It'd be such a shame if a projected top 10 guy slipped to 41

Caught two of the three games here in College Station between Fordham and Texas A&M, with the obvious caveat that I'm not a pro scout here are a few takeaways: - The best player in this series, by a pretty good amount, was A&M's 3B Trevor Werner. In the two games I saw (Friday/Sunday) it seemed like just about everything off of his bat was a hard line drive, and he hit a home run on Saturday that I didn't even see. Pretty aggressive but for good reason, and made a few really nice plays at third (and one bad throw). Was ranked 404th on the PG 500 so definitely a guy with an existing equity of talent.
- The guy who might not have been highly thought of out of high school that I was probably most impressed with was Brett Minnich. Played two years at Blinn and then had an underwhelming year last year, but I thought he really commanded the strike zone well (I had great seats behind home plate so I got a pretty good look at this) and had a homer today, although he doesn't seem like a big power guy. Seems like the type of guy who might be able to play some pro ball for a while but doesn't really do anything well and was a corner outfield guy.
- Logan Britt was drafted by the White Sox in 2019 and it's not too difficult to see why. Playing center field he fits that "5 tool" mold in a 6'5" frame. Had a walk-off home run today on a great 8 or 9 pitch at bat, and made some good solid contact all weekend, but the swing is pretty long and there's some swing and miss element to it, though I really like him out of the 9 hole for this team.
- Not sure if he's considered a real prospect or not but Kole Kaler was an All-American at Hawaii as a slap-happy middle infield type but he had a brutal weekend and just didn't make much good contact at all.
- I admittedly don't know much about pitching and, especially since I stopped playing baseball pretty young, it's hard for me to really pick up on the movement of pitches and all that, but both starters for A&M that I saw, Nathan Dettmer and Ryan Prager, were pretty interesting. Both tall and young (6'5" true soph, 6'4" true frosh, respectively) and projectable, sat 90-92 and had a really good feel for their breaking ball. Dettmer was the Friday starter and was well ahead of Prager at this stage, to be expected, but I couldn't really tell you much about their third pitches.
No one really jumped out for Fordham outside of 80 grade name Sebastian Mexico.
I might be off of Aggie baseball for a bit mostly because I want to spend some time at other sporting events but there's a chance I see 2021 Sox draftee Josh Hood when they play Penn next week. Either way I'll be going to as many SEC games as I can for sure.

NC State true freshman Tommy White has hit five HRs during its opening weekend series against Evansvile. Super highly rated coming out of HS, also I want to see his birth certificate he looks like he's 35. Hell of a beard+flow combo.

Jacob Berry went 6/14 with 2 HRs, a double, 1 walk, and 2Ks also. LSU is loaded offensively this season, though they're probably not measuring themselves against UMaine. 51 runs in the 3 game opening set, program record for the opening weekend. Out of conference play for NCAA baseball always provides some real blowouts. Also something to track with him - played both outfield corners and third base in this series after being basically being mostly DH with some third thrown in last season. Not sure how much he DH-ed this opening set.

NC State true freshman Tommy White has hit five HRs during its opening weekend series against Evansvile. Look at how short he is compared to the umpire.

Have you instead considered the possibility of a rare disorder that only affects recruits and causes them to shrink and gain/lose pounds as necessary when they age, but just a little bit? Kidding aside, one thing that has been posited with a automated strike zone is that suddenly a bunch of players are going to shrink a couple inches, be it correction or strategy, because they need correct heights to set the zone.

Here are some FanGraphs nuggets on a bunch of college players from Week 1 including Chase DeLauter, Dylan Beavers, and Landon Sims. This could have probably also gone in the draft thread but the reports also include some NCAA players who aren't eligible for the 2022 draft (e.g., Tommy White).

They weren't lying about Sims, when I watched his start I was a little taken aback by the amount of recoil on his delivery really. Also, never really confident enough to say it myself, but when I watched Delauter, he definitely was leaking and opening himself up some. Here's his third SO from the opener: Also, not wrong on the Tommy White softball vet comp. Got a bit of that meatball gang energy.

Juco transfer, missed last season with TJ. Ended the video with a changeup at 90. Supposedly throws a slider too, but no idea how legit that is. Tennessee has some interesting pitching story lines this year I guess.

Excited to see where Chase Burns goes from here, he's touched 100 in the past though I wouldn't necessarily expect him to be hitting it as a starter. Wild that even after Blade Tidwell and Seth Halvorsen went down they've still got a bunch of people who can pump mid/upper 90s at least.

Meh, .182 BABIP. 27% K rate isn't superb but I wouldn't write his obit yet. Both hits were doubles and we know he got robbed of another one probably on that one highlight-reel grab from earlier in the thread. We'll see if he doesn't regress to the mean a bit.

Landon Sims didn't quite have as good second start for Mississippi St - 5 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts. Didn't catch this one, looks like the defense let him down a bit. Curious to see where the velo was holding.
