Let’s try to be Danny fir a second though... rumors are he wants to package his picks and move up... he has to have someone in mind (like Winslow that year)... who do we think that guy is? Okongwu? Hayes? I wish it were Vassell but for some reason, I don’t see that. Honestly, I don’t think they can really trade up... First off I think the rumors are false. Do we really think Danny is trying to trade all three picks before the draft and before he knows who's there? I think it's more Danny doing his homework, which of course he's exploring all options. Some how that turns into Danny is shopping all three picks, when it's likely he's just gauging teams interest in moving down. Danny did talk about filling needs in this draft, something he doesn't normally do. If you trade up like that, I think that's what you do. Target a need. So Wiseman, Okongwu, and Toppin. Yet I think it's Wiseman and Toppin given they add offense and shooting. For me it's Wiseman. I do have to mention Okoro, he doesn't fit a need, like not even close. Yet he's the type of guy Danny loves. Word is it’s Okongwu Danny wants. Per Kevin O’Connor

I don’t know why you’d think the rumors are false. Last time they had too many picks Danny tried to package them like this. Obviously, they won’t execute anything before knowing who’s there, that doesn’t change rumors.

Obviously, they won’t execute anything before knowing who’s there, that doesn’t change rumors. Agreed. I think we get too hung up on the wording of the rumors and forget that, like a game of telephone, the message can get changed slightly as it passes along the chain of communication (from someone with direct knowledge, through some number of sources, to the person 1st reporting the rumor, to any subsequent reports that follow up citing 1st reporters work). We'll never know what the report is based off of but if we could, and any of the following were the case, none would make the rumor false: - Danny is actually calling teams, offering up all 3 picks to move up now. - If OO IS the target, Danny calling up 1 team specifically (Charlotte? I only say that bc there is rumor that if Wiseman isn't available, he's their guy) and asking if they'd make the deal now. - Danny asking around to see if, when the time comes, anyone would be interested in a 3-for-1 pick swap. - Danny indicating a general willingness to move all 3 to move up but not actually making an offer (granted, this would be the furthest from the report but I don't believe many in the "insider" world would count this as a miss). FWIW, Zach Lowe also reported that he's hearing Danny is "offering" (again, let's use a BROAD interpretation here) picks targeting veteran players as well.

I 100% believe Danny is seeing what's out there. I don't believe the reports that make it sound like he's trying to get a pick before the draft. As Texas said if it's just the message is getting slightly blurred okay that makes sense.
It's not a surprise, Danny does this every year. He always looks at his options. It's why we always have so many rumors.
I also don't buy that Danny is letting people know who he wants. He's never once done that. He always shows interest in multiple players and keeps you guessing.

Not that OO is the target (he's long been considered a "fit") but that someone has gotten that information out of Danny.

I don't know why someone wants to pick on Rozier. He was a huge reason we made the ECF. He played team ball and just had a bad night. You wanna pick on someone, go pick on Irving against the Bucks. He literally shot us out of a series playing non team ball. He literally made players like Tatum and Brown worse than they were, while Rozier made them better. Nevermind his response was I should have taken even more shots. That deserves to be picked on. Rozier never did that crap, he was a great teammate.

I had seen the report from Kevin O'Connor (who I think is very good) but didn't read the detail. Had assumed it was more than just connecting the dots but maybe not.

Would you guys trade Hayward and all the firsts for the terrible Wiggins contract and 2?

I don't know about that, he's like a slightly more skilled Robert Williams. I'd point out Robert Williams was ranked as a lottery guy based on rebounding and D. He fell in the draft because of character issues, which seem to have been way overblown. Given the massive jump Williams made from year one to year two. Why don't we think he'll get better again next year? Okongwu shows zero range. I like him, I just don't see the perfect fit given Robert Williams.

Would you guys trade Hayward and all the firsts for the terrible Wiggins contract and 2? Nope, yet I haven't really studied the top guys a ton. Yet I really think this draft is like that Tatum draft minus Tatum. Where two of the best players went 13 and 14, plus some great players latter in the first. Wiggins does nothing for us, yet if Danny sees a Tatum at #2 sure. Yet highly unlikely. If the Warriors want to use the #2 pick and Wiggins they can likely get a lot better player than Hayward. Yet the Warriors are also a team that could really use depth.

Here's my thing about Celtics rumors - I think we learned a key lesson with the Tatum trade. We now know that Tatum was who they wanted all along, but the subterfuge around Fultz, Josh Jackson, etc., allowed them to add value and still get their guy. That's why I cast a skeptical look at every "Celtics locked in on XXX" rumor out there. Danny's shown how stealthy he can be when he really has cards to play. More likely he's trying to get other teams to show their cards to better game out the lottery.

www.theringer.com/2018/3/22/17149150/robert-williams-texas-am-sweet-16Just a little something to compare Robert Williams to the current guys. We are just starting to see the defensive monster that can guard smaller players. You started to see the Raptor guards want no part of driving on him as that series played out. He's improved his FT shooting and has added a nice looking jumper. He's still learning overall team D, yet he's only played in 61 regular season games. Bigs always take more time to develop and so far Williams had made a massive leap. Which is what you want to see.

He’s still learning but overall defensively he hurts because he’s bad on rotations and is often out of position chasing blocks. You see it all the time, leaving his man and that guy getting an easy dunk. He’s learning - needs the reps and needs to be healthy to get them. He’s an exciting player. I don’t think you can say that the character was misdiagnosed. It’s quite possible he’s just matured and that’s not an easy thing to predict.

I don't agree at all. Robert Williams is a good defender right now that makes some mistakes. Yet the good easily still outweighs the bad, just look at his numbers. His defensive rating numbers are darn good. He's not close to a Kanter, a guy that gives up tons of easy baskets. Williams also blocks shots and takes away baskets. His defense is night and day compared to his rookie year. Yes he still has a way to go, yet imagine his numbers when he actually has everything down? He could literally be the best defender in whole league, a more mobile version of Gobert.
Now his offensive improvements might be more important because he's not a zero now and you can actually play him more minutes. He just needs more time, because only Smart had lobs down with him. You could tell he hadn't played or practiced with the starters much. They didn't know how to use him, that will change.
We already have a rim running defensive monster. Remember it took Bam three years to become the player he is. Even if you draft a guy, it's going to take time.
The narrative was overblown with Robert Williams. Which is an important part to remember. This time of year people will do that, focus on a negative and make it seem much worse than it is. It's not like Robert Williams matured overnight. The guy missed one meeting and has been a model player for two years.

Obi Toppin is maybe the most extreme type player I've ever watched tape on. He's so crazy athletic on offense. A rim running monster that moves very well and has explosive power at an elite level. Yet on D he looks like he's wearing cement shoes. He has high hips, so he'll never be elite changing direction. Yet I have to question how much of that is effort. There's just no way physically he's that bad.
He's everything on offense we need, yet it's hard to see how you play him with that D.

While his offensive rating was the second highest between Kemba and Tatum. I really like him a lot and pray he can stay healthy but right now he hurts you defensively when he plays big minutes. We’ve all see him come in and dominate and give spurts of elite game changing defense. But the whole of it is bad but should change as he stops hunting and learns rotations

It's point allowed per 100 possessions and points scored per 100. He's #1 on the team regular season in defensive rating, #1 in defensive box score. In the post season he was #2 to only Tatum in defensive rating and I think #4 in defensive box score with Tatum, Wanamaker and Grant Williams. I'm not counting your boy Falls 30 minutes, yet if you wanted to technically he'd be number one in the regular season. Now part of that is Stevens picking the right spots to play him and limited minutes. Yet his overall D is already good when you look at the net ratings. Yeah he makes mistakes, yet he also does a bunch of good things. One the bigger ones is block shots, which does wonders for a D. We literally got to see that in the playoffs. His elite rebounding takes away extra possessions that was a big problem with Theis.

The other piece on Cole Anthony that we don’t really have access to is the knee injury. He had surgery on his meniscus. It’s hard to find real info on the surgery. Did they repair it or remove part of it? Repairing it usually has a longer recovery period and he didn’t miss much time so did they remove part of his meniscus? Is this something, we should worry about long term? Unfortunately, any thoughts on this by us are just speculative.

Cole lands very similarly to Derrick Rose, without the burst or elusiveness on the ball.
