I'm giving this team a pass, sorry. A 19 year old close with many of them passed away during the season from hell where half are injured and the other half got COVID and are out of shape. Don't think it says shit about Brad, his character, or theirs. And I still think nobody is going to want to see us in the playoffs if Timelord is healthy. All of that is valid. It also does not explain a complete no-show in a game against a team that’s right next to you in the standings.

So you watched his HS tape that made him a top 5 recruit and thought he didn't have a standout vertical jump? You watched his dunk contest at Indiana and came away not impressed when he's throwing down 360 dunks? You watched that video claiming he had a 42" vertical going against Zion and weren't impressed with those high flying dunks? He hurt his thumb on his shooting hand early on in College, so we didn't see them. He's still trying to gain confidence in the NBA, so we haven't seen them. Yet I don't think the guy lost the ability to throw down monster dunks. Semi is an amazing athlete, he really is. You wouldn't know it watching him most games. Every now and then he does something to remind you he's a great athlete, yet not that often. He lacks skills to use it and frankly lacks confidence. He's not a alpha player, Langford has been. I'm slightly worried that we've seen almost no alpha in the NBA yet, then I remember he's hardly played. He's not being asked to just go out and develop his game, he's being asked to help a team win. Right now that's D and team ball. He has good ball skills, he's got good passing skills, he plays under control. I just see a guy that needs to adjust to the NBA game and get his confidence. Zero doubt in my mind he's going to be good going to the basket as soon as he starts attacking, looking for his offense. We've yet to see that swagger he has when he's comfortable. To reach his full potential of all star or near all star level, sure he needs to work on his shooting. I'm not actually worried, he kinda reminds me of Rozier. The shot looks good. I will say though he plays better with that swagger, rhythm, whatever you want to call it, like his shots look better off the dribble then just sitting around for open ones. My bigger worry is him staying healthy so he can develop, he's already had two major surgeries in two years. The first one got him off to a very late start last year, the second one ended his year just as he was coming on, cost him a full off-season and over half of this year. Lol he doesn’t have a standout vertical leap compared to NBA players. Look it up if you want. And he’s never been known for shooting. It is what it is. Hype him up all you want His only known vertical is 43" from his High School days, he was injured for the NBA draft combine with his thumb. What are you talking about?

I thought Brad had one of his more incisive quotes of the year in his postgame “We guarded (the #Hornets) like we were expecting to play against ourselves. Like we were going to hold it for an extra dribble."

I guess you didn't read my posts or I'm doing a horrible job of making my point. Those are scouting reports off of his college tape and I already said I agree. It's why I asked if you watched his high school tape and things like College dunk contest. It's why I brought up Semi, the difference in actual athletic ability and being able to use it in games. They aren't the same thing. The difference in his high school tape versus college when he's injured is massive. It's why he went from top five pick to late lottery. He wasn't ranked the #1 high school shooting guard because he was a below level athlete. His vertical isn't close to an issue. Guys that aren't very good athletes can't do what I've seen him do on tape. It just depends what tape you watch.

With that being said this season is a complete crap show and everyone is to blame.

And on the other end of the spectrum; if their top 8 could all stay healthy and play together for a few weeks they could surprise in the playoffs.

I don’t think injuries had as big of an effect as you’re saying, verticals get exaggerated all the time, and every McDonalds AA looks like a monster in their HS tape. But I agree that I wouldn’t say his athleticism is an issue at all. It’s just not a plus, and there’s really nothing on offense that he’s shown he’s even average at yet. He didn’t even do well in the g league in his brief stint there. I just don’t see the point of hyping him up at all. I would even go as far as to say that if they could do it all over again, they wouldn’t have picked him. He can be a lockdown defender, but he really has no offensive game at this stage and doesn’t have much projectability on that end unless he makes a miraculous leap with his shooting. A preseason top 5 pick that falls is usually an interesting flier and Langford still is, but I think the odds of him sticking in an NBA rotation are slim at the moment. Celtics fans treat him like a make-a-wish kid every time he gets a bucket, so you know he’s got a long way to go.

Celtics fans treat him like a make-a-wish kid every time he gets a bucket, so you know he’s got a long way to go. Langford averaged 16 points per 36 minutes in seven G league games, while shooting almost 55% on his 2 pointers. He had a monster first game, 27 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 5 blocks. Go watch that game tape, I don't think you've seen it. That game is a big part of why I'm high on him because we haven't seen anything like that from him yet in the NBA. I respect your opinion, I just think it's dead wrong. I'm not a crazy Celtics Homer, see my comments on Grant Williams and Nesmith. I'm certainly not a scout, yet I've done rather well backing guys like Rozier and Robert Williams in recent years. Romeo Langford is just like those two in my book. He's going to be a very good player, the question for me is how long does it take him to gain his confidence. For me his jumper coming around isn't make or break for a rotation spot, that's high end starter type stuff. I'd point out the massive gains so many players have had on the Celtics after not looking great at first. RJP made a great point, Langford was always a long-term upside guy. Not what he does his first few years, yet what he does after that. I actually love how he's bought into D first and team play. That's a teachable player doing what the coaches want. That's the way Steven's does his development, D first, then team ball, then scoring. I see nothing stoping him from being great at scoring in the paint, besides he's currently not looking to score, he's on step two, just wait for step three. I'll even go a step further saying he might push out Smart, the way Roberts pushed out Theis. We can agree to disagree, we'll see who's right in a few years.

For guards I really have a hard time betting on players who don’t shoot well personally, so that’s probably the core of my doubt. Hopefully you’ll have the bragging rights here a couple years from now.

Hopefully you’ll have the bragging rights here a couple years from now. I understand this, but remember Smart, Rozier and Brown all didn’t shoot well when they entered the league. Now all of them, if they use good shot selection, are above average shooters and in Browns case a lot better than that. Langford has a pretty solid free throw percentage and form and that’s always a decent thing to look to when seeing if a player can improve his shooting. He also has high potential as a creator and passer, plus is a good defender so his skills aren’t all dependent on his shooting. It’s interesting to kind of see their long term plan with him as a guy who runs the offense. Makes it easier to see how he, Nesmith, Brown and Tatum can all fit down the road. I’m sure it won’t work out so we see all 4 thriving together but it’s nice to think on.

Robert Williams is missing his 7th straight game - that’s no longer normal big guy gets banged up stuff on his knee.
Tatum and Walker also out so basically they may lose to OKC and can’t get their team together.

Steven's recent comments explain the Robert Williams thing. How it's all about getting guys 100% healthy versus playing for seeding. I don't think I've ever seen a guy listed day to day on the injury report miss seven straight games. Steven's recent comments it's getting better yet not 100%. That's kinda of a crazy standard in the NBA.
On one hand I get it, on the other hand a bunch of players are playing while not 100%. This is the coach that road Thomas and his bad hip as long as he could in the playoffs, destroying his career in the process. I don't know maybe that's why he's acting like this.
Yet at the same time Fournier playing with reports he's not 100%, so maybe it's just Robert Williams that has to be 100% in Steven's mind.

I heard talk today about fluid not draining out of Williams knee. You don’t miss 7 games because you are simply sore.

pretty much the way things have gone this year. I’m sure he’ll round into form eventually

Well this has been the most bipolar season I can remember in a long time. I guess the closest would be the Kyrie season.
There's definitely a curse lol, absolutely ridiculous.
Honestly, the Danny depth issues and fringe moves have been problematic for a while now, and not only problematic, but compounding issues (Kanter -> Thompson -> Theis tax issues), too many late picks not consolidating into a good player but lots of G-league ones, not knowing his timeline so blowing a top 10 pick on Kyrie, etc. Clearly these issues rear their head most when the Celtics are not healthy, which has happened more often than not unfortunately. Its a shame because generally he's been damn good at drafting. The Danny depth moves remind me of Dombrowski near the end of his tenure, he was doing the *big* things right but all the fringe moves where near the bottom of the league in front office aptitude. At least Dombrowski went all in for a championship though, Danny can't even say that - which is a pretty big indictment of being noncommittal when it mattered most.
At least we did not resign Horford lol, that would have been a death knell.

Celtics are just a horrible team led by two young players who seem to play a ton of iso basketball and very little drive to play great team defense. Yuck. I’m not sure what the answer is but it doesn’t seem to be “stay the course end be patient”. Give me brown Tatum and Pritchard and deal off any and everyone after that. ( I would say Robert Williams but he’s injured so much).

The comments after a game like last night are always amusing.
“We have no depth”... we were missing 3 starters. Three. Are you expecting 3 starter types to step in for them then 3 other strong bench guys to fill in after that?
“Fournier is a bust” - the guy looked good after a hectic start here, then got CoVID and missed a ton of time and is still recovering while learning his teammate who he can never be on the court with because NONE of them are healthy.
Listen; this year has sucked, Danny didn’t have a great offseason and there are issues, but the reality is they can’t get a rhythm when guys aren’t available all the time.

I heard talk today about fluid not draining out of Williams knee. You don’t miss 7 games because you are simply sore. You have a link? That makes zero sense and doesn't match what Steven's, Danny and the injury report has said. They talked knee fluid once, then it was knee soreness everytime after that. I've had my knees drained more times than I care to even count. If your coach wants you 100% pain free, yeah actually it could take a few weeks. Yet most teams don't set that condition, guys come back when there 95% all the time. They would give me oxycodone pill every time I had it done, just to give you an example of the pain.
