If you mean -Price $16 million, then let me correct it.....Price still on the RS roster $32 million !!!!!! The newest relief pitcher for the Dodgers... Yeah he's been in relief for them, have you looked at that rotation? We have one of the best records in Baseball and none of our starters would be starting on that team without injuries. When all is said and done, the Red Sox will have paid I think about $150 million for David Price to make 98 starts with a 3.84 ERA, good for ~10.5 WAR. I feel like if you squint you ought to be able to discern some dead money in that contract one way or the other...

He was excellent in the regular season, and he was excellent in the ALCS and WS. Not saying it is worth all the money, but reducing it to 98 starts, 10.5 WAR may overlook what some of those meant. (And... I have *never* been a Price fan. I didn’t want him. But I give him credit — he played a big part in a banner).

It's dead money now but give me that contract 10 times outta 10 for that 2018 title. 3 games pitched 2 starts 1.98 era in the world series. Worth every penny of that deal for that.

I agree - I was for the Price signing at the time and I don't regret it in retrospect! But the question was about the situation that Bloom inherited from Dombrowski, and part of that was an albatross in the form of the Price contract.

I like to call it a 50M bonus for the world series and 100M for 98 starts, makes me feel a bit better about that contract.

Can't disagree with that aspect of it, the sox could certainly use that 16 mil of the price deal this year. Could have maybe added a decent outfielder and some extra money left over for another player or two with that money. Bloom is definitely handcuffed with the dead money from previous regimes.

Michael Chavis... lead off man?? Betcha never saw that coming. He looked so much more athletic than in the past stretching that hit into a double.

Hunter Renfroe: pretty good hitter againsts lefties!
ADD: Bobby Dalbec: closing the wOBA/xwOBA gap!
ADD2: Jonathan Arauz: kinda forgot about that guy!

If the guys at the bottom of the lineup can start to hit some HR's it will make a big difference, obviously.

The thing that sets the DD years apart with the blooms years so far is the world-class farm system he inherited. Not that bloom inherited a bad roster he already had a built in core that he just has to tinker with. But being able to add the best closer in the game and one of the best starters in the game makes it easy to get over the hump.

You kind of had a feeling they might break out against Manaea after losing the first two. This club can hit good pitching - they seem to have more trouble with soft tossers and deception guys

At the risk of jinxing him Richards having a nice start. Has been pitching like the guy I was hoping he could be when Bloom signed him. Not even close to an ace but a very capable starter. Still early in the year but if he keeps this up for a year there's a strong chance they take that option for next year.

Has anyone else noticed that Richards looks exactly like Rudy (the shy kid) from the movie “Meatballs”?

It was great to see them break out bigtime, but Manaea had nothing tonight. lmost every pitch was center cut. Reliever comers in and it shuts the offense down immediately.
