Well its been over a decade since we last developed a pitcher dude. And we won't know for some time if Houck is better served as a RH late inning setup man. As far as I know they still haven't developed a starter in more than a decade or so. I think Jay Groome has the best shot at ending that. I'm still convinced on Mata yet. But like Houck, look forward to him getting a chance to establish himself as a starter, too. I'll wait till groome pitches more then 50 innings in a season before I put him in the same sentence as Mata. Kid hasn't touched 50 innings since high school.

Has anyone looked at baseball references simulated stats feature? They seem way off. They have Verdugo hitting 6 HRs in 125 games.... so, what, he won’t hit another in the next 80 games? Am I misunderstanding this? (Devers is listed at 35 HRs in 147 games).
Seems kind of crazy.

Mata is promising, but there's a lot of scouting reports that say he might wind up in relief. If Groome makes it, it'll be as a starter and given his pedigree he could still be a #3 if he develops. I think Mata is more of a back-end or high leverage reliever type, but I won't say you're incorrect - because he does have great stuff and has pitched, unlike Groome. I just have a feeling if/when he's healthy and gets some innings under his belt, Groome will shoot up to the majors pretty quickly. He won't be a reliever. Mata, I just don't know. But I can definitely see the argument of "Groome can flame out and not even make the majors. Most likely at the worst case scenario Mata is a valuable reliever." I guess I just still have high hopes for a kid who could have been the first pick of the draft in 2016 and for what seems to be no fault of his own, has been derailed, but I still think that talent is in there for him to be a mainstay in the rotation, something the Sox haven't developed since Lester and Buchholz. Hopefully by 2022, Mata and Groome are both forcing their way into the rotation.

if our starter throws this many pitches , we'd be down 7 runs already.

I think Verdugo has recorded at least one hit in all but 9 of the games he’s played in this season. Love the consistency.

I hear ya I'm kind of Mata homer, when the kids on he looks like a special pitcher. If ppl think Darwinzon and houck look good, next to Mata at the same level, being younger he looked a level above them. If groome turns out better then Mata then the sox future is bright bcs i see Mata's floor as a 4 in a good rotation.

I am so sick of the tanking. The Sox better get Rocker or this is just a waste.

so Devers is making it a habit lately of scorching breaking balls that are an inch from bouncing on the ground.

what is most concerning at this point ? The MFY are starting to win again. I keep my eye on the ball, if we cant win it, the MFY sure as hell can't win it.

I know we joke about them tanking but they aren’t tanking, their pitching is just the worst of all time. There’s a difference.
it’s not like they can really be any better. They aren’t really leaving wins on the table

for as good as he's been, Devers has been horrible against high fastballs this year

They aren’t really leaving wins on the table that was kind of my point on rooting for losses, which is fine, if that is someone's deal. The high draft pick is likely to happen organically.

This team doesn’t have to TRY to lose lol They’ll just do it

This has probably been mentioned... Stock reminds me in every way possible of Matt Albers. There must be some clone factory for that brand of middle reliever.

Devers is finishing the year strong. I just want him to be more consistent next season. It'll a long way.

Rangers won nationals won dbacks are winning. This race for the second pick is more stressful than a playoff push lol

Starling Matte is the guy I want the Sox to explore a trade for this off season: good right handed hitter who plays good CF and is under control for just one year (a 11.5 millions option that will certainly be picked up by Miami)...The perfect stop gap to see what you got in Duran. PS: CF will become a Jud Fabian property in a year and a half from now anyway 😋

I guess that is what happens when you crash into a few walls overtime.
