X into a DP. I was just typing that as my prediction when it happened.

Id rather play the Yanks at Yankee stadium if we make the playoffs. Bigger upside if we win and less embarassment if we lose. Not to mention that short RF porch kinda makes it more likely something weird happens like when Damon hit that pop fly grand slam in 04.

I can guess the next two abs X is gonna look at a hittable pitch 1 than roll something over Weakly Devers is gonna get a hittable pitch he’s gonna pop up harmlessly and slam his bat Close, another DP grounder for X.

Yes exactly, it actually gives players like Vazquez a chance to go deep

This game is a microcosm of why I don't like looking at overall stats of players - Xander is a perfect example - good stats, but often just dismal with risp. Devers too. This team is simply in love with home runs - Kiké's lead off HR was the worst thing that could have happened to the team tonight, in my view.
Tampa's line up has lots of batters with lousy overall stats, but they come up big when needed. I'd rather have that, to tell the truth.

That would be like watching the ancient Romans throwing the Christians to the lions. Why give the Yankees the pleasure of killing the Red Sox? Let somebody else deal with them. The Sox won't make the Wild Card Game.

Joe Castiglione - "I just don't understand how some of these marginal pitchers shut down the Red Sox line up".
Amen, Joe. Been wondering that lots this year. We've turned some dogmeat pitchers into the second coming of Cy Young this year.
More from the radio dudes "for the last month, the bottom of orders kill us because the Sox pitchers walk them and the big hitters have the table set for them"
more "hard to believe Wells shut them down - Orioles pitching staff came in with a 5.97 ERA"

Xander really coming up small lately For sure. His second half is the best evidence yet of why it would be BB malpractice to give him bigger money and years. The contract he has now would probably pay him fair value for what he'll produce between now and 2025. Offer to tack on another year or two at about the same money. If he won't go for that, trade him for young assets. I want CB to handle his duties with all the sentimentality and warmth of Michael Corleone settling all family business at end of GF1. Make the best BB decisions without regard to whose feelings get hurt.

So, Matt Barnes lives! He does seem back. Good to see (slight silver lining in a crap game so far)

If they can't beat Baltimore in Baltimore how do you like their odds in NY with their extremely hostile crowd going crazy? This team flat out can't win on the road. Hell, they couldn't even take 1 damn game from the Yankees at home. This is not a playoff team.

so, who saw this coming?
Game one - 2 runs on 3 hits Game two - 6 runs on 13 hits tonight - 2 runs on 4 hits (so far)
average 3.3 runs per game on 7 hits against a team with a 5.79 ERA.
three games at home against the Yankees - average 3 runs per game.
We hit about 5 million, six hundred thousand harmless fly balls when we are not grounding into double plays.

Make the best BB decisions without regard to whose feelings get hurt. Maybe it’s the feeling of getting older, but there’s no emotional connection to any of these players except maybe Sale. No Pedroia, Ortiz, Youkilis, Pedro, Papelbon characters. The 2011 team at least made sense with a total pitching collapse. And even with all this we still might make it…
