Feeling more confident with Barnes closing than Kimbrell - he is getting Koji-esque!

I felt we were gonna win all the way. Honestly.
It's weird what this team is doing to a cynical crank like me.

Positively Koji-esque save from Barnes. Love a nice quick drama-less ninth.

Valdez played yet another critical role. Amazing how different players step up in different games. This is FUN!

They only came back from a 25% win expectancy in this one? Geez, it's like they weren't even trying.

I can't imagine how Valdez wouldn't be one of the eight relievers on the PS roster (assuming four starters and 12 P's total). The kid just gets outs.

Ump not giving the pitcher the call on the 2-1 pitch led to a meaty fastball on 3-1 instead of his best pitch a change up on 2-2 if by not giving him the call you mean it was a ball. I agree. that helped the at bat. But it was a ball from my viewpoint, although he had called that location a strike in earlier at bats. It was a 3-1 hanging Changeup that he hit out anyways, not a fastball.

He actually looks more similar to last year except now he goes after hitters rather than trying to dance around them. Valdez looking like last year's Valdez. Must be a Juan Valdez reference in there someplace.

Devers leads in RBI’S.
this reminds me about a month ago Bradford had a stupid question would you trade Devers for Vlad JR. iI’ll keep my Devers. I know Vlad a good ball player but why make that deal.

I know Vlad a good ball player but why make that deal. I think Devers is the more valuable if for no other reason, third base vs first base. Not now but off-season I'd make that swap. Jr. is two years younger and has 2 more years control than Devers.

Great win. Was thinking we might see some 8th inning magic. Verdugo appears to be out of his funk.
Valdez pitched well again. I thought we'd see Whitlock today, so I was surprised when Valdrz went back out for the 7th and Ottavino come out for the 8th.
So quiet on the Red Sox trade front. 4 days to go. Lots of 1b candidates and given the price of starters and with Perez, Richard's, and now Pivetta struggling maybe the do move or keep Houck in the rotation and get a high leverage reliever.

Hell of a run we’re on. This team could be special The team clutch thing is real (and obviously spectacular).
It's a collective state of mind where success breeds confidence, and nothing is more valuable in high leverage situations than confidence. It's calming. The game slows down, pitch recognition improves. And that leads to success which leads to more confidence. It's a powerful positive feedback loop.
It's usually fragile. One or two games when you don't get it done and doubt sets in, in large part because logic and reason tells everyone that this can't be sustained.
Unless you have a manager like Cora who convinces everyone that it can.
I believe there is a further factor that David Ortiz had going for him from the 2004 post-season to the end of July 2006, when he had 20 potential walk-off PA and hit .786 / .850 / 2.286, and the Sox won all 14 games, with Papi getting 11 walk-off hits and being on base with a BB in the other three. And that's when opposing pitchers are aware of what you're doing, and have trepidation over your calm and confidence, which of course leads to mistakes. The Sox might have just reached that point.

At what point does Cora tell Vasquez to knock off the attempted stolen pitches? He is not fooling anyone and getting thrown out way to often. Eh, Vazquez was 8 SB to 1 CS this year prior to that failed attempt. He needs to pick his spots but it can be useful. Actually a great idea that didn't work out. Vazquez leads the team in SB. He isn't fast but it a great base runner and rarely makes a mistake on the paths. So with two out if he's on 2B he likely scores on a single because he's running hard from contact and is smart about being in motion during the windup. If a count gets to 3-2 he's running hard for home the moment the pitcher goes into the windup.

Devers is on pace for a franchise historic season. Maybe 45-50 home runs 140-150 RBI? Unbelievable.

That wrist is a problem. I feel like if it was a hamate he would have had surgery by now though so that’s hopefully a positive
Hernandez 6 Devers 5 Martinez 7 Renfroe 9 Vazquez 2 Verdugo 8 Plawecki DH Dalbec 3 Chavis 4
weird one against Robbie Ray. As righty heavy as possible. Had a feeling Duran would sit this one out. I think he gets Matz and Ryu though
