Big game yesterday scoring 16 runs, then come today and the Red Sox score 1. Yes, I know the White Sox ace was pitching today, but it seems too often that double digits one day is followed by a lack of scoring the next…. Singles night at the ball park….nothing but singles. No doubles, triple, or homers… The story is 1-9 RISP with 12 LOB.

No doubles, triple, or homers… I mean, the alternative is they score double-digits literally every game. Of course, at some point, they're going to have a low-scoring game, and the previous game will have been one in which they hit well. That's a lot better than what we were seeing before, which is no double-digit games.

Amended my post to all the white flaggers and pessimists from the "Mediocrity vs. Tankathon" thread. Looks like the team decided to get ahead of my projected schedule. Now, on to total division dominance! forum.soxprospects.com/post/531552

Good feeling about today. Keuchel is terrible.

I'm feeling more comfortable that this team should finish over .500. I think I picked about 84 wins and I'll stick with that.
I was looking at a chart of Red Sox teams over the past 50 years or so that started about as badly as this one did over the first 30 games or so. None of them made the playoffs, although given the new rules, some might have qualified.
I think that the Sox will continue to struggle against the iron of the AL East, but should do fine with most of the other teams. Right now the Sox are away from the AL East and thriving. Once they get back to a steady diet of NY, TB, and Toronto it will get tough again.
I'm not sure that 84 wins gets the 3rd wild card. It could. I figure that it's pretty certain that NY, TB, Houston, and some ALC team will make the playoffs. So that leaves two spots among the Blue Jays, Angels, White Sox, and Red Sox. I don't think any of the other teams will be too involved in the wild card race, although as bad as Seattle looked, perhaps they could? But likely it's musical chairs for 2 out of 4 when it comes to Bos, CWS, LAA, and Toronto. My uneducated guess is that the Sox are on the outside looking in.

Thursday should be considered getaway day league-wide all season long, with either afternoon starts, or no later than 6:00 p.m.

Is it fair to say Keuchel was not a good FA signing?

Nice to see that Wander Franco is down to a 700 OPS after having me worried that he was just going to turn into Mike Trout immediately

Is it fair to say Keuchel was not a good FA signing? Is it fair to say Story was a good FA signing? I like it better now than I did a couple of weeks ago. lol. I'd still prefer to see him continue to play alongside X, rather than "replace" X.

Seriously, the ChiSox are a talented team, scuffling, trying to get it going…. It must be so demoralizing coming to the park knowing Keuchel is going. You *know* he will put you in a hole.

This so far is really tale of two seasons (already) - the early scuffling good pitching but poor offense, leading to constant nailbiters (often ending in heartbreak losses) - and these big run games - which are actually somewhat relaxing (far less drama)! I will take the latter, thank you. I love the Pour It On version of this team!

Is it fair to say Keuchel was not a good FA signing? Is it fair to say Story was a good FA signing? Well, he's about 1/12th of the way to the WAR total he needs to justify his contract, so I'm gonna call that a TBD. But the early returns are good!

Though I've seen it countless times, and I make this exact point to others all the time, I will never not be surprised at how the whole tenor of a season can just turn on a dime - and will usually do so two or three times before all is said and done.

What about Wacha as closer when Sale gets back?

Wacha doesn't seem to have it tonight. Have a feeling this game is about to get a lot closer. This is their big chance.
