Stuff like this reminds me of when Randy Choate made his major league debut against us at Fenway. One batter got hit and another one got thrown behind at least once. IIRC the 8th pitch was a strike and the Fenway faithful gave him a standing ovation.

From the Fangraphs article: Clearly, the problem in that inning was Salty's bad pitch framing.

Looks like Lackey will start throwing next week. fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2013/04/13/red-sox-notes-why-daniel-nava-is-starting-over-jackie-bradley-next-steps-for-john-lackey-franklin-morales/- On the topic of John Lackey‘s recovery from a biceps strain, Farrell said the Sox are “hopeful to put a ball back in his hand in the next couple days.” “There’s decreasing symptoms – the tightness that he’s felt in the bicep is gradually going away,” Farrell said. “So I don’t know that we have a template that we’re going to exactly follow, but certainly the way he feels is the most important guide in all this.” Lackey will have to pitch in at least one minor league rehab game, Farrell said, before he is activated so that he can come as close as possible to simulating the stress of pitching in the big leagues to make sure that he is prepared to return to the Red Sox rotation without the sort of incident that landed him on the DL in Toronto.

I hope Lester will be getting those high and tight strikes as well.

That was a pretty great diving catch by Napoli, even if he didn't need to go far to his left to snag it. Good reflexes, at least.

I hope Lester will be getting those high and tight strikes as well. It's in large part due to the exquisite pitch framing of Jose Molina. His glove action is so quiet and subtle that he gets a lot of strikes for his pitcher that would otherwise be balls.

I'm so glad to hear that Bug Selig has assembled one of his famously effective committees to study why there aren't more black players in baseball. Not like he didn't make pointless restrictions on draft bonuses that make college football/basketball more appealing to these athletes his #1 f'n priority in the last CBA negotiation. But I'm sure some more cross promotional efforts with their corporate partners at Warner Bros. Entertainment for their new movie 42 can solve this problem!
Bud Selig is too old to buy green bananas at this point, but don't worry, baseball fans will get to "enjoy" his "contributions" to America's Pastime for generations to come.

So black players from the Dominican, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, etc. aren't "black" to Bud Selig? Interesting. Someone needs to give him a brief chat about genetics (hint: native language does not equal race), as well as a history less.
I notice there are fewer white players than there were in the 50s-90s, too, and not as many Jewish and Italian players as there were in the 30s-60s. I wonder when the committees will be formed to investigate that?
This is such a tired PR move by baseball and Selig.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, Bailey looks the best I've ever seen him in a Sox uniform.

Agree completely. Really nice job by Farrell to get Hanrahan out of there before he blew it.

So will Hanrahan lose his job soon rather than later? From the looks of it, sooner. The guy likes livin' on the edge, no doubt about it.

I wonder when the committees will be formed to investigate that? This is such a tired PR move by baseball and Selig. I mean, there is a real problem here, and it's that high-level amateur baseball has evolved into a very expensive proposition, which tends to discourage participation by poor American-born players, who are disproportionally minorities ( because America is totally awesome and has no issues with race whatsoever... ahem). So baseball can solve this problem pretty easily by throwing money at it, which of course they'll never do. Same thing with the restriction of draft bonuses. So basically what Selig is doing is paying lip service to an issue while ignoring obvious solutions because they would involve the ownership class re-investing tenths of a percent of their exploding profits instead of, you know, going to the bank. In other words, business as usual in America.

Pretty soon "Nava" will be a new word for "hits" in Italian. English, too.

That is not to say that Bailey and Tazawa are not more alternatives than most teams have.
