Years ago, on the old message board (so I can't quote the specific post) Mike Andrews outlined the entire draft signing process, which was then much more complex and drawn out because of the "Draft and Follow" process that many draftees went through back then. He had like eight different numbered points legitimately detailing the signing process after the draft. IIRC, the last point he made was something like, "8. Everybody freaks out right up until the deadline and the draftees initially predicted to sign actually sign." Maybe Fabian signs, but first we need to all freak out for another couple days and Mike will be proven right on a post he made like 13 years ago. One can hope. It is reasonable to wonder why I remember a specific message board post from that long ago. Its kina weird, really. www.tapatalk.com/groups/redsoxprospects57174/viewtopic.php?p=249071#p249071

Cubs draft signing below. Never seen this before and honestly didn't even know this was a possible arrangement: I wonder what the Cubs long term plan for his growth and improvement is then? University of Chicago doesn't play Division 1 for any sport that I'm aware of. It's also not like he's Noah Song and has an advanced profile even if he takes a couple years off from playing super competitive baseball. I guess improvement is measured in the stuff as much as it is the results, and if he's in the same city he can still be getting instruction and they can have some sort of program for him. Interested to see how this works out.

If you think he's going to need a couple years at the complex it makes some sense.

Wow, when I heard Hickey was demanding 1 million I figured the was negotiating and the Sox would meet him around 800k.
So Fabian ain’t even getting 2.5 now. They called Fabians bluff who really has no negotiating power now. Take the 2.1 million or go back to school.

If I have my math correct, the Red Sox can offer Fabian $2,100,580 without going over the cap + 5%. Alternatively, the Red Sox have $243,880 to spend on Kavadas, Ehrhard, and Guerrero (assuming Green and Hood will not sign).

Someone with more working brain cells than me should figure out (1) how much they can offer Fabian and (2) if they don’t sign Fabian, how much they can offer Kavadas.

You would think if Fabian is bluffing he might as well just sign now. No point in posturing now. I guess it doesn’t matter what we hear from his camp because we’re going to know soon one way or another.
I hope next years draft class is deep.

Yes, unless Fabian really was posturing and has self doubts/wants to start his career, we're on to 2022.
Edit: I assume this is the white flag to not signing Fabian.
You kids are too young to remember you would lose a pick if you didn't sign them, making the Trot Nixon negotiations a huge deal. With getting the pick next year, the Sox will be fine.

Its a bummer but if jud believes he can turn it around and double his bonus then its worth the gamble. But when you gamble you can lose as well. Brady Aiken comes to mind he lost millions and that was his one chance to cash in.

With getting the pick next year, the Sox will be fine. 1986 made me sad in more ways than one. Sox with the 14th pick took Greg McMurtry an outstanding baseball and football player at Brockton High School. He turned down a big bonus to play football at Michigan, then later caught passes for four years, the first three with the Patriots.

Luis Guerrero is in Fort Myers and has pitcher for the red Sox in his IG bio. Looks like he's signing.

Cubs draft signing below. Never seen this before and honestly didn't even know this was a possible arrangement: "Good aptitude." I should hope to smoke a pickle, as our neighbors' mom across the street used to say. They don't let kids with bad aptitude into U. Chicago.

Good. I had a better feeling about Hickey than Fabian anyway. Give me the kid that already carries a rake.

no biggie on Fabian- would’ve been nice to get him in the system but at the same time there is definitely a lot of risk there and it just makes next year fun
Glad they were able to get Hickey and Guerrero in the building

I was not a big Fabian fan and I've been relatively consistent about this. For all the talk about his swing mechanics, it was his pitch recognition skills that worried me most this past season. It obviously depends on how things settle during the offseason, but it's not impossible to believe the Sox end up with a comp round pick as well. It's very hard to scout HS players (so I don't really bother) but supposedly it might be another good year for HS players, and with multiple selections the Sox could make something interesting happen. If they decide to go in the same direction again though, it definitely should be a deeper year for college hitting.

I haven’t seen anything on Ehrhard, who I believe Mike projected to sign at $125k or less, so if I’m looking at the numbers correctly, the Hickey signing leaves them with $243,980 to split between Guerrero and Kavadas (in addition to the $125k each that doesn’t count towards the pool). Since they don’t have a deadline tomorrow with Kavadas, I guess they just offer him whatever’s left after Guerrero and let him think about it for a while?
