Benny: Player of the week. He’s had a real roller coaster season, but his numbers are ending up adequate — but not answering the central question: what would you pay to keep him?

MFY down 4-0 in the 1st to MIN, Gil finally regressing Twins starter out in the 1st with an injury… I think Luke Farrell pitched well in emergency relief for 2.1 innings. I think he's John Farrell's son? Hope the rest of the bullpen pitches well and the Twins pen can eventually get to the Yankees pen when Gil is pulled.

It's almost like Harlem Globetrotters/Washington Generals type stuff. Except the Generals probably succeeded more often. lol.

Realigning your entire infield with 18 games to go seems like a panic move.

I was surprised to see how he'd rebounded - I'd left him for dead in early August. I’ve said it before, but it is striking how close Beni is to Verdugo. Former is 2.1 bWAR, latter 2.3 in more games. Beni a tick more power, Verdugo higher average/OBP. I am not critical of trading Beni, but the Royals did better than it might have appeared. If Beni can stay healthy, he could still have a good (likely not not great) year in him next season.

Is anyone watching the 86 Mets doc series on ESPN? It's unbelievable for so many reasons.

(Admittedly I haven't seen Benintendi play... at all this season, really; maybe he's turned it around out there.)
By fWAR it's Verdugo 2.4, Beni 1.4. Offensively, Verdugo has a 111 wRC+ and .789 OPS and Benintendi is at 101/.748. Better baserunner too. It's not a huge gap but I would call it decisive.

Don’t get me wrong: I am *not* saying Beni is having as good a year. I do think it is interesting that the comparison is as close as it, given that many of us (and me included early in the season) had given up on AB.

Orioles pull ahead of the Yankees 3-2.
They gave it up in the ninth... boo.

Beni is 5 for 5. Wow. Dude is hot. Dude went from having a season that made me mildly depressed for him to having a nice bounce back in a HURRY. He isn’t quite peak Benny yet but if he hits like this for 2-3 more weeks he’ll be where he was at his best Happy for him. I think KC was a really spot for him to go.

Good news Bad news.
First the bad news.
We won't be seeing Brooks "Wild Pitch" Kriske coming out of the bullpen in the Sox/Yanks series to blow the game for the Yankees because the Yankees just let him go.
Now the good news.
He's headed to the Orioles so the Sox should be seeing him a decent amount over the remainder of the season.

Beni would be tied with JDM at 4th on the Sox for bWAR. For what it worth. Could mean: a) Beni has turned it around b) the Sox are not a star-driven team c) bWAR is a poor measure d) other e) some combination of the above

Again, it depends on whether you think he's a gold glove-caliber outfielder, literally the best LFer in the AL (per DRS/bWAR), or merely very good, like top 3 (per UZR/fWAR).
In any event, he's apparently been great in the outfield; color me impressed that his defense has rebounded that significantly.
