The Spurs just can't help themselves. Trade Murray and let Walker leave to tank. Then claim Roby, who the Thunder were benching because he was helping them win games and kill their draft pick chances. It's a great pickup if you want to win, kinda puzzling if you want to tank.
Too bad because Jakob Poeltl would be a very nice backup center. Type of player worth paying the tax for.
We need a legit backup center, easily the biggest need left on an all-in championship contender. No Bryant and frankly I'm not upset. We need a defensive guy. You've addressed the offensive depth issues, now time for defensive depth.

I'm intrigued by Kabengele. He looks like a man among boys in G-League. Looks like he plays good D, can pass and hit 3s. But mostly it's all dunks.

Yeah I may honestly prefer Kabengele to what’s left out there. I love that he dominated the G-league finals and he should space the floor a little better than Theis did. Could have found a diamond in the rough there, he was a 1st round talent without much of an opportunity to develop.

When all the deals are done, C's will have 12 spots filled right? Or am I miscounting?
If not, they should do Davison and Trev Williams on 2-Way deals and then fill out with minimums. Kabengele is just as good as any on one of those.

I'd be darn happy with Kabengele, Edwards and WCS. Davison and Williams as two ways. They could always do more, yet they might just wait to the trade deadline also. Stevens clearly isn't Danny and is willing to make big moves.
We got Gallinari after years, about time to get WCS no? He'd seem like a perfect defensive third big and Robert Williams insurance.

If you're referring to Kessler Edwards, he re-signed with the Nets today.

Vegas has Rob Williams early betting favorite to win DPOY. Have to think that’s more of a strategic play than them really thinking he will win it. Obviously, the ability is there but the likelihood of him playing enough to actually win it doesn’t seem too good. However, he’d be a great bet with higher odds since the ability is there.

Well there's almost nothing left in regards of good defensive wings then. You likely don't want Josh Jackson, perfect fit talent wise, not chemistry or character wise for end of bench. Maybe take a flyer on Jarrett Culver or some other young good athlete or you'll be making a trade. Also could watch the RFA market to see who has their offers pulled.

Robert Williams minutes per year 283, 388, 985 and 1804. At the minimum they are going in the right direction and he just showed some major passion/determination playing through an injury where he had fluid in his knee after every game. Just wish they didn't rush him back after surgery.

Dark horse Big candidate emerges and Windhorst saying that Aron Baynes is in Vegas working out for teams. Almost seems inevitable (if healthy)

I always liked Baynes, I'd give him Kornets spot just as a good solid veteran for leadership. As a legit backup big for a team all in? I can't do it. Going into age 36 season after missing a year because he couldn't walk for weeks. Even before that, his defensive numbers went down the last two years. You need the next age 31 Baynes. If we're talking someone like WCS and Baynes is just the final roster spot, that's fine.
It's going to be a shame if Stevens puts together this much offensive fire power and can't find a darn good backup defensive big given Robert Williams and the fact Horford is 36. Already reports Horford will be getting a ton of rest next year and might sit out all back to backs.

Gotta aim higher/more reliable than him or Kornet.

Kabengele!!! The answer is already here. I really like him as a developmental young big for the back of the bench. I expect he'll blow up at the summer league. He's also hardly played in NBA, zero playoff minutes and was waived by 3 different teams last year, after the Clippers had to send a pick to trade his salary. He's way too risky for an all in Celtics team to be the best backup big on the team. Not in Imes switch everything D. Pritchard as the 4th PG and Kabengele as the backup center doesn't sit well for me. That's a crazy unbalanced roster.

I’m confused by reports that the Celtics are unlikely to use the TPE. I thought the ownership group were going to spend. I understand they are in the tax, but they were going to be in the tax prior to the Brogdon trade. And they basically matched salary to make that trade happen.
They need a real third big on the roster. Al is old and coming off a real grind. TimeLord is TimeLord and will have injury issues for the rest of his career. I don’t understand the Kabengele stuff. He doesn’t do anything well at the NBA level. He hasn’t proven to be an NBA shooter. He has no post game to speak of. He’s a slightly above average NBA athlete. On defense, I’m not sure he can be more than average. I guess I’m ok with him being a 4th big. But if he’s your third, and Horford and TimeLord go down, you could be in real trouble. At least Trevion looks like a plus offensive player, even if he’ll give it back on the other end.

www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/nets/ny-nba-free-agency-luxury-tax-explained-nets-warriors-The deals aren't finalized and you haven't filled out the roster yet, so I don't have exact numbers. Yet roughly you were 5 million over to start, Brogdon added 10 million, Gallinari added 6.5 assuming you full out traded players with minimum guys. So you're around 20 million over. Add Myles Turner at 17 million and with taxes he'll cost around 90 to 100 million with the crazy tax rates. Using that trade exception close to its full amount is 70 to 80 million in taxes alone on one player, it gets crazy fast in the NBA. Celtics have spent 47 million in luxury taxes in their history and they might blow past that already in one year. I'm not saying to use it or don't, I can see both sides. Just giving you the numbers why they likely don't and it's the crazy tax bill. You want more than a minimum guy, you likely have to trade salary to reduce the tax bill. That was the brilliant part of the Brogdon trade, they unloaded Theis and Nesmith. Thus adding a $22 million player yet only increasing the amount over tax by around $10 million. Every player you add now is costing 4 to 5 times his salary in tax money.

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/celtics-dwindling-backup-center-options/ar-AAZgHirIt's a nice breakdown. Best most realistic option for me is Derrick Favors. 2 years ago on Jazz per 36 minutes, 12.8 points, 13 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 2.4 blocks and only 1.2 TOs. If age 31 Favors can play like age 29 Favors on a good defensive team he's a darn good fit. The problem is his 10.2 million contract. Maybe the Thunder will pay a good amount as they don't want him and likely buy him out at some point. I'd make a call to find out. He'd be the final real piece needed WCS fits in that he's the rare defensive big that can get steals and blocks. It's what I'm looking for in bigs with Imes D. Frankly can't think of a better team for his talents. Unless he's not a good teammate or something like that. Just seems like the defensive system he was born to play in. Harry Giles just to make Tatum happy makes sense, heck way more than Kornet hahaha. He's got some interesting numbers and seems to be adding a 3 point shot. Should be a camp invite no? Why didn't he play a full season in g league? I'd feel a lot better if he did. The other one that stands out is Chinanu Onuaku giving you those blocks and steals, played big minutes in Europe. Yet just a camp invite for me. Wouldn't be bad to have a few players battling it out.

Trevion Williams is going to be the guy they sign. Great passer (which is important for the bigs in this system), good low post scorer and rebounder. Not a very good defensive player, but maybe he will surprise. He’s also a Williams so he will fit into the front court. I hope they sign him to a 2 way, but once he lights up summer league it may be tough.
