Dodgers lost their 1st game and are now 2-1. Mookie .125 BA /.250 OPS. In 3 games Mookie has 2 hits, Verdugo has 3 hits in 1 game. Psychological pressure for both players.

Boiling hot take... Benintendi is going to play his way into a fourth outfielder role, so Verdugo won’t be platooning. Also, nobody expects him to replace Mookie’s production. I’m on his bandwagon because he seems to be a guy who loves to play. There’s a joy that I see. Granted, my sample size is tiny and I don’t know him personally. I don’t have Mookie to root for any more, so there is a void. Martin Perez and Dylan Covey just showed me they can’t fill it. Alex Verdugo is my boy! Well, Beni, JBJ, Vertigo, and Pillar can compete for playing time. The “train” that has that battle in outfield is chugging to not-close-to-the-Yankee-station.

Verdugo. Again, much different that Vertigo. The scholar in me is going to keep calling this out, I'm afraid..

So then Vertigo isn't going to bat .750 for the year ? That's disappointing.

Haha watching some of the Band Camp scrimmage. Something I've never seen before, a catcher in full gear (Wong ?) playing left field when Duran was at bat. Mazza looks good, not so good for the other pitcher whoever that is. Marco had a single and HR off him sandwhiched around Duran's single and someone's groundout.
Wong looks like a hitter with decent mechanics but he's considerably smaller than the other catcher (Pereda ?).
EDIT: Wasn't Wong in left field, he's wearing Blue. That catcher was wearing red but it wasn't the catcher catching either.

So these soft tossers like Ryan Weber make me nervous. Wakefield made me feel the same way. It’s like I am waiting for the next pitch to just get crushed. I have only seen Weber throw one time in the start he made recently against the Blue Jays. He pitched well then so I am hoping that carries over.

Christopher Smith @smittyonmlb · 12m Jose Peraza recorded his four hits in his Red Sox debut while just seeing eight pitches in his five-at-bats. Obviously a very small sample size upon which to base this comment, but I’d like to see them try him at lead-off. I’m not sold on Benintendi as a lead-off hitter. What he said.

Throw in durability and it becomes even more of a mismatch. Think about that - our longtime No. 5 SP was better than our 2020 No. 1 - and you'll understand why I think this team will have trouble winning 25/60- games.

It isn’t hard to make the case that 2020 is a “bridge” year. Maybe they luck their way into the expanded playoffs.

It'll be hard to add two or three decent SPs in one off-season with the payroll constraints they have.

It'll be hard to add two or three decent SPs in one off-season with the payroll constraints they have. That's what I think as well. Considering the team and the timing of the prospects we have, 2022 is a more reasonable target year than 2021.

I wouldn't use adjusted ERA to pick my #1 starter. When Eovaldi is healthy he can be dominate, he just can't maintain it because he can't stay healthy. Nevermind in Wakes best seasons which are what really help his ERA he wasn't our #5 starter.
