Beni would be tied with JDM at 4th on the Sox for bWAR. For what it worth. Could mean: a) Beni has turned it around b) the Sox are not a star-driven team c) bWAR is a poor measure d) other e) some combination of the above And he'd be 7th by fWAR. Again, it depends on whether you think he's a gold glove-caliber outfielder, literally the best LFer in the AL (per DRS/bWAR), or merely very good, like top 3 (per UZR/fWAR).
In any event, he's apparently been great in the outfield; color me impressed that his defense has rebounded that significantly.
By statcast, he has 1% probability added in LF this season. So he has basically been what he always has been, an average LF.

For all the fancy algorithms, it still seems impossible to judge defense without involving the eye test. And I have yet to lay eyes on him this whole season.

Yankees are already up 2-0 on the Orioles. They're not going to help the Sox in this series. I hope they act like roadkill at Fenway this weekend and in Baltimore in Games 157, 158, and 159. Go after that #1 draft pick Baltimore!! (Would prefer you do it AFTER today....)

Who is he even talking about? There is absolutely no argument that a catcher is having the best offensive season in history.

Who is he even talking about? There is absolutely no argument that a catcher is having the best offensive season in history. Well, that's not what was said. He's talking about Salvador Perez having the best offensive season for a catcher, but he doesn't even crack the top 30. I guess he doesn't remember Mike Piazza and/or only cares about home runs. Can't make much of an argument that a guy with 3.1 fWAR is the MVP. In fact, by wRC+, Perez is tied for having the 181st best offensive season for a catcher since 1900 and not even the best this season. That guy got his stupid clicks. What a dumb tweet.

I realize my comment was worded ambiguously, but I understood what he meant, and, as you point out, it doesn't make any sense. Perez hasn't even been the best offensive catcher this year. I guess he's just talking about home runs, but that's pretty dumb.

Might not be the best offensive season by a catcher ever but a .276/.317/.548 for a guy pacing for 50 homers and 120-130 RBI is mighty fine
We may not see a catcher pop this many again

Thank you Orioles. Now please resume your quest for the first pick of the draft. Bad loss for the Yankees.

Miguel Rojas is close to having his option vest. If it does and the Marlins want to move on because they’re the Marlins then I’d like the Sox to make a move for him to get that defense up the middle. Not a sexy name but a useful player. He’s a different player but it would be a Scutaro-esque add

Might not be easy to pry him away if they look at him as an important vet for their young core. Would love to see that kind of defender Manning shortstop though.

Worth reading the whole thread for those interested in hearing from Mark Appel. Where are they now!

Good news on the Tito front: Francona is “recovering well”"Indians manager Terry Francona stepped away from the team in July to undergo a hip replacement and left foot surgery, and president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti updated reporters (including MLB.com’s Mandy Bell) on the skipper’s progress today. Francona has now undergone both procedures, and is recovering in Cleveland with plans for him to soon return to his home in Arizona for further convalescence. Most importantly, Francona is “recovering well,” according to Antonetti, and “his mindset is in a much better place than he was a couple of months ago.”"

The Cardinals had a 1.3% chance of making the playoffs on August 8th, 2.8% as recently as September 7th. They're now at 61%.
This is maddening.

Kohei Arihara got DFA’d by Texas. Sox were rumored to be looking at him when he was posted and he got off to a good start before a shoulder aneurysm rendered him ineffective. Didn’t know that was a thing so that’s neat

Didn’t know that was a thing so that’s neat An aneurysm can happen on any blood vessel. Shoulder is obviously less dangerous than other places. Some aneurisms can't be fixed because of where they are located. Having an aneurism does not increase the odds of another one in the future.

Anthony Gose called up by Cleveland as a relief pitcher. Great story, conversion from MLB OF to MLB LHP officially completed
Edit: and he topped out at 100.8
