Can the Peraza experiment end? Chavis can only strike out twice more than he did today.

It wouldn't surprise me if we see some changes after the deadline passes. I have a feeling they're planning to change the roster up after the deadline regardless of whatever deals go down.
On the table, imo: DFA Peraza, activate Chatham. Chatham has been up on the taxi squad even after the last road trip despite the team being in Boston. I'm not sure they've kept anyone other than a catcher up in Boston before now.
If an OF is traded, Duran is definitely up, and might be anyway. They need to see if he's a guy they can assume is in the 2021 starting lineup. And I can't see them not trading at least one of Pillar or JBJ. I could see Marcus Wilson and/or Gilberto Jimenez coming in to the empty ATS spot.
If Vazquez is traded, Lucroy up, and a prospect replaces him. I don't think there's a catcher who'd come up, so a pitcher or other hitter.
Either trade relievers or cut some from the player pool and bring in some more prospects. Thad Ward seems the most obvious one to bring in for a month. Mike Kickham seems to have a certain "one of these things doesn't belong here" vibe to him.
It'll be interesting to see what they do with Pivetta, but if he goes up it's just a one-for-one with a Springs type maybe going back down, or perhaps Hart if they want to keep him stretched and are committed to Mazza and Brewer starting.
And one I don't see happening: Tanner Houck coming up. He's been given a new pitch, a splitter, in place of his changeup. Not sure Boston is the place to have him working on that.

The Chatham and Duran moves would be especially welcome. Second base and outfield are the most obvious areas (now that Dalbec is up) where we have guys who are not likely to take part in the next run. Let’s at least use the season to see what some of the advanced guys can do.

Am I the only one who doesn't quite get the rush to start the service clock on Duran, who has had approximately half a season in Double-A and didn't exactly set the world on fire there? I would have assumed he'd be more like a late 2021 call-up in a normal world (with requisite "but what do I know" disclaimer). Has he been that impressive at ye olde alternate site?

It is something I have been wondering about. It looks as if they will be holding Pivetta back to receive the fourth year of control. If the basic agreement doesn't change service times, they might be tempted to keep Jarren in AAA next year until May or so just to get the 7th year, which could be very valuable if he performs anywhere near his ceiling. All reports on him at the ATS seem to indicate he is ready for a trial now which as Chris mentioned could give him a starting job next year. We will see what the front office has decided very soon.

Jim Rice as analyst could add something like 'I never once hit a ball that well that ended as deep around Pesky Poll.' But no , nothing.

Give him a copy of Ted Williams' book, the Science of Hitting...and the mantra..."Get a good pitch to hit" Devers has special talent. Maximize it by not trying to hit every ball to the moon and hitting selectively. There is so much room for him to grow.

Devers didn't have an EV of 95+ yesterday. Today, in order:
102.8 107.3 108.4 112.8

They want to work on Pivetta's mechanics. That's legit. It wouldn't take until May to get an additional year, that only takes about 16 days. Yes Duran has easily been the most impressive player at the alt site. Tough call but I would rather wait but that also assumes nothing changes in the negotiations.

Bummer Arauz isn't in the lineup, I'm really starting to like that kid. I feel like Peraza at 2B is the least productive choice. He seems to be what he is. Now let’s see what some of the other guys might be to get a ssnse of next season. Yeah, Peraza is imo a bench piece who can slot in a few spots in the infield, and maybe the outfield in a pinch. He has almost zero plate discipline so even though he doesn't strike out that much, he's not exactly a barrel champion either.
