Gammons makes it sound like Rizzo is such a great guy maybe the Cubs might want to send him to us for a fair price just to give this nice guy another chance to win
Peter Gammons @pgammo · 41s When Jason McLeod drafted Anthony Rizzo in 2007, he said he thought Rizzo might have "the best makeup of anyone I've ever drafted." From texts received from Chicago, one senses even they would like to see him in Boston for 2+months

I would hate to pay so much out of our low minors prospects when we have a 40 man crunch coming. If we erode that we will end up in the same problem the system had a year ago. Keep Blaze and Yorke! You have said it all. Scherzer would be a great get. His presence, along with an inform Sale, certainly would increase our chances. But not at the expense of these two potential stars. How about Downs and Seabold—two of our top ten?

Rockies just released 1B Matt Adams. Career 108 OPS+ against LHP. Certainly not ideal but maybe an option if the Sox don’t trade for a 1B? Was gonna mention this earlier but I don't even think the splits are good enough to justify him, let alone everything else. Is he a good defender? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He’s had some decent DRS numbers over the years, including a +7 in 2019 that was 3rd in the majors, according to FG. Jeff Sullivan of FG also compared him favorably to Hosmer in 2017: blogs.fangraphs.com/instagraphs/one-weird-thing-about-matt-adams/B Pro has had some decent things to say about him over the years but he’s also 32 and has been injured pretty often.

It could also just be that he prefers that Bloom goes big. I hate when guys with sources post cryptic tweets. It's how he can say he was right without saying anything if he does go big and not wrong if he doesn't. He's very much the type of person that would play that type of crap too. So yes you're correct it's probably best we just ignore the tweet and focus on people actually saying something. Carrabis on a pod with Tony Mazz said the reason he was happy about Chaim is just that he was told that acquiring Scherzer is not impossible, not that it was likely.

The fact that he was released means no one was willing to offer COL anything for him.
He got 40 PA from the Rockies and didn't pan out. No ABs in AAA, except for two games when coming back from the IL. Maybe you give him some run in Worcester and see what happens?
I think we've found our floor, in terms of upgrades at 1B but I'd be willing to see what he's got if the only other options vs. RHP are Chavis or Marwin...

Of course trading for someone who is available isnt impossible. It's pretty much what JimEd said. Saying nothing while leaving the door open to claim he called it. 4 PM Friday can't come soon enough.

Astros beat reporter says Astros have traded for two Mariners relievers, one of them very good. Brian McTaggart @brianmctaggart Source: The Astros have traded IF Abraham Toro and RHP Joe Smith for RHP Kendal Graveman and RHP Rafael Montero of the Mariners. Trader Jerry doing some things! That is one of the weirdest trades I think I've ever seen, between division rivals, both in contention.
Put another way, if you had proposed this trade to me an hour ago, I would've said I'd eat my laptop if it happened.

Dero had for a trade of Nick Yorke and Blaze Jordan for Max Scherzer. Not sure how I feel about that. Who's Dero and where can I get some of that stuff?

You do that trade 10/10 times if you believe hes the missing piece. Only if you are Dave Dombrowski. The architect of the world champion team with the most wins in modern club history? That Dave Dombrowski?

Rizzo with a home run in his third straight game. What is it with these guys that are fits for the Sox going off and raising their asking prices? A month or so ago I had narrowed down a search for potential trade deadline pick-ups to three or four guys, including Kyle Schwarber. Pretty much the next day, he went on a historic home run binge, pulling the Nats back in to contention. Unfortunately, now that they have dropped out of it again, he's on the IL...

And you nailed what I was getting at: I think it is probably worth taking a flyer on Adams/anybody to see if he can muster a little more offense than what they’ve been getting out of Dalbec/Chavis/Marwin. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Franchy get a few more ABs. Either way, it can’t be a whole lot worse, right?

Joey Gallo. He’s my pick. Obviously, other teams are trying to trade for him as well. He’s only 27. I have two questions: 1. What will it take to get him?; 2. What’s his character? Really, really important. He’s a free agent after this year.

Also: Baltimore Buzzards @baltimorebuzza2 The good news is that @treymancini is already 2-4 in the game with two doubles. His trade value is going up by the hour. Trey will look good in a redsox uniform next week... #OriolesTragic

I’m sorry. I thought Bref said this year. Yes, more expensive, but an important bridge to Cassas.

It is olde English (before the game went bottom line $$ corporate.). It translates to something like this. ‘Rizzo would enjoy playing in Boston. He is such a great guy he deserves to play where he would enjoy. If he is gonna be moved, maybe Boston would be that place.’ A nice sentiment from nice people.

Really, really important. He’s a free agent after this year. Gallo hasn't played 1B since 2018, he's signed through 2022, and he's a really good outfielder. I'd expect some other team with an outfield hole is willing to pay more than we are and it's also possible the Rangers hold on to him and try again in the offseason if there's not a great offer out there.
