Verdugo could cure a big chunk of my sadness if he overperforms expectations I think he's meeting expectations. He looks to be the player they thought they got. He's not Betts, of course, but he was doing this sort of thing last year in a park that's a bit harder to hit in. The pandemic has made things really difficult, but it may be helping him. With no live fans, he gets to establish himself without the weight of unrealistic expectations, and the right field noise that goes with that.

this is somewhat surprising; Devers will do it eventually too

this is somewhat surprising; Devers will do it eventually too The hit charts showed that he went that way a bit with the Dodgers. In Fenway that means pitchers will have to come in to him or be very careful on the outer part of the plate. He should have a lot of opportunities to get hits either way.

the Mookie sadness is real, I still feel it and i miss him terribly. However, it was his choice as much as anything and now we ride with a new stable of hopeful horses. It can be an exciting time as well.

I have no reason to believe he’d leave Boston if they showed him the money he deserves. i think there were alot of factors. when i say choice, i really just mean that he made the decision to sign the great deal that he received. in that aspect, the Sox never had a chance to respond. They did try to sing him to extensions, so there was an effort. Eh...I am not blaming him, and I would rather have him playing in our uni's forever. i guess i don't really see any reason to assess blame, now that it is over. i do respect people's opinions if they feel different than that. This was as painful a loss as i can ever remember.

Verdugo had an excellent game. I still don't think he's ever going to be a star but if he can hit .290 and have 20 homers he could be a solid piece.

Benintendi cannot be in the line-up on Saturday night. We’ve seen enough.

Coming into the year, Verdugo only had about a year and a half service time. He won't be super two. He's likely to be on the plus side of the equation for years to come. That's what we traded for.

That’s what the owners traded for. I don’t really remember the Red Sox as being in the category of teams like the Marlins or Pirates who cry poverty and sell off stars. I certainly don’t root for accounting sheets or contract statuses. And you know what? There are a lot of controllable guys. I bet you could sign Peraza to a very affordable lifetime contract.

If Mookie wanted to be in Boston, he'd be in Boston. I wouldn't have wanted Mookie for Dodger money.

If Mookie wanted to be in Boston, he'd be in Boston. I wouldn't have wanted Mookie for Dodger money. 1) That is pure speculation. What did the Sox offer? I seem to remember Lester getting traded even though he would have been glad to stay. And those of us who said let it ride and see what happens would have “lucked” into the changing financial landscape. His plans on FA obviously changed when the team he was on got serious. 2) I’d be fine with his contract. He is 27. In all likelihood, he is getting appropriate money for the first 6 years. Then at 33, even if we see some decline, the annual value also likely begins to seem like less money relative to league salaries. It’ll be over before he even reaches Pujols’s age this season. He’ll be a little older than Nolan Arenado at the end of his whopper contract. Around the same age as Machado at the end of his contract. At some point, unless the market collapses, the Sox will have to pay someone —- unless the idea is to let everyone go. Of Betts, X, and Devers, which of the three would you most want to plop huge money on?
