They could but trading for Darnold (and I believe picking up his 5th year) and then not supporting him with a draft pick (and actually picking his replacement) seems odd. Then again, it's possible they didn't know the board would fall this way so . . .

Horn to Carolina. Huge IF NE likes both Jones and Fields. Sit and wait. If one goes in the next couple of picks, you might need to move up (still don't know what Philly is thinking).

Unless there is a team trading up ahead of NE then either Fields or Jones or both will ne there at 15. Dallas, NY, SD will not be taking a qb

It was pretty obvious for the last 5 mins that it was Fields. After announcing the trade, they cut to Mac Jones in the greenroom, and then to an empty livingroom in the Fields household. After about 10 seconds, he and his family filed back into the room, with him putting his cell phone away. |

Bears overpaid for moving up, but I wish the Pats had pressed for 10 and kept him out of range where WFT/Chi could move up. Hate the fit for Fields.

IF Mac is NE's guy then I'd start making calls now. The only issue is someone like Washington trading up imo. Otherwise if there's a non QB they want or they want a different QB then they can sit pat or trade down themselves. But if Jones is their guy it can't cost that much to trade up to 12 or 13.

If Jones is there at 15, I'm sure NE will trade back. No intel. And not bc they don't like him. 100% to eff with us a little longer.

So many are now saying they heard that Pats were never that interested in Fields. Okay, fine.
I'll give Bedard a little credit as he had provided an explanation as to why. Granted, he may have been harping on Mike Lombardi's words a bit too much but the logic made sense.
Basically, ML said Pats don't give a guy a top half of the 1st rd grade unless they feel he could step in and be Top 10 at his position Day 1. Granted, the QB board (and need) might have lead to a different thought process but . . .
Probably a reasonable argument for Fields not fitting that description (or Jones either, for that matter though the "he's more ready than Fields" argument MIGHT exist for some).
