In terms of next year, this guy is ready to start with the MLB club. It will be interesting to see how aggressive they are with him. I expect him to be the starting centerfielder on opening day and back up SS. Why would we rush him? Duran will probably get 1 more shot.

Please, no more Duran.

As a Duran skeptic since the days he was flirting with .400 BA in High A, let me tell you: Rafaela is a far better prospect than JD. Duran wasn’t rushed to the majors, he was just not good and yes, Rafaela needs more development and should not be in consideration for the 26 man roster until he gets at least 400 AAA plate appearances under his belt.

It will be interesting to see if he plays mostly SS or CF in winter ball.

It will be interesting to see if he plays mostly SS or CF in winter ball. CF is such a hard position to find someone while SS seems to be way easier. I can see him in RF too. Mookie 2.0. I think my dream would be Mayer at SS in 3 years. Ceddanne in RF in 2 years and Bleis in CF in 3-4 years.

I have the same hope although I'd probably have it the other way, with Ceddanne in CF and Bleis in RF, sort of the way the Sox protected Betts, the superior hitter to JBJ, by saving him some wear and tear, keeping him out of CF, while taking his advantage of his CF skills to man RF at Fenway. Perhaps a similar scenario unfolds where Bleis winds up in RF with Ceddanne in CF. Bleis is likely to be the superior offensive player, and perhaps he fills out his frame more and RF makes more sense. And yes Mayer would be the SS then as well.

It'd be cool to have a homegrown player with Ben Zobrest-esque positional flexibility. He'll be a fun player if his development works out.

I'm thinking SS or CF in the NEAR FUTURE will largely depend on Xander, especially in Puerto Rico. Don't forget, Story's arm strength is declining.

I think my dream would be Mayer at SS in 3 years. Ceddanne in RF in 2 years and Bleis in CF in 3-4 years. With X at 2B, Raffy at 3B and Casas mashing at 1B. If Yorke's bat develops, he could be a DJ LaMaieu type, picking up ABs at 1B, 2B, 3B and DH. That lineup, along with low-cost contributions from Bello, Mata, Walter, Kutter and one or two others, would leave room for a high-priced acquisition or two.

In terms of grades and description, it feels like this is actually underrating his glove. Which feels weird to say about a 60 field grade and a description of "at least plus" but yeah.

That is very very exciting to read. A defender of that level who can play different positions doesn't really have to hit very well to be a valuable player.

Sounds like he’s our best prospect.

I’d say he’s their most exciting prospect, not necessarily their best overall

I get that he doesn’t have to hit to add value, but the more he hits the more value he adds. Don’t want to see this kid rushed for his glove.

The question is can he play both positions at a GG level at the same time. He'd have to cover a lot of ground, but he'd be the ultimate Bloom-type value player because you'd need only eight guys on the field and save a salary! But seriously, the comment about him already being a GG OF reminds me of a similar comment about JBJ when he was working his way through the system. An evaluator said that as soon as JBJ got his first callup, he'd be the best CF in the AL. It's great to hear similar praise about another young stud.

I've been following SoxProspects for a few weeks, give or take. It wouldn't shock me to see 4 players with '8' ceilings. Rafaela, Bello, Meyer & Bleis.

Lol the quote in this one saying internally they have Rafaela as a top 10 defensive outfielder in all of baseball right now and that at least one evaluation on him had him as the second best defensive outfielder anywhere...

Obviously gotta let the young man progress in the minors but his floor isn't that far off from JBJ in my mind. He's something else.

It's just sort of stunning is all. Yet, pretty in keeping with what he's gone out there and done.
