So Chris Sale is scheduled to return next Saturday against... Baltimore? Which means he misses the TB series and the following Yankees series? That's a little disappointing.

OPS vs LHP: Baltimore .775 (6th in MLB) Tampa Bay .684 (26th in MLB) I would've pitch him him vs the Rays if I wanted to give him a better chance to succeed but there's also medical reasons and they want to be as cautious as possible.

I think the relative weighting of health concerns vs. opponent concerns should be: 100% health, 0% opponent, even if it is disappointing that he misses the most important divisional series.
But having said that, is there a health reason for his waiting a full week to make his next start? That's not the schedule he's been on...

He's actually been getting extended recently to 7 days rest. Not sure why but if he was on 6 days instead of 7 he would have gone the last game in Tampa on the 12th and the last game in New York on the 18th. But I 100% agree that they shouldn't be planning Sale's return based on a matchup for a pennant.
July 15th - FCL, 3 IP July 20th - Portland (5 days rest) 3.2 IP, 49 pitches July 25th - Portland (5 days rest) 3.2 IP, 64 pitches July 31st - Worcester (6 days rest) 5 IP, 81 pitches August 7th - Worcester (7 days rest) 4.2 IP, 89 pitches August 14th - Boston (7 days rest) August 20th - Boston (6 days rest) August 26th - Boston (6 days rest) August 31st - Boston (5 days rest)

Sale's three immaculate innings ties Koufax's career mark, as far as we know.
Sale did it in a span of 21 starts and, counting any inning he started as 1, a total of 121 innings.
This was the 35th such inning since 2014, when they started spiking. I'll compare his rate to MLB's average tomorrow, but it's upwards of 200 x.

Great to have an ace again! I know he’s not there yet. But, he will given good health.

Chris Sale is an absolute weapon. For those that don't know, that was Sale's 3rd immaculate inning. He's tied with some guy named Sandy Kaufax for most in history.
