7/15-7/18 Red Sox @ Yankees Thread
|
Post by Soxfansince1971 on Jul 16, 2021 12:32:14 GMT -5
I don’t see much reason to speculate. Whatever. The main thing is… I hope everyone gets through this undamaged. We saw with ERod that even a “mild” case can do lasting harm. I want to beat the Yankees on the field, which means I want them on the field, healthy, full strength. They should do a study to see if an inflated BABIP is a symptom of long covid...
Is that in poor taste? That might be in poor taste. In any case, yes, I certainly hope everyone is okay. Cashman said the players were all doing fine, and the vaccine should hopefully prevent the kind of bad symptoms that Eduardo had for those who have taken it. And hopefully the unvaccinated players will get lucky.
ADD: And more good news - no new positive tests, and the teams are expecting to play today, per Jeff Passan. ....so the Red Sox get to play the Yuckies without sereral of their all-star players.....I am totally on board.

Yeah Judge is not the same hitter as when he first came on the scene when the MFY were using there cameras in the home park to focus on what the visitor’s pitchers were throwing. That’s why his splits were so off from home games and away. According to Merloni that year all 7 cameras were being used.

Time to bury the Yankees, in the race I mean of course, take 3 out of 4 and they are 10 back. Imagine the players they could sell off if put in that position. The chatter is already starting in the national media about what the MFYs could get back for Judge. My pet theory is that Cashman is floating these ideas anonymously to check the temperature of the fan base.
It wouldn't be a hard decision for me if I ran the MFYs. You can sign this oft-injured player to a massive extension that would start in 2023 when he'll be 31 or you can trade him this off-season for some young pieces who can help you build a functional roster. Unless he's willing to take a hometown discount, you move him. He hasn't played more than 112 games since 2017. Last year, he played only 28/60.

After a week of celebrating baseball's brightest stars, teams return to regular scheduling on Friday, as the second half of the season officially kicks off. The Yankees and Red Sox were supposed to mark the end of the All-Star break on Thursday, but six Yankees tested positive for COVID-19, including All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge, forcing the game between the two division rivals to be postponed. Judge's positive test complicates efforts to contain the spread of the virus since he was recently in contact with fellow All-Stars from around the league. Players who might have been impacted continue to undergo further testing. mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/FMfcgzGkZQMFTrnXjHKMbBPvdwSHLDfr

Honestly, whats the harm in postponing the game another day? Saving lives is greater than the game itself. Lol. Because elite athletes playing a game outside are just fine. This isn’t a nursing home outbreak. Send the positive cases home for a week and play some baseball! It’s also nice that Judge and Urshela will miss just about all of the 8 games we have coming.... Kind of messed up to have this take considering E-Rod missed an entire season because of a serious heart ailment due to the pandemic. COVID doesn't care if you're an elite athlete. Pretty sure some healthy people have found themselves on respirators.

It's a dilemma for them though, because where else are they going to get offense from? Stanton and LeMahieu are getting older. Luke Voit is already 30 and Urshela's about to turn 30. Torres seems like he's taken a step back. They don't really have any top hitting prospects in the high minors. They could do a dime-for-two-nickels trade like the Red Sox did with Betts, but without that elite bat their lineup becomes very pedestrian. Seems like they either extend Judge or sign some other free agent hitter(s) which would carry similar risks.

The Yankees had a great run of player development, and 2020-2021 looked to be monster years buoyed by all those cheap WAR. A shame what happened. Welp, maybe next time.

Game will be made up August 17th in a double header. This is the best case scenario all things considered in my view.
First, obviously these next two days we catch the Yanks while they’re down. Second, we got an extra day of rest before a massive 2 1/2 weeks that includes a lot of games vs TB and Toronto. Third, we probably have Sale and a new 1B for the made up game. The Yankees will have their guys back then but we will be coming off an off day August 16th and they won’t.

I think it's telling that even Covid doesn't deem Sanchez worth it's time.

I see that their teenaged Dominican super prospect Jasson Dominguez has finally started appearing in games in A-Ball. Fingers crossed that he stinks.

Making up Thursday's game by turning a 2-game series into a 3-game series with a doubleheader on August 17 is gambling a bit on getting good weather. 3 games in 2 days is tougher to bank on than 4 in 3.
If a game gets rained out, both teams have a day off before (and after) the final 3-games series in Boston. On Thursday, 9/23, the Sox could interrupt their homestand by going to NYC for a single game. Yankees would stay at home.
As it is, the Sox are off the day before and after the August series, so they won't need to go to an extra starter in the doubleheader. MFY's are off neither day and will need to do so.

For offense they could trade judge and sign a guy like seager to take over at ss for gleyber since he's probably not long for the position anyway but yea either way I'm not looking at the yankees long term prognosis and shaking in my boots by any means.

In the offseason there will be significant changes to that roster. As a person, I like Judge, but if I'm the Yankees I'm not sure I want to pay whatever he will ask for unless it's at a great discount. There are just too numerous injury concerns, the only way I could even conceive it is if they found someone to take on some of Staton's money, in a trade for minimal return, and then you're just swapping one injury prone DH for another. At what point does the ownership start to look at their PT and medical staff is my question? Judge, Hicks, Stanton, Volt all seem pretty fragile and this should have been apparent before bringing them in so there should have been a pre-emptive program in place to keep them as healthy as possible. One thing's for sure, if they fall out of contention they're going to need to rent that bullet proof pope machine to get Boone out of the Bronx.

Their roster construction is a bit puzzling when you look at it especially the lineup. They were so starved for a left handed bat that they've kept rougned odor on the team and given him ABS. Their lineup is so right handed that it's comical. I really don't understand what Cashman was thinking. It wouldn't surprise me if he was on his way out depending on how they finish the year. Then again I'm not sure it's all his fault. The baby steinbrenners don't seem to like to spend money. Certainly not even close to the big guy used to. Feels weird to say but I miss George. He kept things interesting at least. The baby steinbrenners are nowhere to be seen.
