He also has an arm. I saw one throw during the Summer Camp that was an absolute rope.

Really happy to see JD get a hit there just to see Devers embarrass himself one last time.

If I'm the Red Sox, you just let this season play out, no matter what, and you trade what you can if it makes sense and doesn't do detriment to the long term vision. Perez looked awful today.

I know the Sox aren’t supposed to be all that good this year, but today sucked and felt exactly like 2019. Side note give jd a contract extension.

Raffi and Benny batting zero. Verdugo has more hits than Mookie.

swinging at a lot of bad pitches i can see. Cora was a stickler for swinging in the zone..Don't know if Roenicke is so tuned into that.

I'm eagerly waiting for Benintendi to make that jump and become an all-star player given his prospect status. Dombrowski chose to keep him over Moncada (not that he's been that great for the White Sox either outside of a season with a high BABIP).

Looking forward to seeing Benny and Devers getting a rest tomorrow with the lefty on the mound. Chavis, Peraza, Pillar should all be in the lineup.

And the Sox near decade and a half inability to develop starting pitching once again bites them on the ass, folks.

Dombrowski chose to keep him over Moncada (not that he's been that great for the White Sox either outside of a season with a high BABIP). At this point I'll take Moncada's future over Benintendi's. But that said, you can't erase their 2018 seasons and Benintendi was a contributor and made the catch of the year. Moncada hadn't blossomed at that point yet. I always thought Benintendi could be a young Fred Lynn type. I figured he'd hit .300 with 20 plus homers and vie for batting titles. Maybe there was some Christian Yellich in there. Maybe there still is. He looks as passive this year as last year but the season is all of two days old, so I guess it's wait and see. I just hope he hits enough so that he's at least trade bait for a pitcher should the Red Sox spend their money in free agency on an OF instead of pitching.

That was one dull game. Martin Perez set the tone by being his usual mediocre self. Not really sure what they saw in him other than a body to go out every 5th day. This guy has never been an effective pitcher for any really long stretch of time.
He wasn't helped by Devers who right now looks lost in the field and at the plate. He's swinging at crappy pitches and looks slow and sloppy on defense. He'll figure it out soon hopefully.
Dylan Covey was Dylan Covey and the Sox offense basically stranded their baserunners.
On the plus side it's early in the season so Moreland should go on his annual early tear. He's also quite good at the end as well. Lousy in the middle. Wasn't Bernie Carbo like that too? They both also had huge 3-run PH HRs in the Series as well.
Alex Verdugo looked good with the bat. I think he needs to bat higher up. Perhaps he should replace Benintendi in the leadoff spot? Maybe drop Benintendi to 2nd or 5th in the order?

Does have an opt-out this year but can't imagine he's going to use it. Even with the NL adding the DH (the condition precedent I've previously said needed to exist for him to opt out), I can't imagine the market will be there for him to do much better than he's getting now, unless he has an absolutely monster season.

It was ridiculous to have X and Vazquez sit today. Wow. X came out early last night and Cvaz could have as well if they were worried. That was so disappointing. Devers and Benintendi look absolutely lost at the plate. Damn... not good.... noncompetitive at bats and really off balance by Benintendi.
Here is my bold prediction for this year; Our combined RF production is better than the line Betts puts up this year at a fraction of the price. Betts has not been the same player as his MVP season. I think it is going to be an abysmal contract and I am glad we are not footing it. I would not have been happy to pay him more than 7 years and 180 million.

At this pace, we'll draft 15th or 16th. Being facetious obviously but I am in full re-build mode. Today's SP was a joke and the next three will be worse.
Trading JBJ, taking on a bad contract along with a prospect (Wil Myers?) and drafting in the top 10 could give them three new top-100 prospects.
Oh yeah, then re-sign JBJ during the off-season. It shouldn't be that expensive in an off-season in which the industry has suffered billions in lost revenue.

By the way, I want to say publicly, since so many are so down on him due to the circumstances of his arrival to the franchise, I will be happy to lead the Verdugo bandwagon this season. There's plenty of room. Let me know if you need a ticket. I absolutely want a seat. I think he’s gonna be fun to watch. Count me in as a charter member.

When he finishes top-10 in MVP for the fourth time, wins one, wins a gold glove etc etc etc... Otherwise, I don’t get on platoon-player trains.

Dylan Covey was Dylan Covey and the Sox offense basically stranded their baserunners. If there was a picture of spaghetti sliding down a wall, it has to be the spitting image of Covey. He has no business on a team that is trying to contend. If he stays on the roster for a couple more weeks that tells you what you need to know about the Sox intentions of winning.

Otherwise, I don’t get on platoon-player trains. Boiling hot take... Benintendi is going to play his way into a fourth outfielder role, so Verdugo won’t be platooning. Also, nobody expects him to replace Mookie’s production. I’m on his bandwagon because he seems to be a guy who loves to play. There’s a joy that I see. Granted, my sample size is tiny and I don’t know him personally. I don’t have Mookie to root for any more, so there is a void. Martin Perez and Dylan Covey just showed me they can’t fill it. Alex Verdugo is my boy!

Well, Beni, JBJ, Vertigo, and Pillar can compete for playing time. The “train” that has that battle in outfield is chugging to not-close-to-the-Yankee-station.

Two games into the season and there's going to be exactly one undefeated team remaining in the AL. This season's just going to be a giant crap shoot, ain't it?
