It’s amazing how little NFL officials seem to know the rules. It almost seems like 1) the refs are not good, 2) the rules are too convoluted, or 3) a combination of 1 and 2.

Correction: the bigger problem is NFL refs. They’re complete losers.

The fact that the Pats have zero yards rushing and are still in this game is a testament to the rookie QB. Did Brady look this good in his 4th career game?

One horrendous coaching decision after another tonight, capped off by an inexplicable decision to go for a field goal.

Yeah I really don’t understand the decision to kick.
Even if you think the odds of making a 56 yarder in the rain are better than converting 4th and 3 (I don’t think they were), you’re still giving Tommy the ball back with two timeouts.
You convert the 4th down and you can bleed the clock and have a much easier look at a FG attempt.

The NFL needs to stop cheating out and make the refs full time employees who have to report to a central location and run drills every week. Right now they just go back to their other jobs.

Hopefully this is a turning point like the regular season loss to the Rams back in 01. There's no doubt they've dug a huge hole for themselves though.

I’m ok with everything except for losing my bet
Proud of the effort put in, they shot themselves in the foot with the fumble but our rookie QB outplayed the GOAT in prime time (IMO)
Totally fine with the field goal call after letting it process more. I mean the guy hit the left upright, he’s got plenty of leg. Mac made some scary throws down the stretch and I think Bill is willing to take the blame for a missed kick rather than let Mac get a bunch of BS from the media/fans for a failed 4th down. The rain was coming down hard- that impacts kicks but it also greatly impacts the passing game. Just unfortunate. Bad result, great game to watch up until that gut punch at the end.

”We don’t really do moral victories…”
Mac Jones
This is why I have faith in him, but they need to not get him killed and turn him into David Carr.

To me, while it's easy to focus on the decision to kick or not kick, the blame lies squarely on the mistakes made by the offensive line. 2nd and 1 and you can't get the snap right? That's inexcusable, we had the game won if they didn't make that mistake (convert the 1st, milk the clock). They lucked out by not getting that 2nd false start penalty right afterwards.
In hindsight I agree with the kick call, with my thoughts aligning with cdj. In the moment I didn't think Folk had a prayer at making it from 56 so I was shocked at the call and skeptical, but that was one hell of a kick that Folk made in the rain. One inch to the right and we're in the lead.

By the way JC Jackson may have quietly had the best game of his career last night. Playing as the number 1 corner, mostly keeping in check a legit number 1. Sure he had 7 catches for 75 yards, there were a couple conversions too, but it was a strong performance… at least it seemed to be.

After dogging Josh McDaniels for two weeks, good job! Just keep expanding the playbook, don't worry about Mac Jones. They couldn't run for a yard, yet that looked like the Patriots passing attack.
I know I should be upset at 1-3, yet I'm not. Yeah moral victories don't count, yet they sure do matter.
I'm officially starting the #freeStevenson campaign. They didn't seem to have much trust in Taylor to begin with and now he's likely in the doghouse. I'm glad to see them working in Harris more in the passing game, much needed. You also need another RB that can run and catch passes. Harris is like a bull, Stevenson is just a bigger bull that's kinda nimble. We can use that. We have to start getting back to smash mouth football. We just watched what Fournette did for Brady. Still kinda shocked they went with Harry over Stevenson.
Bill has to adjust the roster. You can't have Bethal as Jones main backup. One play almost changed the game.

Agreed, josh was MUCH better
Onwenu and Wynn got put on the covid list. Imagine this sentence as an endless string of profanities.

Is standing next to each other for 60 snaps considered a close contact?

Gilmore released, per everyone. This sucks. I really liked him and what he brought to the team. Sad it's ending this way and sad it puts a cap on how far the team can go this year. DBs a bit thin without him.

If he signs with a team for less than the money he would have made here, then he can suck it. Guy got a raise last year then had a major injury and wouldn’t come back and prove his health and held out for more money.
I really wanted to see him in this defense but he wasn’t great last year and is coming off a major injury and is on the wrong side of 30. We don’t know this is a big loss; it just feels like one.

Surprising but at the same time it’s not. I think they needed his cap to sign Collins
Given the secondary is looking pretty good and Van Noy/Hightower are not looking good I don’t mind the reallocation of money
