Good thing they didn’t draft the Punt God like a lot of us wanted them to. Wonder which teams knew what given his fall and punters taken ahead of him. Accusations are AWFUL.

I can’t wait to check them out tonight. Then they have to get to 53 on Tuesday. What a crazy couple of days. I’m glad we really didn’t need Malcom Butler. When we signed him I didn’t know if we really needed him to succeed.

Interesting/depressing thread on the new look offense by Giardi. Don't be depressed. He's a reporter not a player or coach or analyst.

Offense looked gross, gotta get that squared away
Defense I think should be pretty good

Watching last nights game was just depressing. No offense, half-way decent defense. The defense better be great this year because I don't see a lot of scoring from the offense. I'm reading it is the new scheme blocking that's not working. Well, they have 2 weeks to fix it, ie. go back to their regular system. If BB is determined to make the new blocking scheme work, it may take half a season and a lot of losses to finally settle in. I always trust BB, but this year seems different. Not the right coaches, not the right offense, not anything that looks good. On the other hand, Special Teams unit look good. Whoopee.

They are going to start 0-4, then get close to .500 then get crushed to end the year and end up with a pick just outside the top 10…

This years team looks to be taking shape. O-line concerns have to be on BB mind. let's see how Tuesday's cut down to 53 players comes out and if the pats supplement the o-line either thru a trade or waiver pickup. D looks to be in decent shape. Corners seem a bit inexperienced playing 4 games against the Bills and Dolphins receivers is concerning. Let's hope the kids can learn from the vets and this may be less of an issue. Do we have enough beef in the middle that is also an area that is to be determined. One other area is the coaching arrangement. BB is not a coach that leads one to assume that he doesn't have the coaching staff he needs but going into this season the offensive side does appear to not be on the same page as the players. Pre-season the no. 1's look way behind the other teams 1&2 defenses. All in all it's been a long summer and I can't wait for the season to begin. My hope is for a playoff game as a wild card, let's see what happens...

They absolutely would’ve traded Wynn by now if they weren’t concerned about the O-line

They absolutely would’ve traded Wynn by now if they weren’t concerned about the O-line I am not sure which fallacy this is, just that it is one (or ought be). Because TEAM did NOT do X, this MUST mean Y. Umm, no. It MIGHT mean Y, or Z, or Q, or nothing at all. btw, when healthy (he did play 16 games last year), Wynn is a more than competent player. I don't see why anyone should be in a hurry to get rid of him.

I don't see why anyone should be in a hurry to get rid of him. Sounds like he's both grumpy on 5th year option and not clearly adapting to new scheme, so that's two reasons. Cap effect is 3. 3 good reasons. I'd still keep him but I get the logic. I'm of the philosophy that OL is like your feet: you don't notice or care until something is wrong and then it messes EVERYTHING else up.

I keep flip flooping between 10-7 and 11-6, going 11-6. Tuning out the noise, looking at the talent. Remembering this time last year Mac Jones wasn't even named starter yet. As always injuries are a factor, yet also feel the depth has improved.

You answered for me, thank you Also I agree that I would keep him around, especially given the current circumstances. If they trusted Herron or Cajuste to start I think Wynn would be a goner given all those reasons you outlined, but those guys haven’t really stepped up. Cajuste seems to be up and down (to be expected given his experience level) and Herron is a backup

Being grumpy is grounds for termination now? How grumpy? And who on the outside knows to any certainty how grumpy the player is, and to what, if any, effect? And which players exactly have adapted well to the new scheme? Trade 'em all? I'd say 10M is cap-friendly for a competent starting OT. George Fant is 11M cap hit this year to bounce between LT & RT and I'd say our guy is better than him. Fun stuff to yakk about. Let's see how it plays out. I'm hopeful Wynn turns that frown upside down and commences knocking fools on their collective arses. It could go another way too. Time tells all, eh?

Agreed, on both points. Agholor, Henry, Jonnu, Bourne, Mondre -- all Year 1 in the program last year too. Swapped out N'Keal for DeVante. Added the rookie burner, at some point. Moved on from a starting OG but replaced him with a #1 pick. Replaced a journeyman (Karras) with another (Ferenz, or similar). More PT for Big Mike. OTs switched sides. Different? Sure. But talent seems comparable, or better.

You know what if this team fails this season, we are going to ask ourselves why did he have to do it this way? He could of got Obrien back or even convince a great offensive mind from college .
The Rams did that. I was reading about it.

By all accounts (including his own words) Bill O'Brien was not going to leave Alabama. He made a commitment to Saban and he was keeping it.

Some thoughts headed into final roster cutdowns:
Health - Who is injured and how much time will they miss? We know Thornton will make the final roster only to be placed on IR (with potential to return) afterwards. Did Ty Montgomery join him in that regard? Some thought he'd be out for the season after his injury Friday night but BB suggested today it might not be that bad. If there is a chance for him to play, he'll follow Thornton's path.
Vets staying close by - As we've discussed before, it's VERY likely there will be some vets who NE may be counting on this year who actually get cut before tomorrow's deadline. We've mentioned many of the candidates above but Reiss added a new one in his final roster projection. Raekwon McMillan.
Trades - Will there be any trades? Wynn was the big name but it doesn't sound like there is a lot of traction PLUS nobody has stepped up to take his spot.
Who is coming in from outside the org - Even beyond just PS adds, BB very often will grab someone outside the org (waviers/trade).
53-Man + PS manipulation - in addition to the topic of vets above, there are other roster mechanics that will play into Bill's decisions. What players can make it through waivers to the PS? You may see players who are "less deserving" make it bc, for one reason or another, they are less likely to get through waivers. Also, a better player could be released if there is a comparable player that they be able to get through. For example, Justin Herron may be more "deserving" of a roster spot than Devin Asiasi (not a ringing endorsement for either, mind you) but does DA have a better chance of making the team bc BB feels it would be harder to get him through to the PS (relatively young player still that another team may want to take a chance on at a position where there are fewer candidates). Meanwhile, the risk of losing Herron might not be as great since they already have Cajuste, as well as some PS candidates like Hambright. Summary of this point is don't be surprised if you see players make the final cut even though we've heard/seen little from them.
A roster projection is very challenging bc there is likely 60 or so players that Bill wants "in the building". It's a question of how to manipulate the roster rules and cap to make it happen.

www.patspulpit.com/2022/7/25/23276978/offensive-defensive-coordinators-nothing-new-bill-belichick-patriotsI guess I would ask why no trust? The media has been crazy on this from day one, yet for me it sure seems like it's just part of the Tom versus Bill debate. They've done it a ton, yet with Brady. Last two years hasn't Bill been rather good? Wasn't the issues more Bill the GM not Bill the coach? Look at Newton with Bill and Newton on Panthers last year. Don't all new coaches with a new offense take time? Especially with a 2nd year QB? Isn't it likely they are using camp to see what works and doesn't work? Instead of just using what does so they look good? Nevermind Bill always saves stuff for regular season he doesn't use in joint practices and preseason games. I see two narratives from reporters they suck and have all offseason. The other is things weren't great, yet they see improvement. They are working on more big plays that are always hit or miss. They are focusing on getting Smith involved. Sounds like a normal camp with a new offensive and coach. What does a coach have to do before people trust him? I guess win 6 championship doesn't do it, because that was just Brady.
