So these soft tossers like Ryan Weber make me nervous. Wakefield made me feel the same way. It’s like I am waiting for the next pitch to just get crushed. I have only seen Weber throw one time in the start he made recently against the Blue Jays. He pitched well then so I am hoping that carries over. Man we could use a Wakefield, the guy would be our #2 right now. Sure could even at age 53 and soon to be 54.

Imagine if we had to watch this crap over 162 games? Over/under of 15 wins? I figured 25, but I am reconsidering that. Imagine going into a three-game series against the MFY and Eovalid isn't scheduled to pitch one of the three. It's hard to imagine not getting swept with three straight blowouts. Which one of Perez, Weber, B. Johnson, Mr. X No. 5 starter is going to keep that lineup in single digits?

A win on any given day is gravy to me. Maybe I will get cranky if they have a five game losing streak, but I don’t think so.

I mean, I wanted Porcello back if you were trying to make any sort of attempt, but they trimmed 2-3 million to get a horrible pitcher vs a pitcher who can sometimes surprise. I shutter to think what a NY series will look like.

I like the way Verdugo plays. I was the biggest fan of this trade so I need him and Downs to shine. I like Verdugo, a lot. I feel like he will be what Benintendi should be.

Imagine if we had to watch this crap over 162 games? Over/under of 15 wins? Yeah, we caught a break. I'm predicting 25-35.... Sox circa 1958-66

I’m really glad this is a condensed season. I didn’t feel like they would be competitive at all and Rafi showing up completely disinterested in playing this year, the terrible pitching and it seems we’re vying for a top draft pick.

Actually, by career ERA-plus, Wake at 105 was significantly better than our No. 1, Eo (95). Throw in durability and it becomes even more of a mismatch. Think about that - our longtime No. 5 SP was better than our 2020 No. 1 - and you'll understand why I think this team will have trouble winning 25/60- games. I wouldn't use adjusted ERA to pick my #1 starter. When Eovaldi is healthy he can be dominate, he just can't maintain it because he can't stay healthy. Nevermind in Wakes best seasons which are what really help his ERA he wasn't our #5 starter. I knew someone would say something like that but I think you have it backwards. In Wake's best seasons, he could dominate. He had two years of ERA-plus over 160. If you want to throw those two out as abberational, Ok. But even without those he had several other seaons just about right at Eo's best season, which was 114 in 2013 with only 106 IP. It's not worth arguing about. I think we agree this year's RS staff is horrific. We're going to see a lot of games over early.

It isn’t hard to make the case that 2020 is a “bridge” year. Maybe they luck their way into the expanded playoffs. I think the bridge extends into 2022. It'll be hard to add two or three decent SPs in one off-season with the payroll constraints they have. ERod, hopefully Sale at some point, a free agent, and then Eovaldi as the #4. It's not that bleak...

After last year, I didn’t even want Weber on this team as a reliever. This is depressing that he is our number three starter. Just awful. Total tank job by ownership.

Can we get the bullpen up or no? Yeah, there’s like 20 guys out there ready to pitch.

I am afraid while the terrible rotation is the obvious issue, the lineup is going to sneak up as a huge weakness. It would not be unreasonable to see a bit of a decline from X, Devers, and CV... they all had peak years last year. (That is aside from issues of dubious conditioning). But I don’t have a ton of faith in the rest (JDM the exception to all of this: he’ll likely he what he always is). I want Chavis to work out, I love JBJ, Moreland, but.... I don’t see this lineup having the potency to win the high scoring games they will have to win.

Dombrowski believed in front line starting pitching. It was expensive, but successful. Some bad luck with Sale and ERod this year, but yeah....the tear down was brutal on the starting pitching.

And maybe Groome is doing his thing next year too? Groome won't be doing his thing on a ML mound any time soon. When 2021 starts, he'll have pitched exactly four innings in three years.

This weekend is your 2020 Red Sox season in microcosm, ladies and gentlemen.
Who would have predicted that the Orioles would come out of opening weekend in first place?

No ERod I mean what can you do. I don’t understand the love fest with Weber at all.
