Inclined to agree except for the fact that vaccination does not preclude one from getting Covid, it does however lessen the symptoms or the likelihood of hospitalization. Me, personally, I want everyone to act responsibly and get the damn vaccine. it's 2 days, 30 minutes of your life if you get the Pfizer or Moderna. If you're a dude, the chances you even have side effects are minor compared to women (something to do with women's hormonal response to the vaccine, and I'm not saying this from a sexist place). This is yet another example of we can't have nice things because 40 percent of our population eats paint chips. But I do agree, there should be a consequence for refusing science and choosing ignorance, but that is a dangerous road to walk down in any supposedly free society. Best we can hope for right about now is natural selection. Who knows, maybe another 4-7 years of this and the commensurate IQ of surviving Americans might finally trend positively.. THE VACCINES ARE NOT FDA APPROVED!! YOU ARE A LAB RAT! Can the moderates please moderate us back to baseball The irony of making a comment like that and then complaining about the moderators not stopping those types of comments/conversations is amazing. You aren’t helping the matter at all. How about people just stop making comments about the matter, and stick to baseball? That would be nice...

Alex Speier has a piece out that confirms JDM already had Covid last year.

Seriously folks, please keep the discussion limited to the Red Sox and the Yankees. Thanks. Yes. It's pretty hard not to have a solid opinion on this subject regardless of where you stand on it. It's not a discussion that will happen casually and it's honestly not going to bring much return other than generating grudge in the community. We all share one thing in common: love for the Red Sox. Let's keep ourselves united around that.

The Yankees are cursed. Seriously.
Vaccine is ~95% effective, and they’ve now apparently had two occurrences of 3+ VACCINATED players & staff catch COVID.... what are the odds of that, higher or lower than Dalbec hitting .320 next year?
Edit: I’d like to think this is relevant to to thread as opposed to part of the dumpster fire that is the COVID debate on the first 4.5 pages

There is a way to separate these: I don’t care (for the purpose of these boards, at least) about the big picture. But baseball and the vax is not a “freedom” issue… it is a contractual. That is, we can believe whatever we want, but MLB has the prerogative to implement its own policies.
I work at a university. With only narrow exceptions, we have to be vaccinated to come back to campus in fall.
MLB *could* tell players there is a deadline. They’ve decided not to (which I’m not totally against). But there should come a time when instead of postponements there are forfeits. But that might go hand in hand with saying, look, positive tests sit out, but otherwise vaccinated players play. If you can’t field a team, you lose. If you have to play scrubs, tough.

I moved a bunch of general vaccine/COVID-related posts to a separate thread in the throwdown subforum. There have now been three separate warnings to stick to the Red Sox and the Yankees and my patience is wearing thin. Please stay on topic. Thanks.

To be fair, a number of Yankees (and other baseball players and people in society in general) received the lower-efficacy (66 to 72%, compared to ~95% for the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines), one-shot J&J vaccine, either because that was the only shot available to them or because they preferred the convenience of a one-dose vaccine. That purportedly includes all of the eight positive cases from the May outbreak ( link) and two of the three confirmed positives from today (per Cashman press conference). But yeah, it does still seem pretty unlucky.

From a managerial perspective, I wonder if some front offices had to weigh efficacy vs expediency? If teams had a choice at all? I wonder if the breakout among individual teams (Pfizer & Moderna v J&J) is balanced or if maybe some teams now have a competitive advantage built in...

I've been biting my tongue for days now and want desperately to berate the people who disagree with my opinion about vaccines but I'm going to just leave it at "Yankees suck!"

I was wondering if this wouldn't be the next sound we'd hear. Not surprising, but disappointing if any turn out positive.

I think regardless of where we lie in the vaccine debate we can all agree that the Yankees are a trashbag organization who play in a clownbox
