I wouldn't even read the scouting report of a punter but I did. Fun facts about the new punter. He actually ran at the combine and posted a 4.72 40. He also had an 82% touchback percentage on kickoffs and didn't allow any long punt returns as a senior.
Eagles took Thorson at a great spot in the draft.

Ok back to regular Patriots picks... punter 😂 Why in the F would you trade up 4 spots for a punter?!? I'm guessing because they don't have many players left on their board and don't need the 7th round picks. Better to get a guy you want than taking guys you don't want later.

They had to do one transaction that made you go WTf, they almost went a full draft without it. Overall who cares, it's a rather small one. Yet not even close to best available and almost no chance someone else takes him in the 5th round within those few picks. Draft Mags did rate him #1 punter and 6-7th round guy. It's just trading up for a Punter!

Haha New England Patriots: Jake Bailey, P, Stanford GENE SMITH Grade Not only did the Patriots waste a fifth-round pick on a punter; they traded up for a punter! THERE'S NO REASON TO TRADE UP FOR A PUNTER, EVER, UNLESS HE CAN BLAST 100-YARD PUNTS WITH A BIONIC LEG!!! Read more at www.walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades5.php#pX7Mbz64pTS0Y6Oj.99

Those 7th round picks aren't worth much at all and they got the best punter in the class.

Read more at www.walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades5.php#pX7Mbz64pTS0Y6Oj.99He did punt one 84 yards which is impressive lol Walter has lost his mind, though is very predictable. Check this out: New England Patriots: Byron Cowart, DT, Maryland C- Grade Byron Cowart is a fringe draftable prospect, so the Patriots could've done better in the fifth round. Cowart lacks experience and good athleticism. He wasn't productive at Maryland. He doesn't strike me as a smart football player. I'm not exactly sure what he does well outside of holding up well in run support. Read more at www.walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades5.php#dfSCw57i8IXJRSXt.99So he was "fringe draftable" and yet his scouting report on the same site... Byron Cowart*, DE, Maryland Height: 6-3. Weight: 298. Arm: 34.00. Hand: 9.63. 40 Time: 5.16. Bench: 26. Vertical: 30. Broad: 9-3. Projected Round (2019): 4-6.
4/20/19: In 2018, Cowart totaled 37 tackles with five for a loss and three sacks. He had another year of eligibility and should have returned to Maryland, but he decided to enter the 2019 NFL Draft. Cowart performed better than expected at the Senior Bowl. 8/29/18: Cowart was the No. 1 recruit in the nation from Seffner, Florida coming out of high school, but he didn't live up to the hype in two seasons at Auburn. He had six tackles as a freshman and six tackles with one sack as a sophomore. There was talk that he would move inside to tackle as a junior, but he had only three tackles with .5 for a loss before leaving the Auburn program during the season. Cowart then transferred to Maryland. Read more at www.walterfootball.com/draft2019DE.php#DVt0pvuYRgWc3Q5v.99

If the Pats snag Stanley Morgan with their last pick, I’ll probably rub one out, take a nap and wait for the Bruins to start

Belichek must've fallen asleep and Caserio orchestrated the move for the punter.
Not bc he's a punter but bc he's a right-footed punter.

What a horrible pick given all the talent on the board. 4th for a great kicker ok, punter is a joke though. Once upon a time, the Jaguars picked a punter with Russell Wilson still available. To be fair, the Jags weren't in the QB market at the time as they were still trying to win with Gabbert and Anger was the top punter of the class at the time I believe. Not to mention for a team that would likely be punting as much as the Jaguars were, punting and field position were more important. Not saying it's a good pick, but there's no narrative that it was the punter or Russell Wilson as the Jags weren't going to pick a QB regardless.

Given that they addressed everything else, I’m happy with this class.
They have three 3rds and two 4ths next year and could always trade one of those or a player for a TE when finalizing the roster for the season if they need to.

Caleb Wilson is still there. I was expecting the UGA tight end but of course Detroit took him... give me a WR at this point... i also like the guard from UNC Sweet.

Stidham looks solid. Late second round projection in the 4th round. Hopefully he turns into more than a backup type.
Does that mean Hoyer is gone or Etling?

I like the Punter pick too. I felt Ryan Allen's job was pretty much gone if they took a punter and thought the Patriots were going to take one. They took the best one in the draft supposedly.
Thanks for the run Ryan Allen, but you were clearly declining last year.
Late 5th round is a bit of a reach, but they must have really wanted him and he clearly is really good. So late 5th round to make sure you get him is a good move imo.

Cowart and Froholdt seem like practice squad guys. The took a ton of guards. Even Cajuste is a OT that is projected to be a guard. I hope Isaah Winn is ready to play left tackle this year.
Okay I'm done posting.
