Ryu is all they have. Imagine Devers hitting at the ballfield Toronto got to hit at . I know there going home now but give me a break.

Looking at the standings, Boston has played more games than the Rays (+1 game), Yankees (+3 games), and the Blue Jay's (+5 games). Usually I'd hate this from a standings perspective, but hopefully those extra rest days down the stretch will pay dividends.

Duran now a platoon player. I dislike this greatly. I'm mostly content to let Cora figure out what sort of playing time the rookie needs, but it is hard to be enthusiastic about keeping him out of the lineup just so that Plawecki can DH...

Oh no, I just realized that I'm supposed to root for the New York Yankees tonight.

Lefties have a .572 OPS against Ray this year, I think it’s fair to let the kid sit this one out. They load the lineup up with righties against Ray, they did it last time too.
Like I said, I bet Duran is in the next two games. If he was hitting he’d probably be in the lineup tonight instead of Verdugo but he’s not so I don’t see the point in sending a guy who isn’t making a ton of contact out there against a guy who is death on lefties + misses a ton of bats
They’re easing the kid in

Oh no, I just realized that I'm supposed to root for the New York Yankees tonight. The correct way to do this is to root for "Tampa to lose." I think this is basically how Churchill dealt with having to "root" for the Soviet Union during WWII.

That wrist is a problem. I feel like if it was a hamate he would have had surgery by now though so that’s hopefully a positive Hernandez 6 Devers 5 Martinez 7 Renfroe 9 Vazquez 2 Verdugo 8 Plawecki DH Dalbec 3 Chavis 4 weird one against Robbie Ray. As righty heavy as possible. Had a feeling Duran would sit this one out. I think he gets Matz and Ryu though Whoa! Chavis AND Dalbec in the same lineup?!? Have we been so good?

Getting worried about that wrist. He can take the next 2 weeks off as long as it's just sore. Nervous they're hiding something until the deadline passes. He hurt it a while ago, though. And he has played a bunch of games since. If it were really serious, they would have put him on the DL already. Hopefully a couple days off does the trick for him.

There could be some ligament damage and maybe they thought he could play through but is starting to prove otherwise. Complete speculation, but it's possible that it's worse than they thought.

But we have to assume that he’s had x-rays, imaging and other testing done on it by now, right? If they showed anything alarming, we would know by now??

Commentating on just the fact his injury could still be worse than previously thought. I personally just think he needs a couple of days, but the deadline makes it possible that there's bigger news that we won't know until after the deadline. Hmm not necessarily. There could be some ligament damage and maybe they thought he could play through but is starting to prove otherwise. Complete speculation, but it's possible that it's worse than they thought. Definitely could be more serious than we thought. But we have to assume that he’s had x-rays, imaging and other testing done on it by now, right? If they showed anything alarming, we would know by now?? Not that I think there's a massive problem, but it's not unheard of that a secondary x-ray reveals something not seen before or a small tear growing or not healing as expected. It's possible that they didn't think he needed x-rays at the time. I never heard of him getting any, though maybe he did. Again, not trying to be an alarmist. Just the timing sucks with the deadline coming up. For the record, I think he's just getting extra rest. This seems more like good managing by Cora realizing his guy needs a break.

This isn’t quite a scheduled loss, but starting our sixth starter and resting Bogaerts and Duran makes it clear they’re not all in on tonight.
Given where the Sox are at, and the fact Robbie Ray is a lefty (so Bobby and Chavis might do OK), Im fine with it.

Richards has been getting better as he's adjusting and was great for 6 innings (or was it 5) last time out. And we're using Duran sitting as we're not all in. He hasn't exactly been on fire lately.

Keeping Duran out against a tough lefty when he is struggling a bit is what a good manager would do. Especially when there are a bunch of lefty mashers on the bench.

As a general rule, I want Duran every day, but he has been swinging and missing too much to be pushed out there without any thoughts of letting him settle down a bit. Cora has put out a right-handed batting order. It’s OK for Duran to sit out. That’s baseball. I will worry if Cora never plays him against LHPs forever.

Duran now a platoon player. I dislike this greatly. I'm fine with platooning him for now. However, when it causes that lineup, with: 1) Martinez in the field, 2) Our back-up C in the DH spot; and 3) Verdugo in CF- all of which is less than ideal, all so we can get Plawecki's bat in place of Duran's, I really don't see it.

Christopher Smith @smittyonmlb · 7m tarp being placed on the field at Fenway Park. Gotta love a good rain delay.
