Nice job by Pivetta. 1 hit, 3 BB, 7 K, and a 0.144 xBA allowed. Not to mention spoiling 15 pitches from DeGrom.
And the Mets are actually a pretty good offensive team - 5th in the majors in both xBA and xwOBA.

working the count against DeGrom isn't necessarily a sound strategy. I don't mind them being aggressive early in the count in the zone.

Hats out to Pivetta. Must be tough pitching knowing you have to be perfect to have any shot. And he was as close to perfect as he could have reasonably been. Yeah the umpire was really squeezing him. Oh wait, you mean deGrom.

Argh, Xander chased ball four. Would've loved to see Devers hack against deGrom with two on base.

Not a squander, but it feels like you need to score if you are lucky enough to get a BB from this guy.

I am not 100% sold on Pivetta (as fully reliable... I’m sold as capable backender)... but man if I were in the Phillies org I’d be drinking heavily.

I’ll admit it... I didn’t think CVaz had a prayer of getting that run in. Wait...there's more...during the radio broadcast, on way home, they dropped a factoid that at 100.3 MPH that was the fastest pitch that CV has recorded a hit, in his career

They got Whitlock in so NY Post columnists could get a look.

It’s worth repeating that Garrett Whitlock is the most satisfying player acquisition in recent memory.

Another great start where DeGrom doesn't walk away with the win. It reminds me of 2000 Pedro.

I could honestly see de Grom end the season with a 1.00 ERA and a losing record. It is criminal that he pitches for a team that can’t field and can’t hit.

Get it together ump wtf. Whitlock's command is so good and he still gets squeezed a bunch.
Ok, well he got the strikeout on strike five.

With his changeup coming so often, Whitlock must look like he throws 150 mph when the fastball comes. Guys are basically swinging in response to the pop of the mitt.

I’m not a jersey collector. I’m thinking about getting a Whitlock jersey.
