JD has really patented the weak swing on the first pitch to ensure he goes down 0-1 with a swing that couldn't possibly produce anything even if he made contact. Almost always on balls out of the zone.
Remember when Robles and Davis looked like bust and so-so pickups respectively?
We know this team has analytics tools to help pitchers succeed; heck, 'Tek's job is to communicate that to them. It stands to reason that new guys might take a little time to get comfortable with the changes in approach that very, very likely are part of their success.
And you've got a manager who will be patient with them as they make the transition.
I'd love to see outing-by-outing data on how many pitches they shook off.

No one does it like he does.
His September has been pretty mediocre - the stats are actually a bit better than what it seems watching him flail away so much.

Jeez, you’re awfully determined to say negative things about the team tonight.

This one isn't a reverse jinx effort. Getting annoyed with his ABs generally, but especially this trend of waiting until the first pitch is by him, often well outside the zone, then flailing at it to maybe produce a weak foul.
It's not anything a "professional hitter" should be doing.
