Just an embarrassing effort by everyone involved. There isn’t a single good thing to come out of this first half so far. One side of the ball has been pretty darn good. The defense hasn’t been that good today - two missed field goals makes it look better than it’s been.

Just a brutal half of football and my god is this offensive line immensely horrible

Offensive line has been pretty bad. Can’t move anyone in the run game and inconsistent in pass blocking. Mac hasn’t shown any pocket presence. Hard to judge Mac right now. You could be right. But he also hasn’t had a pocket to show presence in. There have been plays where he could have stepped up or just hung tight but he instead rushed throws. But that’s admittedly asking a lot of a rookie quarterback.

Penalties have been quietly devastating as well.

Bench Jonnu immediately. One of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a tight end.

Well at least they can open it up and throw the kid into the fire now.
Smith with as bad a performance as you can have.
They have no fear of them throwing even intermediate routes (let alone deep ones) All the safeties and linebackers are pinning their ears and running downhill.

Bourne and Meyers are legitimately solid players

Way to come up small, defense.

Having the ball run down their throat this possession is demoralizing. Just missed tackles and an inability to get off blocks.

Getting Taysom Hill’d to ice the game is embarrassing.

Too many go routes, need more seam routes, deep digs and comebacks.

There have been plays where he could have stepped up or just hung tight but he instead rushed throws. But that’s admittedly asking a lot of a rookie quarterback. When you’re constantly being pressured and hit, you can’t ask the QB to be comfortable in the one pocket he gets every 4 series. It doesn’t work that way. It’s important to have good protection consistently so the QB can relax and make plays. This is the best way to ruin a young QB… get him hit constantly:

I think Mac’s the real deal.
That Saints defense looked good.
Those Patriots’ skill positions are a major flaw.
Right now the o-line is a fatal one.

After 3 drops and the bobbled pass catch attempt resulting in a pick six why did J. Smith ever see the playing field again? The old BB made his players accountable, what gives? The o-line couldn't stop a top college program right now. Numerous special team muffs. Where is the coaching? This team is not prepared. The first three games the mistakes and general malaise shown by this team is not Patriot Football! If I want to feel this way I would root for the New York Football Giants...

Not a ton of positives, I thought Mac was okay despite the final line. Didn’t have a whole lot of help
Judon Bourne Meyers Folk Jones health Dugger
That is what I have for pros

This is an excellent point, something I brought up after the first game. This team lacks discipline, and that makes me worried that Belichick’s run could be coming to a close.

With regards to Smith, what are you going to do? Bench him? For who? Asiasi hasn’t even been active. Also, if we are being fair, he had one real drop (the 3rd one), the first on the great throw by Jones was a very difficult catch, just one we really expect him to make. The pick 6, was a fairly bad throw by Jones that I’m sure he’d want back. Jonnu made it worse with the bobble, but if he doesn’t pop it up in the air and simple doesn’t catch it then it’s something we aren’t even discussing to be honest. Him getting manhandled in the run game is a real concern though. I hope Asiasi is active next week.

Can we talk about the field goal drive in the second half? You drive the team down the field, with the passing game, get to the 11 yard line with a first and 10 then run the ball twice with BOLDEN! What in the actual fuck?!?!

I'm actually really worried about this team. One thing I keep seeing is Belichick saying things aren't as bad as they look (offensive line play, lack of defensive stops are two you'll see in post-game or today's WEEI interview). I can't remember a time where where he said bad was good on a Pats team that was actually good. He's usually pressing them to turn good to great, and great to legendary in public comments, which makes me think HE isn't yet believing in this team. Not sure what the cure is. Is McDaniels really too stale? Was losing Thuney really that rippling? Do they just need more time?
Pretty obvious Jimmy G wasn't the answer at QB, so feeling better about Mac than having gone back to that well.
Rookie QBs in 2021 is looking a lot like Top MLB Prospect Debuts in 2021.

Mac has been the best rookie qb by a pretty fair margin IMO. It’s not saying a whole lot though lol
