Got it! Big to guarantee the split here, maybe we'll see vintage E-Rod tomorrow.

I was happy with a split of the doubleheader going in and a split of the 4 game series going in but I still don't feel great after today for some reason.

I was happy with a split of the doubleheader going in and a split of the 4 game series going in but I still don't feel great after today. They didn't play too well. Houck was good. Duran was electrifying. But if Devers is baf enough that he needs to go on the IL then it was an awful day.

I get that, but this was a play that the CF had to barehand to even get a chance to get the runner, and if he succeeds he gets the out. When a similar situation happens in the infield and the 3B or short goes for the barehand and misses, I think most cases that goes in the books as a hit not an error. Nope. Again, it was a bang-bang play even after he dropped it and had to go find it. Arguing that he "had to" pick it up barehanded is just completely inaccurate. Watch the video on MLB. If he fielded the ball cleanly that was at the 11-second mark. He would then need time to plant his foot and throw (he wasn't in a position to throw), or throw quickly off-balanced. If he gloved it, that would have also taken time, and would have let to a slightly wider angle. As it turns out he gets a strong throw off at 13 seconds. I mean, we're talking a second delay here so like I said, that's a tough error. Yes a second saved would have gotten the out, but that's not the point I'm making...

Duran’s speed caused the error, idc what it’s ruled but there are probably only a handful of guys who score on that in the entire league

If Devers wind up on the IL it's unlikely they would include Dalbec in a deal. They'd have to keep him to play 3b.

Duran gives me Christian Bale in American Psycho vibes. Not in the Trevor Bauer kind of way…just the overall aesthetic… the hair, face,’being absolutely ripped, etc. He should get some Phil Collins walk-up music.

Just saying, but a little speed maybe the day game is in our favor. You can’t win them all but you can at least put the team in best position possible. Too many holes in day lineup.

He booted a ball and because of it the runner was safe. It doesn't matter in the slightest what "point you're making" because the one that matters is the one where the misplay was the definition of an error. And you trying to compare what he did to an IF charging a grounder and trying to barehand it is just ludicrously disingenuous. The ball was rolling, and neither it nor Springer were moving at any kind of speed. He tried to pick it up with his bare hand because that's what anyone would do with a ball on the ground moving that slowly, whether it was a ballplayer or a 10 year old. You're basically arguing that picking a baseball off the ground is a skill that it's unfair to expect a Major League baseball player to execute.

Sounds like Raffi dodged a bullet and won't be out long. This team bounces back so well. And the Rays just lost again.

Wow - Whitlock - tied for second for WAR (Eovaldi 3, Whitlock and Barnes 1.8) - 10 holds, 4 wins, 1 save - 53K and 11 BB in 50 innings.
Quite the rule 5 find. Suck it MFY!

Short outing for a backend starter (Houck 4IP) who would struggle 4rd/4th time through, extended outing for a RP who could be a starter, and closer for the win. Could have even made a case if there was enough late inning pen depth to let Whitlock finish the game stretching him out in a more true piggyback role. Cora is really deploying the arms in a great manner this year, even when it doesn't work out. Something I have no faith previous managers (especially Farrell who I detested), would have done . Between that and this:
Eovaldi - 20 GS Richards - 20 GS Pivetta - 20 GS Perez - 20 GS Rodriguez - 19 GS Houck - 4 GS
All others - 0 GS
The rotation is definitely overachieving given the ERA of 2 of those guys is 4+ and 2 others are 5+. Im not quite as optimistic as some that Sale comes back and immediately becomes the ace, but certainly would get them a top 3 that could compete in the playoffs, and lots of options for next year.

On that angle you see that he even kind of nearly trips on his helmet/takes a bad angle around 3rd. Accounts for the "slower" numbers probably.

Houck's strikeout ability screams shutdown reliever to me for this year's squad. Preventing hitters from getting solid contact is very helpful with runners on base. He could go multiple innings as well. That is assuming a conquering Sale return and a solid deadline acquisition. Yes, Houck could be a shut down reliever, but the four best starters on the team are: Sale Eovaldi E-Rod Houck Pivetta would be in my starting five. Pérez would be kept as one of your top 6 starters for next year as there seems to always be one on the DL. Richards’ option would not be picked up (if he does not get a DFA before then). The Red Sox have done an amazing job with the rotation they have, but i would assume Bloom will make a trade now or in the offseason to up grade the quality at the back of the rotation especially if they decide Houck and Whitlock are more valuable in the pen.
