Not gonna lie, even though it kinda had to be done at this point it's still pretty sad. And Cora's statement about managing the Red Sox being the best two years of his life...in October 2018 you couldn't guess anything but him having a very long run as Sox manager.

Right move though, and Cora handled it with dignity.

Honestly, I loved him for 2018. I'll forever appreciate him for it. With that said, he cheated and was caught. He also showed up the next year like he could wakeup and win 100 games and it showed. Their season went down the tubes before it even began.
I wouldn't have fired him for last year if just for merit on what happened, but I wouldn't have been beaten up if they fired him either for just that. At least now Bloom gets to pick his manager.

I wonder if this is suffient response before punishment to save the first round picks. That has to be a cause for the prompt action.

Sad but necessary. The Patriots have placed the fan base on the defensive forever by holding onto the cheating head coach. The RS chose to part ways and show no tolerance for the lack of integrity. I like Cora but I can't fault the org here.

I like Cora but I can't fault the org here. This decision has nothing to do with the Patriots and how they've handled their issues. If anything, using that logic, wouldn't that embolden the Red Sox to hold onto Cora if they still felt as though he could help the organization win and play at a high level?

If my calculations are correct, we are now under the CBT threshold.

Very late in the offseason to be looking for a new manager. Any ideas on who might on the short list of candidates?

He made a sizeable chunk of money playing and believe his family is still fairly young. Doubt could get him to stay away for such long periods for the grind of managing/coaching for those reasons, not like older days when many players never made $$$. Takes certain players to forgo family commitment.

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying this, but cheating is part of the human condition. It occurs in many forms. In baseball, it occurs because winning it all is a scarce resource. Uber competitive people are prone to such behavior.

I'm sad that it had to come to this.
I thought he'd be the manager for the next ten years.
I'll always think of him fondly, but it was inevitable that he had to go.
Kudos to Freddysthefuture2003 - he sniffed this out before a lot of us realized the ramifications.
The timing makes all the sense in the world because there was no way they could have that writers dinner this week and fanfast weekend in Springfield and have Alex Cora with that controversy hanging over his head.
Dombrowski (probably) and Cora are in line to receive suspensions. Now neither work for the Red Sox so the Sox FO doesn't have to answer those questions of what they have to do - they can point to a clean start.

Anyone in our minor league system who’s worth a look? Wasn’t Febles a promising young manager with Portland?

You can't name Roenicke the new manager and then a week before spring training the investigation concludes and it turns out he helped direct whatever scheme.
