Yeah my overall point is that given his shot selection, him shooting 3s won’t “add” to the team. Agreed that you take the good with the bad with Smart. It’s just that he’s made such great strides in playmaking and ball handling, but he hasn’t made his shot selection meaningfully better. On another topic, it should be a fun game tomorrow. I’m really interested in how they use their big men against Giannis. The offense looks really good with G Williams at the 5, but I have my doubts that will work with a star big in the mix. I think R Williams might make the best matchup in terms of getting the proper size/length/athleticism on Giannis, but he’s had some problems with silly fouls and missed assignments through the first 3 games. You don’t think last year he showed improved shot selection? Sure. But one season of better (but not “good”) shot selection on the most talented team he’s ever played on isn’t really a trend.

I didn’t say it was but to say he hasn’t made it meaningfully better after the year in which it was meaningfully better seems like an unfair assessment of a yet to be determined outcome.

Wow I’m so shocked to see the Celtics lay an egg against Milwaukee.

VERY impressed with that second half, pitch perfect execution on offense and just being BAD MEN on defense. I have watched a lot of great Celtics players in my life, but Smart might just be my favorite of them all. What an absolute MONSTER. Screw Curry taking long 3's, the Smarf Charge is the best play in the NBA.

Meanwhile, old pal Aron Baynes is having himself a GAME for the Suns on the absolute howler of an evening for the Warriors. Wish he was still here, dude's a baller and a terrific defender. Phoenix got Dario Saric as well who I absolutely love and would also fit like a glove.
Can't sleep, still too hyped up by the Celtics game and then the WS. Late basketball hasn't been kind either today lol.

Toughed out win vs poor Knicks at home. Cs playing with resilience. But boy do they need a top center.
Smart looks more flexible this year. He can drive and pop mid-range. Hayward is now valuable...still a bit away... Walker has been the reason for wins in the last three...the anti-Kyrie. Quiet, efficient, team guy.
I am now enjoying watching the Celtics a lot.

Umass you were so wrong about Doncic. He's by far the best player in that class, could win MVP real soon. Just an incredibly well rounded game.

We will see, little early 5 games into the second season of a draft class to declare that. Just look at Brown in year four we still have no clue what he will become. Doncic is crazy skilled, the extra experience shows. He's likely the top offensive player with his scoring and passing. Yet he's still not a good athlete. Watched 15 minutes of highlights from that game and his D isn't good. They do a good job of hiding him on D, sticking him on guys like Bradley when they can. Yet he'll never be close to a two way monster. Without going back and reading what I remember as a very long debate, wasn't it two things was he the best prospect since LeBron and would you take him over Ayton. He's not close to LeBron, he just can't impact both sides of the game like an elite two way player can. Ayton still has that upside even with him being stupid and playing for maybe the worst run team in the NBA. Sure right now I'd take Doncic, his skill level is crazy. Yet I still feel Ayton has Embiid type upside and I'd take Embiid over Doncic all day long. We'll see if he ever reaches it.

I don't remember much debate about him being the best prospect since Lebron and I don't think he was either, there have been many other players who clearly had a higher upside coming into the draft. I think the debate was more about him versus Ayton and yeah it's looking very lopsided early on. Ayton being a moron probably skews that debate and we didn't know that at the time. Good point about his defense, I think savvy is the best thing I could say about him right now. He's clearly not good, but at least he doesn't miss rotations and use his body relatively well to stand in the way of fools. But on offense dear God, on offense he's a genius. He makes some passes I've only seen Lebron do at that size, he's a constant threat to score, you just have to keep everyone focused on him, he's slippery and just unbelievably aware of what's happening on every play. He reminds me of Steve Nash. Just a great, great player and he's not even a great shooter yet which is scary because his shot looks good. I really hope the Mavs don't mess this one up.

The Warriors are getting lucky again. Going to have such a terrible year and get a top 3 pick to add to all their healthy guys next year.

Spurs in 97 drafted Duncan because Robinson missed a season with injuries.

The one thing that stands out on offense is he uses his skills, Basketball IQ and Savvy to get off a shot whenever he wants. The only issue with that is those moves he uses because he isn't a great athletes results in incredibly hard shots. Against Davis and LeBron he used his one footed step back that he loves to get his three point shot off. Now he made both, but one footed falling away three pointers are a crazy hard shot. My point being is I think he's a good shooter, he just takes a ton of difficult shots, but he almost has too unlike a guy like Smart because teams aren't going to leave him uncovered and he has the ball so much. I wouldn't worry about the Mavs messing it up. I actually think they've done a brilliant job of getting the most out of him. They handed him the keys day one and built the whole offense around him. They do a great job of hiding him on D when they can. He's lucky he went to the Mavs over the Suns or Hawks.

I agree they are getting lucky, yet you really think they are that bad and lucky to get a top three pick? So much depends on Curry. Seen 2-3 months, some say 3 months minimum. Even at 3 months that has him back for the final two and half months. I don't see that team tanking or Curry playing along sitting an extra month while healthy.

GH last night was a perfect example of a player whom the game has slowed down for. Playing with a level of confidence such that he doesn't rush anything. It is where Tatum and Brown are headed but you can see it in their play that the game has yet to slow down for them.

Don did you watch Duke last night? This is going to be an interesting year for them. Alex O’Connell surprised me. He’s going to be a weapon the next 2 years.

Even when Curry is there the team isn’t good.
