Nuts to me that they weren't letting pro scouts into these places. for context, media gets in fine, and amateur scouts are doing their jobs across the country.
Per Antonellis on his podcast, Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley were the only places doing live streams.

Houck had gone longer. Wonder if they're punting on stretching him out and just trying to get him ready for an MLB relief role, stat.

I think Houck went 4 last Saturday (could have been 5). They were surprised during the live broadcast that he only went two. Maybe he's in play as Mystery Starter or to take some innings Sunday.

Yeah I thought it was 4.
Hadn't thought about Sunday. Good point.

Mike Antonellis@TheRadioMike · 4m Darwinzon Hernandez in his first inning at McCoy: allowed two singles, but retired the next three on 2 K’s and a fly out.

I had planned to watch the sim game but for whatever reason, can't get past 1 out in the second.
Darwinzon looked like he lost a little belly. He was topping out at 95 and looked decent but the contact against him was very hard. He mostly threw fastballs and the announcer said he was scheduled to go three innings.
Gonsalves is a lefty built similarly to Chris Sale. Stuff looked decent but he was missing his spots, walked a batter and had the inning terminated early (pitch limit). Announcers said Lucroy has been working with him. They also said Lucroy has been hitting the ball well.
Chatham made a nice rangy play as the second baseman.

No offense to Chatham, but his steady slide in the rankings is actually an encouraging sign to me, especially since it is not a result of him not performing at the level he has. He seems like utility player, max. So when he was the #6 prospect, it seemed gloomy. Now, mid-teens? Not bad.

Looks like the recording from today is up in two parts--the first one's about 19 minutes, and the second is about an hour and a half. Thx sittingstill. I watched through 3 innings, will watch the rest later to see Mata.
Darwinzon mixed in several plus sliders in the second and third. He topped out at 96. No more contact but he did walk a batter and the pitch counts were a tad high.
Gonsalves has impressive stuff but major control issues. He walked three batters in the second and another in the third. Definitely a project pitcher that is worth keeping. Hopefully Abbott can fix him.
Duran with an impressive steal. Gonsalves saw him go, threw to Ockimey who handled it cleanly and made a nice throw to second. It wasn't close.
The only 3 out inning was Darwinzon's first inning.

Thx sittingstill. I watched through 3 innings, will watch the rest later to see Mata. My understanding is that neither Mata nor Groome pitched--they threw a little long toss to each other in the outfield. (I think I watched everything I missed live.) They were originally projected to pitch but things change quickly there! Monday is an off day but I'll be interested to see if they pitch Tuesday.

I think I watched almost every Duran AB that was televised last year, something I haven't done since Mookie at Salem (very few televised games back then but they had "The Mookie Meter"). Mechanically, Duran starts off lower than previously so there's a bit more loft to his swing. On the other hand, he's pretty much doing what he did the first half, spraying line drives all over the field. He has a fast bat and excellent hand eye coordination which allows him to sit back on offspeed. Teams would be dumb to try to shift against him. I don't think he has Mookie's situational awareness yet. On his stolen base, he could have beaten Monoz to third. Mookie would have tried even at high A.

Unless the expansion to 75 players is imminent, this seems like curious timing for a team that needs pitching and has an abundance of players that can man first base. On the other hand, if the Sox think they are totally out of it, the experience will be good for Casas.

On the other hand, if the Sox think they are totally out of it, the experience will be good for Casas. They have 17 pitchers in Pawtucket. Even taking Groome out of the occasion, they have bodies, and if they get more they have plenty of guys in Pawtucket who can be removed.

Who's the best hitter and pitcher currently in Pawtucket? I'm talking as of right now, not counting upside?

Me likey. Can I assume Groome does not have much projection in terms of size? He is pretty huge and filled out, right?

He looked thinner at the end of last season. Will need to constantly be watching his body going forward.
That said, he doesn't need to be Sale or anything. Just needs to maintain size to handle a starter's workload well without getting too big and losing athleticism.
