They should just DFA Richards. Close to a 0 WAR guy now and not the type of guy who would be a great reliever either. I get that he has a high salary but he’s not really helping the team anymore with a WHIP of like 1.75 or whatever it is.

If he did that and got caught, and especially if it's proven they knew, Cora could get fired. Cora does not need any controversy. If Richards can't get the job done without his sticky stuff then get rid of him.

One could make the argument that a cold calculating wins and salary maximizing robot would conclude that its in the best interests of both the Red Sox and Richards for the pitcher to make his fingers stickier, so long as his plan is kept to himself. The penalty is quite light.

The penalty is quite light. It could still cause controversy and that's the last thing Cora needs, even if he isn't involved.

If it's anyone else, I bet the manager gets ignored, but not Cora. He can't pitch without it so they should.

I'd much rather just give richards a ticket to the DFA line than to risk him getting popped for sticky stuff. If it came back to Cora at all he'd possibly be banned forever. The players all seem to like Cora and maybe play better for him. Cora for another 3-5 years as sox manager is worth more than half a season of Richards on the goop

A perfect time for Sir Richards to get a case of Moldavian stomach cramps requiring a DL stint through August, with a required rehab stint in AA and AAA. He still gets paid. He might be able to figure out his new repertoire.

If a Yankees pitcher gets caught cheating the blowback will be on the pitcher, but if it's any Red Sox pitcher, it's Cora who would have to deal with the repercussions, and that would torpedo a lot of stuff, because this team is nowhere near where it is if not for Cora. I truly believe Cora has been a difference maker this year. It's weird to buy into a "the manager is responsible for this or at fault for that" default position a lot of fans point to when the team loses (or even wins), but with Cora, I still think that 2018 team wouldn't have been anywhere near as special if not for Cora, and it's the same thing this year with them. It wasn't there in 2019, but it's here in 2021. And I think Cora has a lot to do with it.

Just like the Patriots and Caesar’s wife, they need to be above suspicion.

I know I should be rooting against Tampa but I’m really enjoying seeing them light up Cole.

I know I should be rooting against Tampa but I’m really enjoying seeing them light up Cole. Hate to say it, but I think the Yankees are close enough to Oakland that it's better off that the Rays do take a game from the Yankees. It's up to the Sox to take care of business against the Jays tonight.

Like Chris Hatfield wrote, the Houck move is to open up roster space for a new acquisition.
They have to keep him down for 15 games. But does that include the double header against Toronto on Aug 7th? Couldn't the Sox call him up to start the game as an extra man for that double header? Send him back down and bring him back up when that 15 day window expires in time for his next start?
