Impressive they won with Tatum playing like that. Thank goodness it looks like Kemba has turned the corner a bit

I like how this game only took forever because of an egregious flop by Playoff P that somehow got called and then George with a LOOK GOOD TO ME tier monstrosity completely wide open flub from 3 to end it. Good win!

Is Kemba still dead to everyone? No he’s not dead. But he’s not a good defender, much of a playmaker, or any kind of max player. He’s a good player though. An amazing 4th option. If he’s your third, you could be in trouble.

Yeah, if you’re trying to have a nice run through the first round or two of the playoffs. I don’t understand what’s absurd with saying you could be in trouble if he’s your third option.

Robert Williams is an absolute monster, that is all As frustrating as this season has been, his development is a bright spot. I get on Stevens a lot for his in-game coaching, but I actually think he’s underrated when it comes to developing young players.

When he’s healthy, he’s an all-star level player. Very few playoff teams have someone that good as their third option. Any team can still lose early, but no team is going into the playoffs with a healthy prime age Kemba and thinking they don’t have a good enough third scoring option.

If you want to say “Kemba shouldn’t be your third best player,” then you might have an argument considering his defense. I would disagree, but at least there’s a case to be made. However, saying a perennial 20 ppg scorer can’t be your third option on offense is not a good take.

Just like that - 2 wins and you’re 4th in the conference again.
If you’re team has played like garbage to the point that fans want to punt the season and sell, but you’re still 4th in the conference and only 5 games out of first then I’d say things probably aren’t so bad and you’re getting ready to potentially make a run towards a top seed.

Yeah, if you’re trying to have a nice run through the first round or two of the playoffs. I don’t understand what’s absurd with saying you could be in trouble if he’s your third option. Third option for what? Scoring? I don’t think that’s a problem. Who’s the Lakers third option? Good point. Context matters. Perhaps I should have clarified. But notice the “could be in trouble.” The Lakers first two options make the third a little less important. Kemba would be a great third option on the Lakers, because you have an all time playmaker who would find Kemba in advantageous situations, and a big who can fit in pretty much anywhere. I think Kemba’s ok as a third option for scoring if you have really good creation somewhere in your first two options. The Celtics don’t. They have two really gifted wing scorers who get tunnel vision and are not great creators off the bounce. And I don’t understand what’s so controversial about saying “if Kemba is your third option, you could be in trouble.” The context I was speaking about are the Boston Celtics, who happen to employ Kemba Walker at an escalating, near max salary for the next three years.

You feel good with Kemba Walker once again acting like a PG. Still a little ways to go, the Clippers had better ball movement. Smart should help that. Yet it wasn't that long ago they had Kemba playing SG and Denver was abusing him. The difference when his knee feels good versus when it doesn't is huge. How long does this Walker last? Can he take a hit on his knee this time and not turn into a pumpkin like in the playoffs?
So you really need to keep transforming Teague or get a backup PG.
I was pissed last night when Steven's took out Robert Williams, yet he put him back in after a short break and that was likely the difference to end that game. The guy is a monster. At this rate of development, what's he look like in a few years?

I certainly don't buy the Jazz and Sun's are the two best teams in the League. Injuries have killed a ton of teams in the East and a bunch are very much improved. Miami and Toronto are starting to roll after slow starts. Boston is clearly better than it's record. I think the Knicks are a legit decent team, the Pacers are down two key players. Charlotte and the Hawks are decent. Heck even the Magic have been gutted by injuries, yet are getting Gordon and Anthony back soon. Heck even the Bulls are improving.

If you can’t have one guy on the court who’s below average on defense, especially one who’s at least scrappy, then that’s a major red flag on the coach as far as I’m concerned.

Steven's has a great History of hiding those guys well in the regular season, heck even a bunch in the playoffs. Yet it doesn't mean teams can't abuse those guys either like Miami in the playoffs and recently Denver seemed to game plan around attacking Walker with guards and switching bigs on him. Unfortunately that Miami tape is out there and Denver clearly watched it. Every team we play in the playoffs will watch it a 100 times and try the same things. The question is do they have the ability to move the ball like that and have the bigs to rim run to make it work. Lucky for us that's not a combo every team has. That's just the reality of having a tiny PG, even one that tries as hard as Walker does. It won't matter much if he's playing great on offense, it will if he struggles.

The obvious play, if you do make a trade, is for a "wing-y" guard, like George Hill, that can fill the Wanamaker role and come *relatively* cheap. Obviously could also take a more wing-centric approach if you think Romeo gives you nothing this year, but unsure who would be available. Maybe Barnes or Gordon, but unsure if I'm comfortable giving up what those guys will command.
Oladipo is one guy you could try for but I don't like his fit as he's another ball-dominant, ISO heavy wing, and we have too many of those already.

I still think the Celtics need two guys. A big that can shoot (if Theis recent improvements are just a hot streak) and a wing that can score so you never need to play Semi in the 4th ever again. Theoretically one of Nesmith or Romeo could be that second guy, but they're not ready yet. Not sure who we should or even could target though.

Is Larry Nance Jr. a big enough upgrade to warrant a first round pick? He adds a lot and if they'd take Thompson it could make sense. He's not a change changer though, just a very solid player.
I'd for sure gamble on Aaron Gordon if the cost wasn't crazy.
Josh Hart is another guy that impressed me.
I've always loved Josh Jackson.
Seen reports that Devonte Graham could be available for a big. Certainly not perfect, yet could be decent Kemba insurance.

It's hard to say if they would be available. Bjelica would be a nice get as a big that can shoot. Fun unrelated fact: Robert Williams has the 7th highest VORP out of players drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, after Luka, Trae, Shai, Mitchell Robinson, Mikal Bridges, and DeAndre Ayton. Absolute steal. Probably going to have to take back some of my bad draft Danny takes.

theathletic.com/2425373/?source=twitterhqShams reporting that Jerami Grant is among the top targets for the C's. Also says Boston (and Charlotte) are among the teams interested in Vucevic. I'm not sure they have enough for either player (given who they'd likely want to keep out of trade talks). Grant is an interesting case bc his signing was weird in the 1st place. Team obviously in tear down (and that could be seen this offseason). Not sure why they'd give him the money/years unless it was to buy picks and young players (ie sign him knowing you'd get offers for him). Keith Smith is reminding me that Grant DID say he wanted to play for a black coach and black executive, which factored into him signing with Detroit. Of course, it's now out of his hands. Keith also says teams don't trade their big FA signings within the year but, again, his signing was an odd fit for their obvious timeline so . . .

Shame on me for not looking this up but Grant is only 26. That shocks me for some reason.
