If Lakers and Heat are your benchmark then I suppose any GM that doesn't work for a team in a city Lebron James wants to play in is a failure. Seems reasonable. Na. My benchmark is to win championships. Or be in title game. If we were playing at a clip that could put us in title Ild agree. But we aren’t. Our trend is downwards. And it’s not because of just feee agent signings or bad luck. At some point excuses are worth nothing. He’s been lodes with draft picks. Right now that’s not working. Sadly we are going backwards not forward. And with all those draft picks over the years we should be moving forward. Let’s see what this year and next hold. But if ainge can’t clean up this mess he created he needs to go just like Philadelphia moved on last summer. It’s a bummer when other fans don’t have an expectation to win championships either. ( btw lebron wasn’t on heat last year.... and they were in championship game)

But you're saying "results" and your pointing to teams whose GM was NOT the reason for the results. If you're suggesting another GM would have us in a better position, then say who and tell us why.
BC right now, you're just saying you wish things were different and leaping to the conclusion that it's Danny's fault when he is the only reason why things are as good as they are.

You need someone doing what Kemba Walker did last game to have guys moving. Absolutely great team basketball is about movement in all areas, yet you need a player consistently attacking the D and passing to get that movement. Kemba was running the pick and roll with Theis, driving then passing to basically get Green a layup and driving to kick it out for open three's. I haven't seen that Walker is a long time, heck even the announcers were like Kemba's back. Now if he can only maintain it. The beauty about that type of ball movement, is look at Tatum to end the game. When you finally want to do a little ISO they aren't ready for it and it makes things a lot easier on him. The team needed this win playing like that and damn it almost didn't happen with Beal, then Westbrook nailing three's. Yea you need both, you can drive all you want and if guys are just standing watching then you have no one to pass to. We’ve seen that a lot this year. For one quarter last night we saw both. This just reminds me of the Irving versus Rozier debate. Wasn't that your take with Irving also? It wasn't him, it was everyone else? I'd say it's a PG running our offense versus ISO offense. We should get a good idea really soon, because Walker has five games before back to back games.

I've been talking Championship level team for a few years now. It's why I said it was a flawed roster, not a crappy one, yet flawed for a true title contender. Yet you can easily fix that and if Kemba is really back it's a lot easier than it seemed a few weeks ago. If two years from now we're getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs we can talk then. Actually let the trend you're talking about happen first. Let's see what Danny does at the deadline. Danny knows there's an issue and he's working on fixing it.

They were a 5 seed that made the Championship because it was a weird playoffs with no home court. We expect Championships too but understand how hard that is in the NBA and the fact Ainge has rebuilt the team without completely sucking is borderline amazing. We have 2 cornerstone guys who are 22 and 24. This is just the start my friend.

Good. Get me Lauri Legend instead. edit: I should add that while I'm not a huge fan of the Ball family, Lonzo would fit in nicely. Doubt he's traded after how well he's playing lately.

If a guy is moving and cutting and not getting the ball then that’s on the person not giving up the ball. It takes both. Show me a guy not hitting open teammates and I’ll blame him - show me a guy standing still, I’ll blame him. It’s fairly simple. There’s multiple problems on this team. If your take is guys will start moving with a different guy having the ball in his hands like they won’t if Kemba, JT and JB do then that’s fine. My take would be thats pretty shitty of them and those guys standing and our coaches are a problem.

I was thinking about the practice thing again. I bet the team technically held a practice yesterday on their off day considering they’ve been home. However, Kemba doesn’t play in back to backs so there’s no way he’s practicing. Do we think Jaylen is practicing considering his knee and the maintenance they are doing? I even question if Tatum is really practicing considering the fatigue he’s spoken about. So yea the team is “practicing”, but it’s not the kind of practicing you’d want. Now, the counter argument is this is probably the same for every team across the league so it’s a poor excuse. The Celtics are a young team tho so I feel the affects on them would be important.

I love this quote in a recent ESPN article about Kobe Bryant’s draft workouts: Danny is not the problem, folks. This Celtics team is really talented, because Danny knows talent.

He's just like John Collins in my book. The reason a team trades a player like that is to get a much better player or because they want much more money than the team thinks there worth. You like those guys on max level deals or darn close? If you do that, money will be darn tight for years and I have serious questions about both players being the best big on a Championship team and their D. Nevermind the all in package it will take to get both guys.

www.theringer.com/nba/2021/3/2/22308624/danny-ainge-boston-celticsSomething for everyone here on Danny's record. Analytical discussion of his draft hits and misses and comparisons to others, and a little talk about FA luck and record of consistent Conference Finalists who don't make the Finals. The team today seems like in a worse position than in any of the past 5 years because the middle of the roster is so gutted from talent and high picks are all dried up. Missing on Mid-level and Bi-annual guys exacerbated the draft misses, and the bad injury luck for stars continues. I still think if Kemba is really just building back up strength and Time Lord can stay healthy and keep growing, we should be back to "ECF participant." I'm glad for that, but don't know what it takes to get to the next level. Maybe Neismith or Romeo overachieving fast, which isn't the kind of luck I want to bank on. I think the Jays can get craftier and more efficient, but to expect them to carry a sorry team to some next level seems unreasonable.

My take would be thats pretty shitty of them and those guys standing and our coaches are a problem. It's iso versus running our offense, it's why I've been saying for years I want guys to score within our offense. You practice the offense, guys know what to do it's drilled into their heads versus a guy just making things up as he goes. It's literally as simple as Rozier ran the plays in our offense all the time, versus Irving just doing whatever he wanted a bunch of times. How are the guys going to know what to do when a player does that? It's Jeff VanGundy hating on the Rockets a few years ago because it was all Chris Paul and Harden doing ISO while everyone sat around and watched. That's what an iso offense does. A guy isn't going to cut to the basket and get in the way of Harden driving. It's wasn't guys don't want to move with Irving and they did with Rozier, or Rozier had better skills, he didn't. He just ran the offense and scored within the offense. Another big key is a guy getting into the paint and passing, versus just looking to score. Walker just lived in the paint in that 4th quarter making plays and picking up 6 assists. It involved him setting guys up in the paint, while also driving and passing it back out to open shooters. The ball kept moving! I don't care if Walker isn't shooting well if he's doing those things, just like Rozier. Tatum and Brown have come a long way in creating, they don't have the experience to do that. Even the great LeBron James to this day struggles with scoring versus creating, it's why they make sure to get a PG that can create to play next to him. Did you watch any Lakers games last year when Rondo was out? Remember the 2018 playoffs LeBron would go off and they'd lose. He had enough experience and that Celtics team wasn't ready so he was able to adjust. Made a point to get everyone going, keep the ball moving over just scoring a ton of points. Tatum and Brown aren't close to ready for that, just let them be scorers and secondary creators. The real question is if Walker can stay healthy enough to keep getting into the paint or he goes back to the guy who just shoots jumpers when he doesn't feel good.

His draft record ( which is what he kept those picks and didn’t trade them away was due to.... an idea that he could add value compared to trading them) is not the best. We deserve more. Weather that’s arrogance or lack of wanting to lose a trade or what’s going on.... Danny needs to improve!!

The Ringer article has some merits, yet is also very flawed. Most young high draft picks go to crappy teams and are given the reigns, thus they get the majority of a teams win shares. The Celtics have been a very good team, thus our guys in the first four years haven't been given the reigns to the team, they have been sharing them with all-star level talent who take away a bunch of win shares.
That article makes it seem like Brown was a bad pick or one that wasn't as good in his first four years as he should have been. Yet put him on a crappy team and he'd have gotten many more win shares.
That's why Smart, KO and Sullinger seem much higher than they should be. Those were not as talented teams and they could play bigger roles and thus get better win share totals. For that chart to be legit you need to adjust it based on the talent of the team the player gets drafted too.
Go look at the 2018 playoffs versus the regular season, then compare that to the 2019 regular season. Did Tatum, Rozier and Brown become worse players? Or was it Irving and Hayward reduced their roles and thus took away a chance at win shares?
That formula is being negative because Danny had a bunch of talent when he added a bunch of those picks. Rozier stuck behind two all-star PGs versus Rondo given the reigns because they didn't have anyone else. Imagine Rondo's win shares if he played behind Thomas and Irving, instead of starting.
It's the difference of young players putting up huge numbers on crappy teams versus young players having to earn minutes on deep talented teams.
Imagine Robert Williams, Pritchard, Grant Williams, Langford, Nesmith this year if they played on the Pistons. Each one of them would get more minutes and a much better chance to put up bigger numbers. That team doesn't care about wins, just developing young players.
You want a recent example? Go look at Malik Beasley, .5 win share in 41 games on a deep Denver team, then .8 win share in 14 games on a crappy Minnesota team. Same player, same season, just different teams with a massive difference in talent levels.

Yet Stevens weakness might very well be that he doesn't know how to handle veterans that aren't team first guys. He's great at coaching up the young guys that are the same age that his College players were. When they are still moldable. At the same time show me a coach that can run an iso offense that can have great ball movement?

Romeo Langford ( a lottery pick) wasted trades of 2 first round draft picks. Are examples of poor choices with those pics. No matter what excuse you come up with the end result is those picks aren’t producing right now and the bench is a Danny ainge draft pick bench for most part. To fix that, if he’s going to keep drafting, he needs to either pick better or go elsewhere to have someone else make the picks. Without that the Celtics will never be more than an also ran

I love how we are just writing Romeo Langford off because he had the audacity to have surgery
Kids younger than Nesmith and entering his freshman year was mocked all over the top 5. Had a hand problem that he played through and his stock fell. Give him a chance

It’s really hard for me to fathom the shots that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been taking in this half. Like really bad shots. With Pritchard open on the wing. I’m not sure they want to win nearly as bad as they want to put up 30. And that’s a real problem.

Right now the Celtics are up 8 with 3 minutes to go against a depleted Clippers team and I’m not sure they’re going to win this game. Really poor effort on defense still
